Can a man blind since birth dream like a normal person?

A blind man cannot see anything. If a man is blind from birth, he cannot see anything since his birth and so it is easily understood that he has not enjoyed by seeing the flora and fauna, the different colours of nature on this world. Then is it possible for him to dream? If possible, can he see a definite form or figure of a man or an animal or a plant or anything else as seen by a normal person and can make an idea of it?

We do have a blind person on myLot, although he has not been active in about 4 months. Too bad though because he would have been the right person to answer. He shared his life with us some time ago, linking youtube videos on how he lives. He had special equipment he uses to type here on myLot. It was truly amazing to how he shared his life with us. Only I have no idea where he has gone, although his profile is still here he has not been active for a while.

I am so touched to hear that there is a blind person here in MyLot. It's amazing to learn what technology has to offer us.I salute his courage and hope. A normal human being has so much to learn from people who are physically challenged. I worked for 2 years with disabled people, i am always surprised by their progress and the encouragement they provide to others.

If a man is blind from birth he can dream like a normal one. Dreams are state of mind. It is related with mined not with eyes. A blind can not see but he can hear. So any one if decribe a blind about any thing he can feel it.

He can also 'see' like a bat (I guess it's sort of a combination of hearing and feeling), like a story in The Atlantic said about a blind man who 'taught himself to see.'

While a blind man cannot see with his eyes, he does have other senses that allow him to observe the world around him. His world would be made of sounds, textures, smells, etc. These things can occur in dreams as well as visuals. And because they have the feeling of what is around them, they can still sense those things, it just won't be in color.

I am very sure a man who is blind since birth dreams but different than the normal one as they could no figure the exact like normal people. They will dream based on their other sensory and visualize it the way they sense it.

We build our dreams from material we've gathered with our senses during our waking hours. So, a person who has never been able to see, doesn't have any visual images and memories to build their dreams from, as they've never known the world through their visual sense. But the other senses, which have become very astute in the case of blind people, can compensate for this lack. I believe that their dreams are every bit as vivid as ours.

But the question arises whether they can visualize the objects during their dream like us in respect of form or figure.

No, they can't. They don't dispose of any visual data. Their information regarding shape and form comes from the tactile sense, so they will feel the object in their dream, but not see it.

I always wonder how blind people perceive this world. If they are born blind, they have other senses which are more developed. Some blind people have extraordinary sense of hearing or smell. They can identify people by their smell only. I think since dreams are based on our perception of this world that is what we see and have experienced in life, blind person also dreams based on his experiences in life. They have not seen an elephant in real life and their perception of elephant is based upon the things heard by other people and the image they have formulated in their mind. They can dream but their dreams will be based on their perception. In their dreams there will be abundance of other senses than visual since they do not have this sense. Their dreams must be totally different from a normal person. I am not sure, maybe their dreams are more beautiful than ours.

You'll have to ask a blind man. Although, he may ask, "What is normal?" I have a friend whose great granddaughter was born blind. For her, her condition is normal. She is an outgoing child with a sunny disposition. I'll have to ask Dorothy to ask the child about her dreams.

The visually challenged do dream! Only their dreams are not "Visual" The other sensory perceptions like touch, smell and sound come into play here. As enjoyable or frightening as normal dreams I suppose!

As amazing as it sounds they can, I think it's another proof of reincarnation because they couldn't possible know the shape of things if they really never saw a thing in life, like if they were "brand new".

He sees things like he sees them when awake. If blind people dream at all; have you done any reading on blind people's dreams?

Even though a blind person lives in his/her own world of darkness, i am confident that he/she has his/her own dreams. they have their own way of viewing things. Even though they have no idea what sort of creatures reside in this earth but they must be able to make some images in their brains and dream of such images. Thank you for asking such question and make me ponder upon it.

According what i heard a blind man from birth cannot dream because dream are the projection the images from the brain which are directly or indirectly fed into the brain. Neither he can figure out what are the shapes of a man or animal or a plant or anything else as a normal thing. what really concerns me is that animal which are not blind what do they see in their dreams if they see..

Thats hard, because how do you know if they see colours? how do you even explain what a color is? like how do you explain what the color green is colored as? what? maybe they see things we cant see? or maybe they make things up in their own heads? idk my head hurts .

That is an interesting queerie. I would think that since his psyche doesn't record such images then when he dreams I would think that he just see dark shadows and such. I would think that their dreams would be alot different from a sightful person too. I also wonder if sightless people even do dream. I would wonder.

I thought about that myself and really haven't come to an answer yet. I think when you blind you just can't see the images outside your head but you can still dream and see things that might be totally different than what we dream about

The consensus among people who have been blind since birth is that they DO dream, but that the majority of their dreams are auditory and sensory dreams, and not dreams where they can see. Some blind since birth people do see images and colors when they dream, but it is a rare instance and there's really nothing to explain it. There's nothing to explain dreams period, they're not really a totally grasped and known science.

I believe that a blind person senses in their dreams although they cannot see I feel they sense just like they do while awake. Since dreams are all in imaginary mode for normal seeing people, I find that as a blind person it would be the same only without the visual effects.
