When i was a kid, i tried grilled eggplant for the first time. When i ate a piece of it, i literally threw up so bad. I can still remember the unpleasant feeling it gave me. So, Whenever i see any eggplant dish in front of me i get disgusted. I normally eat all the vegetables but with eggplant i tend to have a hate relationship. My partner feels like eating eggplant once in a while, so i prepare eggplant salad for him. But i never even take a single bite of it.
Is there any veggie that you dislike? Have you ever had bad experiences with vegetables?

I was dragged down here in your discussion because of the title you have. It's surprising that you don't like eggplant because I personally love to eat such a vegetable what ever cooking style or recipe it is being cooked or prepared.
Anyway, we all have our own choices and preferences. It's just quite funny of a scene that you prepare the salad but you don't taste it. LOL. But I guess you're good at estimation because you're husband keep liking to eat the salad you prepared. :)
Great post! Welcome to Mylot.

I know that it is weird not to taste the food you cook but with eggplant its different for me. My partner always forces me to try the salad but i always keep my mouth closed.

Yes, it's weird. LOL. I understand your partner why he kept prodding you to eat eggplant. :) anyway, just tell him always, that you don't really think you could bear the taste of it. :)

Oh, can we make eggplant a salad? I wonder what would be its taste. It is only now that I've heard people are making salad out of eggplant.

Hi Djungblut and welcome to myLot!
That is what everyone says about the eggplant, I have cooked it many times and everyone says they love how I cook it but something about the mushy part of it I cannot seem to like it. But you are that it cannot be cooked by everyone because it definitely needs the extra spices.

It is quiet delicious specially when you fry it with egg. Try to put different spices on it and sure you'll love it.We have different tastes about different foods maybe we just have to try something new.

I used to HATE eggplant just like you until I found a great way to cook it to make it worth eating. Fry it. Yup, if you put it in some corn meal batter and then fry it, it's great!
After frying it if you want it to be even better make it into a dish called eggplant parmigiana!
It's really amazing and let me tell you it tastes great! Completely changed my mind about eggplant.

We have recently tried them as a pasta substitute but, that is for the birds.
I don't like it's texture nor it's taste, I am sure there are plenty of people out there who eat them so I will abstain and leave more for them.

Here in England we call it an aubergine.
I'm not a huge fan of it, but since it is in our interests to eat a wide variety of vegetables, I do occasionally include it within a vegetable curry. Most things go well in a curry, since you can throw in all sorts of veg and their own flavours can be pleasantly disguised by all of the spices which you use in cooking.
However, it is difficult to get round the consistency of the aubergine - I find it best to chop it fairly small, and it becomes more a part of the curry sauce than anything else.

Hi sweetme,
When i was kid i hated eggplant ( brinjal as we were tought ). My mother , father and sister would love the mashed eggplant but i hated it. Over the years now that i live away from home i have started to eat them but i still dont relish them. Another vegetable i dont like is bitter gourd . Though again mom and sister like it very much but it is too bitter for my taste.

When I was littdnĀ“t like. One of them was cauliflower. I would see it and thought: YUCK!!! It was just a thought though because we were not supposed to say bad things about the food. Now I love it. I eat it raw, marinated, in quiches and side dishes, you name it. I think that taste buds change with age. I would advise you to try them again, just a tiny bit to learn how to eat it. You have to eat a bit at least 10 times to teach your buds.
Happy posting!

Eggplant is actually my favorite.
Maybe is just the different way people cook it.

Crown Daisy, I think.
The most disgusting thing I ever tried.
But all my family are loving it!
Sprouts are terrible too, at least when I was, like 5
But it's seem to be okay for me now.
I think it's a common hated veggie by children. Because it always appears in TV Drama, like Desperate Housewives.

Eggplant is ok but it is not my favorite. I like eggplant salad though, with onions, tomatoes, vinegar and a bit of salt
I eat vegetables but I particularly do not like those slimy ones like Okra. I really cannot take it in. I know it is very nutritious and I honestly tried so hard to like it, but I just can't.
Have a nice day! Welcome to Mylot!

I love vegetables and love any kind of veggies.
I don't have any particular veggie that i dislike.
I like eggplant,i cook it grilled dip in black sauce and lemon with some black pepper.
I cooked it omelet,or friend and topped with fresh tomato and cucumber, with black sauce or oyster sauce.
The only food that i wouldn't dare to taste are those exotic street foods in Thailand.
Like scorpion, roaches, worms and a lot more.

I think egg plant has this strange property. I also didn't like eggplant during my childhood days as i hated it so badly, that if i see any eggplant in the house i will throw it away without the knowledge of anyone. But i started liking it for the past few years and i have no idea why i have this sudden change.

I cannot eat eggplant either. I can cook it really well and everyone says it is delicious but something about it that I cannot stand the taste. I have tried and cannot eat it. Same for tomatoes they feel to acidic to me as I chew on them.

Eggplant is good for your health and can be very tasty when prepared with soya sauce - Chinese style or used for Tempura - Japanese style. However, I totally agree with you that grilling would produced the most undesirable result. It is just not a good way to cook eggplant. You know, some ways of cooking is not good for certain kind of food.
For me, the top no no veggie is Radish. I don't like the color, the texture and the taste of it. I would never even consider eating a small bite.
There are so many kinds of vegetables in this world to choose from. I don't have to force myself to eat something that I don't like.
