Should teh 18th birthday really be a big deal for a teenage girl?

I have grown up in a place where girls who turn 18 would celebrate their birthdays in a grand manner, some celebrating even in hotels. They say because it is a significant thing for a teenage girl as she is now turning into a woman and is time to face the new challenges of life. Do you remember your own 18th birthday and did you also have a grand celebration?

Of course I DO remember it. I was in school that time and I never thought of making my 18th birthday a grand celebration. For me it's still my normal birthday so I, together with my friends, celebrated it normally.

It is a big deal in my country too but unnecessarily impractical. My sister and I had a grand celebration complete with the frills that goes with a grand debut party. The hotel, the gowns, the cake, the regalia. If I would have a choice I would have rather spent in traveling in Hong Kong and just do a shopping spree. I could have bought the clothes that would last me for years rather than just a memory of a one night party. And I thought you can decide for yourself when you are 18, but at that time that day was decided by my mother to hold a grand party than following my heart's desire.

Well, for a girl or guy for that matter turning 18 is a special time in their life, and one that starts to mean more of a turn toward adulthood and a special time in their life for sure. A lot of times it is nice to do something special for them and celebrate it in a Grand style of some sort if you can afford too. I know overall, that I have seen many things done over the yrs. and it all depends on what type of thing you think is appropriate for the situation at hand.

At least where I live, being 18 would make you an adult already, meaning you are authorized to go to adult-only places, you can vote on election day, but at the same time you would be made responsible as an adult if required.

I don't have that grand celebration for a fact that we can't afford to have party in hotels. And yet I am kind of woman that is not really a lady type who would wear a gown and guys would give me a flower then dance with them. I still made my event memorable but in practical manner. We just availed the Clubhouse inside the village of City. We approach someone to decorate balloons that is according to my motif. Then I made it like children's party and theme was Tweety Bird so the decoration was about it as well that I even have the flag of Tweety Bird, even my cake was decorated like that. Instead of wearing gown I just worn a simple violet dress. Then I allow my guests to wear casual attire instead of making it too formal. Because in reality other people wouldn't want to go in debut just because of attire. I have my party games that is fit to adults then my 3 gays and 1 guy friend of mine have dance the Lady Marmalade that is tribute to me. That was really memorable.

I had a grand celebration for my birthday and everyone who helped me celebrate made it grand with and for me. Me and a bunch of my friends went out to the club because I was finally old enough to get in 18 and up clubs and we had a blast all night dancing with each other and meeting new people. The club is no longer there but I will never forget that night

For me no! Its okay for me not to have a big [arty on my 18th Birthday! All I want is that my whole family is there on my special day! A big party is just expensive for my family, we can't even afford to buy a cake! If my whole family, friends, and other loved ones are there then my 18th birthday will be fine!
