I am tired of these. Why am I still suffering from these and what can I do? I am going to call my Doctor again on Monday if I am still suffering with these as this is getting crazy. They have tried quite a few different drugs and some work better than others but I still have the headache. Last night at work I got so nauseas and my head hurt so bad I left work 2 1/2 hrs. early. I was even asleep before the time I would have been off work even due to the pills.
Does anyone have anything they have tried like Heat, etc. or other remedies I have not considered trying? For me, this is getting a little old, and I am hoping something is done soon to Stop these. I have an apt with a Neurologist April 6th, but this still seems like forever away.

I hate to hear that. I used to have migraines but I don't any more. It's miserable! But I (thankfully) never had one more than 24 hours at a time! I hope it gets better. i never found any medication that realy helped them at all.

Well, the Relpax worked for mine. I am now on day 3 without a headache and actually so far today feel pretty good. It is nice knowing that the last medication they gave me actually helped as I was really beginning to wonder. Still looking forward to the appointment with my Reumetologist on April 6th and then go from there.

No body knows what this is like unless they have gone through it. I also went to a Neurologist and that was just a waste of time and money. I find Maxalt was working good but very expensive and now I take Tecnal without codine. The ones with codine are apparently better but i am alergic to Codine. I have had scans and even an MRI and MRA and like i said they examed my head and found nothing. It came down to being heritory. Both my parents used to get them and my brother also. My husband said when he used to get them he would turn the stove burner on and hang his head over the heat till he couldn't take it anymore and that would help. He's different
Hope you get better real soon this is no easy or quick fix that's for sure.

Well, we will see what the Neurologist says when I see her on April 6th. The doctor gave me relpax this last time for the migraine and it really has done wonders. I still have a little bit of pain on the sides of my head, but the migraine for the most part is gone. I know it could be because of my Mom had them when she was pregnant with me, but I should not have to suffer with them at least 10 days before they Stop. That is why I am curious to see what she suggests I should do from here, and will keep everyone informed.

I've only had one migraine that I can remember so I'm no good at suggesting home remedies.
I would, however, suggest that you get on the phone first thing Monday morning and see if that April 6th appointment can be pushed up for A.S.A.P. If they can't, you should call another neurologist. That IS too long to wait, considering how badly you're feeling. Neurologists, of all people, should understand the importance of seeing and treating some patients as soon as they can rather than waiting until "the next available date". Something like migraine headaches, especially non-stop migraine headaches, needs to be seen NOW.
I'd suggest you call today but it is Saturday and I don't think too many doctor's offices are open on weekends. But, if your neurlogist's office has Saturday hours, PLEASE call them today and let them know exactly how badly you're suffering and that nothing you've tried already has helped you to get enough relief to keep you from leaving work early or not even going in.
If that's not an option, go to the ER. Let them know that you just can't wait three more weeks to see the neurologist with this pain. They could at least do some preliminary tests on you at the ER to see if anything can be found, like with a CT scan or something.

I just came across an article about do-it-yourself acupressure for headaches. Who knows? It might help. Here's the link: http://www.care2.com/greenliving/diy-acupressure-for-headaches-fevers-neck-and-back-pain.html ~NOT a referral link!~

Well here it is Monday and I am actually feeling a lot better. The new medication they gave me last week ended up for the majority kicking the migraine to where I am feeling a lot better for sure. It is nice not having the migraine all of the time and wish I could have asked them to try this one sooner. I am taking relepax. The only drawback is my Insurance only pays for 4 at a time, but I have unlimited refills if I need them.

Any headache, migraine or no, that lasts as long as 10 days needs to be seen about as soon as possible. April 6th is not soon enough. Pain is a symptom of something wrong as I'm sure you already know. It's time to find out the cause and not just mask it all with medications. I'd be calling the neurologist and firmly requesting more than symptomatic treatment. Have you had MRI? Any dye injections with fluoroscope? Pathological/organic causation needs to be ruled out.

Well the relepax did work which was a Good thing, so for now I will leave this to discuss with the neurologist when I see her April 6th. Now I have other issues that are bugging me and finding out my Doctor is not the most knowledgeable or helpful with these either. So sometimes I wonder if seeing someone almost Fresh out of medical school can have it's disadvantages as well. Or is my Medical Insurance stopping everyone from being able to do something quicker as well?

No doubt others may have mentioned this already but can you speed the process up in seeing the Neurologist? If that was me I'd be tempted to try and get an earlier appointment.
I don't want to alarm you or anything but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Well the migraines are better at least for now, otherwise I would have been calling back and finding out if their was any way to get my Neurologist apt moved up. The relepax finally was able to kick in to where the migraine for the most part is gone. My head still hurts some but nothing like the migraine did. But there are a lot of unanswered questions I will be discussing with the Neurologist when I see her on April 6th for sure.

