How Far Are You from Your Office?

I woke up today late, I was addicted to mylot that I stayed late last night. So I rushed to all the things should be done in the morning, the usual routines. After getting ready for work, I run downstairs and rushed to find a 'jeepney' to hop in and ride towards my office, just not to get late.
Lucky me, I didn't get late today. But I was thinking if I am just so near in the office. If I could just walk to the office in about 5 minutes it would be better... No need for me to rush things out, and maybe won't forget some stuff to bring... I travel usually 30 minutes going to the office that's the minimum. How about you guys?

I am pretty far from my office. I have to be on the road by 6am so as not to get stuck in traffic. I need to get 3 rides from home. In the morning it will take me about 1 & hour to get there. And a lot more in the afternoon where traffic is just worst and we have to take a queue to get a ride. We will be moving to a new house soon and I hope that my travel time would be lessened by then.

Yeah, I just get so sleepy whenever I get home.
I usually eat, play with my kiddo a bit and sleep.
I take a nap on a public transportation whenever I can.
It usually helps not to notice the traffic jam and the time.
When you wake up you are almost at your destination.

That's what I'm thinking.. If I could only live just near the office the traffic haunt would no longer be able to bother me. :) You have a pretty long travel before you get to the office huh..

I have two places where I work. I have a production company and specialize in dance performances with plans to add music in the future. I can do a lot of my practicing such as my warming up and other basic exercises at home, and also I use my home computer to conduct my company's online affairs.
If I need more space, however, which is always an inevitability, I go to the studio at the YMCA, which is right down the road, less that five minutes away from where I live. I do that every night to practice and rehearse my performances and perform other endeavors (like other training exercises) that require more open space than I have in the house.

I live about 2 kilometers or 5 minute drive away from the office.
So even if I wake up a little late, I can still make it at 8.
The worst thing could happen is to be late for 30 minutes if,
Something happened along the road.
I drive for work.

Good for you, you will have only around five minute drive. While I have to ride and that's more around 30 minutes minimum ride towards office... :)

Well it is about 15 miles from where I live and I go the back way so I don't have a lot of traffic it takes me about 30 minutes to get to work I try to leave a little early so I can get there on time but every time even if I leave early or late I always end up early or right on time. I wish I was closer too.

I haven't worked outside the house for the last four and a half years. However, when I did work outside the house, the longest commute that I ever had to work was about twenty minutes. The reason that I wasn't all that far from work is because I don't want to have to drive a long time to get to work because then I am spending a lot of money on gas and then I really don't have a lot of money left over to pay for essentials because I'm buying gas.

Commuting really takes time. Hmmmm. in my case it could take 30 minutes fastest ride, and up to 45 minutes if things or traffic gets worse. Good thing you're no longer working outside now. :) wish i could do it too. :)

great view on the circumstance. Some of the comments here says, it's not a guarantee not to be late if you are just that near. like you said it has its own PRos and Cons. :)

My main issue is getting the kids to school on time each morning. I work for myself and by myself, so I have had the good fortune to be able to set my schedule around their school schedule. It really is nice to be able to work like this, and it is even nicer being my own boss. I still have certain times to be at different locations each day, but if I am running late, it doesn't effect my work like it does a lot of other people.
When my day of work outside the home is done, I retreat to my office that is comfortably located in my home, to do other things that need done each day.
I think that if I were still working for someone else, I would be in big trouble. I am so used to my current schedule and the way it works, I am sure that I would be consistantly late if I had to really worry alot about the time.

Absolutely! I too dreamed to have my own office at home. If I could just get that accreditation so easily I would really be glad to have my office at my home, and practice my profession being my own boss, not to conform to other people's time requirement of log in and log out. hmmmm. And it would be a lot better if I will be in a business where I run my own company. Anyway, there's no substitute for hardwork, I just need to adjust and adapt to the circumstance as of the moment. :)

Since i work from home - my living room is my office! lol! I hope in my new apartment I will put more of the office type stuff in my bedroom instead of the living room (except the computer of course). So My office is not far away and on the weekends I work in my pajamas!

Hello Chuyins123. I am working at home for the time being so my office is just right in my next room and I am also a mylot friend as well. However, I really hope to go to an office to work like I used to be as soon as possible. It is not fun to work at home and sometimes it can be so boring as well. It is true that I don't have to deal with all the headache for encountering any interpersonal relatioship when I work at home. But it is not too healthy to jsut face the computer and internet all the times because it is just a machine anyway.I hope I can have a great change as soon as possible. Have a good day.

Yeah, that's not too healthy when you work in front of a computer for almost all the time everyday. I noticed that if I am working so much in front of a computer I am easily irritated. So as much as possible I want to break routines and I avoid bein exposed so much to the computer for long each day. :)

My house to my office is about 20-30 minutes walk depending on how fast I walk. It's quite near if you think of it but like you, I am quite getting addicted to mylot and other online stuff that I wake up late every morning and end up taking a cab on my way to the office. Sometimes, I find it frustrating especially since my place is quite near to my work place compared to my office mates. If I take a jeepney, it usually takes 20 minutes for me to come to work with all the traffic going on. But now, since there are less students during rush hour, I can ride the jeepney and arrive at work for about 15 minutes.

Yeah, with not much students now, traffic is a little bit lighter... I really don't want to be late but I just can't do anything with the traffic. :)

Hi Chuyins,
Don't think those who live close to the office are never late. For me it takes only 15 minutes from bus stop to bus stop and another 10 minutes to walk up to the site. But if I don't watch the time in the morning, I can but wave good-bye to my bus. The same applies at the end of the day: not being ready to leave the office on time may easily result in half an hour delay.
Nevertheless, it's great to live close to the office. It happens sometimes that I have to do overtime until the last bus is gone. No problem, I can safely walk home even in the late hours of the night.

I see. In my case Transportation is not a problem. There are a lot of "jeepneys" to ride, just that traffic can imprison you for how many minutes on your way to the office. :)

My office is 30 minutes away from my house, but even I sleep late I can manage to wake up early and go to my office on time. Maybe because of my body clock. If you use to wake up the same time everyday for 4 years, maybe you will not be late.

The thing is I don't wake up that early everyday. Maybe I need some adjustments too. LOL. I am a sleepyhead really. LOL. That's why I usually rush things out when I wake up late. :)

That's pretty far for me. Traffic consumes my time going to office. :) that's why it took me 30 mins ride going to office. :)

I used to live about 25 to 30 minutes away from the office as well, but then I started working on my own, self-employed, and now I don't have to drive anywhere because my office is in my own house. No more commuting, no more having to be there at a certain time, etc. At first it was kind of hard getting use to it, but now, I wouldn't change it for anything.

Hi chuyins123, I like working in place where it's quite near to my house. For sometimes I'm quite absent-minded and would forger this and that in a hurry. This usually would happen when I stay up late indulging in my online tv series You know we could hardly get up even having alarm set to wake us up early in the morning, right?!
From the time you spend on the way to your office , seems that your workplace is quite far away from your residence. Oh gosh, 20 minutes drive, I still consider it's rather far. Therefore I pick my part time work where I need just a 3 minutes drive to reach it. In case I forget to bring any essential stuff it's very convenient for me to return home to get it in a short while
For me easy commute is the first priority to choose a desirable job. It is not only saving travelling time and gasoline. If my car doesn't work I can reach my destination on foot easily.
Happy posting
