I admit being workaholic not only for my offline job but also online. Imagine yourself working everyday without rest. Aside from your normal 8 hours work, you also spent hours for overtime. If that happened everyday, can you stay working many months without rest? What will happened to an individual if his/her habit is like this, working all the time without rest. Is there any consequences might happen to anybody who are workaholic?
What do you wants more money or take rest once in every week? In my case I want to take rest and be satisfied only on the salary that I get every month without additional funds. I already spoke to my Boss that I don't care to any revenue I get from overtime and cancel offs, I want rest every week. My body need rest. Is it true that we need rest?

Uhhh duh! It`s crucial to get rest. If someone worked themselves too hard, their performance would suffer. You know someone not resting and driving is the same as someone drunk driving? That`s how bad it is. Our body is not a machine. We need to rest or we wouldnt live very long.

Both of you are correct. I felt already that my work performance affected. Imagine early morning I am sleepy. While having a briefing to my subordinate, my body didn't synchronize what my words come out to my mouth in terms of motivating my colleagues, I mean my subordinate.
I agree to allengabz, machine need rest, schedule for maintenance to have a good performance. The more our body need to recover the energy lost.

I have had sch an experience before in my previous work where i was tasked to handle a 24hour operation team of report specialists.
First i was okay with the 14 hour daily shift starting from about two or three pm to morning tHe next day. It wad paid but myhealth suffered greatly.
After only 3 months ifesigned from tat post and id say i never did regret doing that... I value my health and if i get sick i wont even earn enough for my own meds...

You had a right decision made because better to take ourself because we only have one body and we have to take care of it. We can find money in a different way but we cannot find another body to replace ours if it is not useful. We are not like machine that if it is already damage you can buy parts from any spare parts shop.

It is very true that we need rest. I am also a workaholic and spend very little time resting. FOr me, rest comes during those 4 or 5 hours that I am asleep...when I sleep that much. Other than that, I think I may spend one day a month really trying to rest and relax. Unfortunately, when I do try to take that time out, I end up paying for it in the end because things just don't get done.
I work both online and offline as well. On top of what I do for income, I also have to maintain my house, run all the errands, keep schedules straight for everyone in the household so I am able to take everyone where they need to go, make sure homework is done, etc., etc.
I know that when I have gone through periods of not resting at all, and sleeping very little, I get more stressed out, easily irritated, more frustrated and on egde, my appetite changes, I have trouble focusing and overall, I am not a very pleasant person to be around. If I take just one day a week to do something that needs to be done, but is not within my normal routine, it helps me feel a little better too. I am still working at something, I am just working at something different than normal.
I don't think that I have any option but to work and work all of the time. There are so many things that need to be accomplished and so many things that I am working towards, it takes me working almost non-stop to make progress.
When I really need a break, my family can tell because those are the days when I just lie down on the couch and do absolutly nothing at all. Unfortunately, they seem to follow my lead and nothing gets done at all.

I also caught myself losing appetite if I am stress and tired from work. Everytime I got in my room I end up sleeping and it seems I don't want to rise up from bed. If my Boss give me rest even 1 day in a month I atleast I can sleep the whole day and recover all energy lost. I am trying now to discuss with my Boss that human need rest. Even machine need to stop the operation sometimes for maintenance. I am right?

I cannot stay longer with straight working hours, I have less tolerance when it comes to boring routine job and I have a very boring job to speak about so working beyond eight hours in the office is like hell!
Our body needs rest that is a fact, or else we will die soon with stress and pressure. Sometimes I would take a break from work and do some writing and reading stuff in order to avoid tension and anxieties.

Hi julyteen: I am a workaholic too and I'm a very responsible person. However my health is my first priority and I need to rest. No matter the amount of job that I have, there's a limit, usually at 8 pm and if I haven't finished, well i am sorry, I'll continue my job for the next day. I respect my health and my boss should respect this. I won't do anything more no matter what it takes to keep this choice. I am a human and I have dignity, no matter how important a job is, my health is the most important thing I have and I am not a slave. If you lose a job you can find another but if you lose your own health you lose it forever.

I used to be like that. I worked and worked and I would stay on my job when they asked me to. I then would come home and go on the computer and try and make some extra money. I was getting maybe 4 hours a sleep a night, sometimes 3. I was running myself down, then in 2007 everything in my life came crashing down, not from or because of me working all the time but from relationship troubles. I still continued working, then my job closed down, went on unemployment and basically lost all my drive in life.

Yes you need rest, rest keeps a person focus. Sleep is going to help you work better. It keeps you awake so it will keep you efficient. Tell your boss you need some sleep or you cant complete the work that cant be done 24/7 a day 7 days a week. Rest your body, so you can be awake for work. If I worked all the time then I would suddenly sleep in middle of work and maybe get nothing done. Sleeping is what I need to be able to work because the boss might fire me if he caught me sleeping. Tell your boss a reason and he will agree.

I have found, if I am really busy at work I can work more, be more productive, get more done and not get tired as easily. It is not having much to do that makes me tired. I am somewhat of a workaholic. My job goes in spurts and I have to put in lots of hours when there is a deadline and that pumps me up. Then I go through weeks where there isn't that much to do and I work alot less and get tired faster. I read somewhere that the United States is famous for wearing ourselves out working. Like it is a contest to see who can work more. And now with cell phones and laptops even when we go home, we are still working, at least a little.
