Why do newbs break the rules? Here's why ...

LOADS of newbs making the same mistakes, asking the same dumb questions etc etc.
Yadda yadda ... and we all know how to help em, dom't we? By adding sanctimonious tags and "dur - read da rulez" type posts. Well, you know what? I'm on their side for once. Cos after I read a reply to a post here that (yet again) was along the lines of "... which is why your discussion will be deleted" I thought, hokay, let's post a link to that exact FAQ/house rule then.
Only I couldn't. Why? Because the FAQs/house rules are so damn complicated, that's why!
For a start, those to whom the idea of posting ANYTHING online in a foreign language is a new experience are expected to know they have to scroll down to where, in very tiny letters, they'll see the relevant links. Then they have to decipher the content under those scored underlines (and there's an awful lot of them), decide which are relevant - and maybe translate.
Come on MyLot, let's do this together - What we need is a REALLY obviously placed, kindergarden level talk through that lists the maybe 5 or so things people keep getting wrong. Maybe even a streaming tutorial like some other sites have - wouldn't that be a wowee?
No, I didn'tfind what I was looking for. A Mylot rule about posting or asking about earnings.
Yadda yadda... this will get deleted. I KNOW ALREADY. Sheesh.

Hi Sue!
Can I say my bit here?
First and foremost 'FAQ' does not mean Free And Quick (anyone who does not have English as their first language and even those that do, unless they are familiar with online sites, does not realise what it means)
FAQs = Frequently Asked Questions
and for this reason, many topics started by new users are already violations because their question has an official answer there by myLot.
Why are 'earning' topics usually deleted?
'how much do you earn?' is a poll (and therefore a violation)
'how much does myLot pay?' is answered in the FAQs
'what are your earnings since you started here?' is a poll and asks personal information and is of no use to anyone because what one user earns will not be the same as another user as explained in the FAQs.
'how can I earn here?' is answered in the FAQs
Alex is our resident admin with the username GoAskAlice and can be found here:
http://www.mylot.com/GoAskAlice
and he has already said (somewhere which I will find later) that he is reviewing the Guidelines and intends making them easier to comprehend (for everyone regardless of which language they speak). This will help but will it be enough? I doubt it because there is always someone that will want to 'bend' what they read

Well, I don't see why this discussion will get deleted. I don't think it violates guidelines.
Some members, including me have discussed about having a clearer guidelines with clear examples. I certainly hope the myLot admins take note of those suggestions.
Oh, I don't think myLot have any rules - as mysD pointed it out to me. It has ToS, Guidelines and FAQs. NO RULES. It's just that we have to follow Guidelines in order to earn from our activities here.
Regarding posting or asking about earnings: the myLot Guidelines state:
DON'T
Post anything that inaccurately explains the myLot earnings algorithm. Our myLot mathematicians have worked long and hard on our elaborate payment system and we wouldn’t want any of our users to make them feel inadequate by breaking their algorithm in minutes.

Asking about what other member earns could probably come under lots of Guidelines such as Duplicate Postings, Personal Info, etc. etc.

'Except then we'd have to have it in multiple languages wouldn't we?'
No, because unless you can understand English myLot is not for you, sadly.

This is what Alex said:
"Sharing ones earnings is not prohibited as long as it is part of a broader and more substantial discussion. Simply announcing how much you have earned as the main subject of your discussion is what i consider a "milestone" type discussion. If you post a discussion that simply asks everyone how much they earn here then it is considered a "poll" type discussion. I hope this clarifies things a bit for you."

Rules was quicker to type! Glad someone else agrees - I like my idea of a streaming tutorial with a voice over. Except then we'd have to have it in multiple languages wouldn't we? Oh no ...
Re the earnings bit - I'm sure at some time I read you mustn't disclose earnings. Maybe that was a violation of the Yuman Writes act and got removed.

jazz i think you are very very right and a video tutorial would be great. i most read some rules as they start then just figure it out as time goes on. most stay anyway and i think most get addicted here. yes and us that dont see that well, are going to miss the teeny writing.

and yes some people just seem to love rubbing it in when a newbie messes up. instead of being politely helpful. when i first started, there was one gal on here that put in every reply, when i mentioned why something was deleted, she put in every response "because it was against the rules"!! i replied several times, "yeah, i get that" and still she did it. had me so upset, i told her several times you dont have to be rude and just keep saying it. finally i just had to drop it. and ignore her, which i do to this day.

The reason that I think they are broken a lot is because they do not know better. Or lets face it, there are many places online where there are rules, but its not like that they are really enforced, therefore, they just regard the rules with a casual indifference at best. Then until that moment when they are going to get deleted because of some infraction.
Then of one of two things are going to happen(for the most part at least). They are going to realize that the rules are something that are going to be followed, so they look at them a bit more closely, in order not to make the same mistakes again. Thus having the potential to be productive members of the myLot community. Or they take their ball and go home, branding myLot as a waste of time, because they did not bother to follow the rules. In other words, it is the fault of the website that they did not read the rules.

well look on the bright side a least I've read it. All I can say is from a newbie stand point we have to do our homework too steady reading the faqs but really from a newbie point of mind is "I want to make money right now" and dive into it without knowing how it works. So my advice is read read read..... before you join a money making program so your questions will be more of valve to the vets in the program already..

Sue nowadays when a new user registers they receive an email which, among other things, takes them here:
http://www.mylot.com/o/mylot.aspx
It is in their own interest BEFORE they start posting, to read it and if they don't, well, it's not really anyone else's fault if they get things completely wrong is it?

Ah well, I never got that - pitched in at the deep end as they say.
Even if I did, I wouldn't remember, cos since then I've had another baby and gone through the menopause. Which is no excuse but ...
Oh alright I'll show y'all how old I am. When I was at school I didn't do GCSEs, I did O levels. As in "Oh, that's above my level as well then."
