Microsoft no longer provides free web hosting?

I just started to use the free web hosting service provided by Microsoft, which is called Office Live Small Business. I was happy to find this free service, and thought it should be more reliable as it's provided by Microsoft.
I just checked out the site, and wanted to share this good service to others, and found that this service is going to cease in maybe October 2011, and it'll be replaced by another service called Microsoft Office 365. Of course, the new service is much better, but it's a paid service.
Why can't Microsoft continue to provide free services or products to the users? Or it's just that I read the news wrongly?

Money?? They still have their Office suite which a lot of people use and pay for. But there is also more and more free "office" stuff which is as good if not better. Who know with Microsoft??
