My two kids school's don't allow a mobile phone in their classroom or even in the school premises.
Until now, I'm thinking of why this school is not allowing my kids to bring mobile phone, camera or any gadget in the school even there is a special occcasion like christmas party and this one, farewell party. Once they caught you holding these gadget they will confiscate that and return it to you on the last day of the classes of the school year. Once in a while I have some important messages to my kids but unfortunately they don't have mobile phone, what will I do? I will talk to the accounting office and have a favor to my kids.
I'm only thinking of mobile phone because it will disturb the classes once it rings especially if the volume is in the fullest.
If you're the management of the school, Will you allow a mobile or cellphone or even camera to all your students?
Second question, if the school allows all the students to bring gadgets like camera and mobile phone, being a parent, will your kids allow you to bring that gadgets?

I don't think so that student of school should not bring cell phone to the school. I think you can take some teacher phone number then when you will need to talk with your child you just can contact with the teacher and then can communicate with your kids. No i will not student to bring cell phone to the school but i can allow to bring camera in school as they can take photo of school.
And i think my kids will allow me to bring that gadgets.

Yes we should respect the decision of teachers. As it's good for the child. Because in mobile phone student can do so many things. They can play games, listen music and so on. So if the student have mobile phone then may be they will play games in the class room and this way they can't concentrate on there study.
So for the shake of students we should obey the decision. Because school is the period of learning's knowledge.
Have a good time!

Thank you very much for giving a time for answering this matter.
I talked to the guidance counselor of my kid's school and I found out that the rule is not their rule but the Philippines' Department of Education's (DepEd)memorandum.
Some schools here in the Philippines are very lax in that memorandum, okay, the teachers tell them that the school is not allowing any gadget to bring in the school but even they saw one student holding his mobile phone they will not confiscate it.
For me, I will respect the decision of DepEd's memorandum. anyway, i talked to my kids that if they encountered any problem, call up us in the house by using school's telephone.

I work at an elementary school where just about every kids from third grade to fifth grade has a cellphone in their backpacks, however, they are shutoff until the end of school and definitely during all testing such as state tests, such as the FCAT here in Florida. I have heard that some students, especially older student use these device to cheat on exams by texting friends the answers to the exam. I think this is the major reason why the schools are concerned or will not allow the electronic device on campus. However, I don't understand not allow them if there is a school function that has nothing to do with academics.

I think one has to decide for themselves if their child is old enough and responsible enough to have a cellphone. However, you do have to follow the rules of the school during school hours.

First of all, that's the memorandum coming from Philippines' Department of Education (DepEd), maybe they have some reasons why they are not allowing the kids to bring gadget or any gadget in the school. You're right, maybe they are thinking of cheating via mobile phone or sometime it is disturbing during the class and the focus of some student will affect once he heard the tone of his mobile phone.
Not only that, kids can lost that gadget and if it is lost, a lot of investigation will be done. I talked to my 2 kids that if there is any serious problem call up me in the office immediately using school's telephone or any payphone.
I respect very much the memorandum and thank you very much on your time.

No, I would definitely not allow mobile phones in school, whether I’m the school principal or as parents. I feel the mobile phone gives unnecessary freedom and communication advantage to children, who are not matured enough to handle it responsibly. Since there is no control or locking system on the mobile, kids receive and send messages to all sorts of people and they cant judge if the person on the other side is harmful or not. Also being naturally curious, kids step into traps thru many alluring messages and promises over the mobile.
The mobile has also become a kind of show-off symbol to kids, giving them a false sense of importance, maturity and achievement, which ultimately breed unhealthy competition among friends.

Yes, we have the same idea, even me I will not allow my kids to bring any gadget in the school or even I'm the school principal, no way. For me, it will lost the focus of the student once he heard the tone of the mobile phone even in silent mode.
And for your information, the reason why the school is not allowing to bring any gadget in school is because they are following the memorandum of Philippines' Department of Education (DepEd). Maybe, you got the reason of DepEd's of not allowing any gadget in the school.
Thank you so much for the time.....

