I just made chicken pie for dinner tonight, it is the first time I made chicken pie. Somebody told me that I shouldn't use the mixer to mix the dough of the crust but I just couldn't make it a ball so I ended up using the mixer. The filling is easy to make. I just hope the crust will taste like a crust... I never made pie so I didn't know what is the right way to do it. How do you make pie? Do you need a mixer to do it?

I love chicken pie, but must admit I have never made one myself. So you are step ahead of me with it. If I were to make it I would follow some of the responses above and buy the crust ready made, lol.. But I see a recipe posted above and will check it out, because nothing beats homemade and from scratch.

Pie crust isn't hard to make and it's a lot less expensive than buying premade crust. If the first time doesn't turn out the way you like, try it again.

Hello marmaid. My family likes pot pies too. I have found a no fail pie crust on the net calling for egg and vinegar. I used to try other pie crust but found adding egg and vinegar makes the best and flakiest crusts. http://allrecipes.com//Recipe/no-fail-pie-crust-i/Detail.aspx

I love chicken pie but I get to buy some good stuff at Red ribbon's Bakeshop or Goldilocks Bakeshop. So I never thought of making the crust myself. But now you did give me some real good idea.

I've wanted to make chicken pot pie for some time now, but have not worked up the courage to make my own dough crust. I've thought about buying premade crust. The pie crust is supposed to be easy to make, it's just flour, water yeast, etc. A very basic crust will do. I'm not expert on pie making, though. I would have to consult a recipe book.

I just use regular pie crust for meat pies. If you have trouble making it into a ball, you may not have quite enough liquid in it. It will fall apart and crumble if you don't, or if you have too much, it will be sticky. Crust is the most tender when it's handled the least and I suspect that's why you were told you shouldn't use the mixer for it. It might be fine, thought. You can decide that when you eat the pie!

It was very crumbly, I added extra cold water into it, that helped; I wonder how it will come out now...

Chicken pot pie is one of my favorite dishes. I let 2 frozen pie crusts thaw out, cut them in strips & put then on the top of the filling. Works real good & i get alot of compliments on mine especially the crust.

This discussion reminds me of my gradmother. She has passed away quite a few years ago , but i still think of her often. she used to make the best chicken pie in the world when i was a child. She would spend an eternity in the kitchen preparing the dough and she didn't use a mixer. There was love in every bite. I could never make chicken pie like my grandmother did, but i will always cherish the memories.
