During an earthquake, where should we go? under ?or beside a table?

I have read conflicting tips on what to do in case an earthquake happens. Some would say go under a table. Others would say position yourself beside a table and curl up like a baby. They contend that when you go under the table, you will just get crushed whereas when you go beside a table, a "triangle of life" is formed or a safe void in the area beside the table. When buildings collapse according to them, the weight of the ceiling falling upon the objects or furniture inside crushes the objects leaving a space or void next to them (triangle of life), not under them. What do you think?

Here in NC, while we have had earthquakes they've never been that bad, just a little rattle and that was it. However, I've seen on t.v. people go under a table, I've also seen them in a doorway. Of course I am not sure if these two instances can be trusted as they were on drama television, one in a sitcom, the other a movie.
However, I would think the safest place to be would be under a table that has nothing on top of it (or something soft) and nothing hanging above it. That way the things will not crash and potentially cut you if you're under the table.
Being beside the table may also work as the way you described it it does seem as if it would create a "shelter" for you from the things around you and also from the potential of the house crashing down. Of course also the idea of being in a doorway seems safe as you would not be in one room or another and provided there aren't things hanging above the doorway, you'd be safe.

I would certainly go under a table.
If the falling ceiling is heavy enough to crush the table, imagine what it can do to you. Also, there are chances that only part of the ceiling or some kind of fixtures on the ceiling fall down. Those falling objects may not be able to crush the table, but can certainly do some harm if you are exposed.

No. I think going under a table would cause you your life more than Save you. a table made of would wont be able to hold out the weight of abuilding when it turns into rubbles. Isaw this experiment done and well its new. I mean we should be out in the open when high intensity eaethquake hits us.

I have never been in a major earthquake and hope I will never have the experience. I have experienced a few minor ones with minimal tremors with my cabinets shaking and the chair I was sitting in being vibrated. I've also read the various pieces of advice on what to do during the quake. I don't know as I'd have the presence of mind to do anything other than try to get to the outside. But I think the 'triangle of life' makes more sense than crawling under something heavy that is more likely to crush you than not. The area doesn't have to be next to a table but can also be next to a sofa, bed or other piece of well-anchored furniture. I think I'd choose to get behind my big Lazy-Boy. Standing in the arch of a doorway is still recommended I think. I noticed that during the Japan quake in the grocery store that was shown, the store employees braced themselves against the tall shelving and stayed there even after the tremor had subsided. They had obviously drilled.
