i remember my late Grandfather that whenever he wants to eat chicken, to be butchered at their backyard, he always used to say, Urcicimo give me one chicken, the one who's about to lay egg.. and so, i run at their kitchen and grab some rice or corn grains by my fingers and palms.. call the chickens by saying a prolonged kkkkkkkoooooooorrrrrrrrr and try to catch one whether how hard or easy it was!!

This sure is a funny topic!
I can remember my two brothers who really are good at catching chickens.
Why not? They use to attend a derby! So they really know how to catch one.
To answer your question, unfortunately I cannot catch a chicken.
Thinking of it just makes me so tired running after it.
And when they fly, I really back off.
So I'm leaving it to the men to do the chasing.
And leave it all to me to do the eating!

Wow! Your sister sure has a way in getting that chicken!
So if my brothers are not around to catch those chicken, then there is no chicken to eat on the table. Goodness! I never caught a chicken in my life, I wouldn't want to start now! Have you observed that even if you cut the chicken's throat, sometimes they get away and still run? I really find it amazing when they can still run with their slit throats.

Thank you for a very detailed description of how to kill a chicken.
I'm sure a lot of Mylotters learned a valuable lesson here.
I've observed that they don't tie the chicken when they slit the chicken throats. There is just someone who holds the wings and the feet when they do that.
Anyway, I wouldn't want to have blood on my hands for killing a chicken.
I don't want to be bothered by my conscience!

Hello zill and welcome to myLot. Your question does bring back memories of when I lived with my grandparents. My grandmother always raised chickens and we had to butcher them for the freezer. We would catch the chickens with a long wire hook. Some times it took several tries to get the right chicken. My grandfather would then take off the heads and my grandmother and I would pluck and degut and clean them for the freezer. Grandma raised about 100 every year. I did the same thing when I was older and lived in the country. It was so nice to have something to eat that we raised our selves. Those chickens tasted so much better than any thing we buy today.

my grannies used to raise lots of native chickens when they are still alive. that's the means of their living. farming and raising poultry. some of their chickens cannot easily caugth especially when they are about to become fertile both hens and roosters. some are docile but mostly the best meat are the ones who are about to lay eggs and those are not easily baited as they became untamed.. so i need to chase them until i gasp breathe.. luckily i have my dog named cerafin and he's better in hunting the chicken that i used to chase to! he will not going to eat it and only some rashes at the chicken's feet!

I caught chicken pox once. Found it on the shingles (groan.)
Had to catch a pig once at work. Or rather, was asked to have a go. Damn those little rascals are just sooo greasy - shift like a bullet too.
Then I fell over in what it did after I'd excited it ...

No i can not. I'm scared that they might bite me (or whatever it's called ). I remember we had cousins who have a few chickens, when I was a little kid. I was really scared, I wouldn't go close to them and sometimes they would chase me

I have never had to catch my own chicken. i always let the grocery store do that chore for me instead. My grandmother grew up on a farm and she was always telkling her grandchildren stories of chasing chickens. she said it was not as easy as it looked or as funny as it was in the movies.