If I am the management of the school, I would allow the students to have one and have the rules that never use the phone during classes, just for an emergency call, like what I did to my 8 years old daughter. I let my daughter bring her cell phone and telling her never to use that phone during their classes, and put in a silent mode so that when it rings it can never disturbed the class. I allowing her to use it when the classes done, she was trained to use it for a phone call that "mommy you can fetch me at school, classes done" and one thing more i told her never to release her phone hanging on her neck and put it inside her blouse, so she can take care of it.

First of all, I would like to say thank you very much on your comment on this matter.
I talked to the guidance counselor last week and she said that's the Department of Education's (DepEd) Rules and Regulation in all public and private schools nationwide.
There are some schools who are very lax in the DepEd's rules, they are not really serious in this matter, maybe they disagree in DepEd's memorandum.
I agree with you, use the phone during after the classes only and put in a silent mode when it is not in use.

I agree with you, to learn more and have focus in school no gadget.
The reason why the school of my 2 kids is not allowing any gadget because of the memorandum coming from Philippines' Department of Education.
I respect that decision.
Thank you so much.

i guess not allowing the students to bring gadgets in school is quiet good. gadgets can cause destructions to kids mind, they won't be able to study all they have to do is to text or play with their gadgets... calling in the office of a school is the best way to tell them your important messages...plus the school wouldn't want to be blame for lost gadgets in school.

After I entered below it was my same thought also. The schools would be held liable for the stolen gadgets and I suppose their insurance claims would grow too high or they run the risk of loosing their insurance because of too many claims.

We have the same idea, gadget in the school is not quite good. For your information, the school of my 2 kids is only following the memorandum coming from Department of Education. DepEd has the reasons behind this memorandum and we know that.
A lot of problem of school once they allow any gadget in the school.

I would say it would not be a good idea. Here in Illinois it is not allowed at all. The kids play with them and are not attentive to the class. Class time should be better spent studying and learning but the children will be texting and not paying attention.
I understand that for emergency it would be wise but the children somehow forget and the teachers find it disruptive.

Thank you so much on your time. Yes we have the same idea, I will not allow also my kids to bring any gadget in the school and even if I'm school principal I will not allow anybody.
Kids cannot concentrate on his study once he has mobile phone in his bag. And you know what, why my kid's school is not allowing any gadget in the school is because that's coming from a memorandum from Philippines' Department of Education (DepEd).
Maybe, DepEd has a lot of reason behind of not allowing any gadget in the school.
I respect that decision.

I think it is but right not to bring any gadgets at school. Children go to school because they want to learn and not to show off their gadgets to other kids. I think it is quite a distraction if they have gadgets with them, because they can actually sneak it out if they feel bored and not feeling attentive to the teacher. If you really need to contact your kids, you can always get the school's office number.

Yes, I agree with you, gadget can disturb his mind or his study if he has this in school, anyway school have telephone, parents can call that and students can use that also.
But the truth is, why the school is not allowing any gadget in their premises it's because that's a memorandum coming from Department of Education (DepEd).
Some students if you noticed are bringing their mobile phone in the school, some teachers also are very lax on the memorandum.
Thank you on your time on this matter.

oh you should find out if there's a rules and regulations in that school.and what and why they are not allowing gadgets inside the school.I can feel the worries inside you as a parent..becoz my kid's school allowed gadgets specially cellphones,it is very important communication to our kids.Becoz we don't know what will might be happen, like for example of calamities coming. the kid is whole day in school, and i was not able to be his side, becoz im taking care off his brother, through cellphone i can check him during break time, lunch time and dismissal time.during classes, the teachers will remind them to mute their cellphones and keep their gadgets.
so,atleast my worried is less,as a mother.

Thank you on your time.
The reason behind the NOT ALLOWING ANY GADGET IN THE SCHOOL is because that's a memorandum of Department of Education (DepEd), they only follow the memorandum.
You're wondering why your kid's school is allowing the cellphone to bring your kid in the school. Some school and teachers are very lax in this memorandum.
Maybe, DepEd has a lot of reasons behind this memorandum.
