AOL Again

I woke up this morning and my mail filters weren't working (again). Two months ago I switched from a pay plan to their free e-mail since I wasn't using their connection or software any more, just the e-mail. You don't suppose they're punishing me because I'm no longer paying them for what I'm not using, do you? (looks around conspiratorially)... I guess it's time to put in a support ticket and see how helpful they are with free customers.

I read on here last week where someone also had same aol issue. Seems after reading responses that you are not the only one. The OP stated she was waiting for a reply and 3 days later still no response.

AOL is weird combination of letters for me and only! All my personal mail goes to gmail (yes, weird combination too). its free, fast, easy to use and if there is any problems with it, then i cant blame them - they are storing my information for free.

I have heard of so many having trouble with them. I had them for several years and can't remember too many problems....good luck!

Until the last year or so, I haven't had a whole lot of trouble (with the e-mail). The last year it's been one thing after another, even when I was still a paying customer.

I used to have AOL. I had seven usernames and it was when I first started online. Got a free membership with my Dell laptop. Three different times I woke up and went on to check my emails to find a notice from AOL. My username was going to be deleted. Weird. So I emailed them wondering what was going on. They explained that someone was using my account to send out spam with that username. Lovely. This happened three times. And on the usernames I had all kinds of weird stuff happening. Needless to say I am no longer on AOL. All my Mylot notifications come to Yahoo and I have never had a problem with them or MSN.

I did have somebody hijack my account there once, but then my hotmail was hacked too. And I know lots of people who have had their Yahoo accounts hacked as well. I don't know that any e-mail is really safe.

I have never had a problem with Yahoo, Msn or gmail. Nor have I heard of any except what you just stated about Yahoo. I had a problem late at night getting on my Yahoo account once or twice but that was all. That was due to heavy traffic.

i really didnt know you could get aol free. i know i just keep 3 different free email accounts for different things. aol was always a problem for me since they send so many cookies from everything you visit, plus i tended to get viruss really often,

I have hotmail, but so many of my friends' hotmail accounts have been hacked, actually so has mine, that I"m leery of it. Also, not that this would be a problem, but if you don't use the account for a while, it all goes bye bye.

So AOL still exists somewhere ? They left Europe last year, except UK and Ireland, but we can also have a free AOL email account here. No need of filter : they were rejecting my emails as spam when I was trying to answer to my friends with AOL accounts... With this fine behavior they lost half of their customers in France.

They may lose this one too, but I have an awful lot of saved stuff that I'd have to do something with.

I do not know how works AOL mail. If there is a possibility of POP you can possibly download all your stuff with an email client at your home.

nah. aol, and others their spam filters never did work that well I get more regular emails in my spam box, and more spam in my regular emails most of the time.. so i read spam box first mark all as non spam then read emails and mark all the spam as spam.. wish I could reverse the folders at times.. .. aol has always been interesting from the free perspective..

I'm talking about filtering e-mails. For example, I send all my myLot mail to "myLot" folder. Same thing with Facebook. But yeah, their spam filter is only so so ...

That gets incredibly frustrating, if you are counting on them to do their part. I have not ever used them.

Can't expect too much from free services, even many paid services are not THAT helpful. Aren't they all good until a problem arises? Well, at least that's the normal scenario, haha!~

No, I don't expect much in the way of support. But they do promise that their free mail has all the same features as if you're paying...

Oh, my...AOL? AOL was my first internet experience back in my dark ages of web usage. I kept getting free service by threatening to discontinue service. They'd extend it for 3 or 6 months and then I'd complain again. I think they kept me on for over a year for nothing before I finally had enough and just left. I pay for my main email now. They have a free service but I needed the larger capacity and I store a lot of files offline that way. But even with the paid service, the filters leave a lot to be desired. I received another phishing attempt today that was downright blasphemous. Luck with your support request.

I don't mean spam filters though. I mean where I can create a filter so that some of my mail gets put into folders.

Ahhhh, soooo....I understand now. I've got about 50 of 'em. Really need to do some cleaning out. I think I've got stuff in those that's been accumulating for 5 years or more.

You know, I gave up all use of email when our family moved from having dial up internet to having a cable modem in our house. That was because at that time I thought that their customer service was pretty bad. We left them over eight years ago. I don't think that I would have very much faith at all in the kind of customer service that they will offer to their free customers if they couldn't support their paying customers.

"Free" services do not come with "Ready" services, but with "Free" glitches. Good luck with the support ticket!

I have not had a problem switching to a free program. It might just be a glitch.I think the whole internet is having problems. Both my mom and I as well as some other friends had problems getting on and staying on several different sites the past three or four days. If I were you,I would proceed to put the trouble ticket in to them and just see what they say.It can't hurt. Good luck