Like the rest of mylot members, I think you should contact your physician ASAP. Don't wait for another week. I think it would be better if you post in here what kind of medication you have tried so far.
I don't know if it works for you or not, but I drink coffee as a remedy (not cure) to migraines :) However, I cannot guarantee that this method will be effective for you too.

Well, when I posted this, this was actually about the last day I was suffering from one, and the relepax seemed to help me for sure. I now know that until I see my Neurologist and get some questions answered there is a help for me, and right now I am dealing with some other Health issues due to being Diabetic as well.

I don't want to alarm you, but have you thought about the possibility it could be a warning sign of an anerysm? I know I didn't spell that right. Anyway, headaches that won't go away can be a warning sign. Because of my extensive history of migraines my doctor has given me a list of things that can disguise themselves as migraines. I've had migraines that lasted 5 days with the pain not abating, but I've never had a migraine for 10 straight days.

Well the relepax did seem to help it, and it has now been 6 days without a headache, and dealing with some other pains and issues here instead. I will be discussing the migraines etc. with the Neurologist on April 6th and then repost back from there what she suggests or offers as suggestions, etc. from there.

I'm sorry to hear you are suffering so much! I'm Canadian, so if I have a severe migraine that lasts that long,I go and get a shot at the ER. I don't know if that's an option for you or not. I also take pills prescribed by my doctor to PREVENT migraine attacks. The best migraine is the one you don't get, right? I don't know what your triggers are, but it's best to identify them and avoid as many of them as possible. I read in one of your posts here that you're a believer. I am too.
I have found that the BEST thing for migraine is cannabis. It's a plant and it's natural. I suggest doing some research. I don't know if you can get it prescribed where you live or not. In all the years I have suffered with migraine, I have found that it works best. There's also a medicine called Nabilone or Cesamet which may be helpful. Talk to your doctor.

Well, here in Canada, people generally take their persistent/extreme migraines to the emerg...
But I guess that would cost you there in Seattle.
Hope the neurologist gets to the bottom of things.

Yes, an Emergency room visit costs me $100 just to be there not counting seeing a Doctor, etc. so that is one place I tend to avoid unless there is really no other choice. And since the Relpax did seem to relieve my headache like the day after I started this discussion, that is a Good thing for sure. Still have a lot of unanswered questions I know being able to see the neurologist and ask about will help as well.

As a migrain sufferer, I feel for you. I don't get them that often but when I do, they're always a real doozer. As far as I've been told, there's nothing anybody can do other than to ride it out. Nice, eh? Not for us it's not. I've been to the ER a couple of times and given pain medication that knocks me out and when I wake up, I'm worn out from the awful pain. Now I was told this, it could be caused by something that I'm allergic to but what that ONE thing is, is anybody's guess. Could it be the same with you? Only you would know after watching everything that you do. Maybe you could keep notes on everything you do and maybe you could pin point it from that? Wish I had more to tell you for I do know what you're talking about. Migrains are no laughing matter.

The best solution is rest.CLOSE UP YOUR BLINDS AND STAY IN THE DARK AND REST YOUR EYES.That helps me with mine. And nauseas is part of it with migraine. The last time i had one i actually threw up.
The more light gets through the more pain you get and the longer it stays.Migraine makes your senses very sensitive so you have to be aware of what you eat.Bcause even the foods we eat can trigger massive migraines.

Well if any of mine are triggered by certain foods I eat this is something that they have not tried to discuss with me. I find that most regular doctors know little about migraines and usually cannot offer many suggestions. I will be glad to see the neurologist and maybe question her about some of these things as well.

Wow Tina..that is a longtime to be hurting. I'm sorry to hear and hate that I have no real suggestions. When I visited my mother as a child, she would have to be in a dark room. She also did goodie powders They seemed to help her though.

Well... I was about ready to give up and call and insist on something more being done and then the New medication they had me try (RELEPAX) worked. It actually has helped really well to where my head is feeling even less stressed and tense now. I still do have a lot of other unanswered questions that I will be asking the neurologist when I see her April 6th for sure.

I really suggest you take one or two days off, to REST. no, do not spend your rest time mylotting, or watching TV. Okay? Screens can make migraines and headaches 20 times worse. Just get comfortable, take a walk, go outside, read a simple book, with large text. Relax. If you do this, and you still have your migraine, then Jesus, I don't know. Just go to your doctor even more. So, I hope I helped, and you're very welcome!

I did take some time away from a Computer and from a TV and rested like I needed too, and it did really help. I still have this constant glare that bothers my head, probably from when I had cataract surgery almost 2 yrs. ago so probably will have to consider scheduling an Eye Doctor apt, but besides the tender pressure points on my head still the migraine is better. The relepax was what it took for now.

Yikes hope things get better for you. They are such a pain. I had one recently and it is only since today that I've been feeling better. I've tried things but haven't had much luck. I've tried feverfew, lavender. I am thinking about tying melatonin but I think that is more to help with sleeping which probably wouldn't hurt since I'm an insomniac too.
