I know there are a lot of Indians who might not agree with me, but I think Sri Lanka is on the way to win the world cup. Although India has a strong batting lineup, they haven't performed as they were expected. Even in the Semi final played against Pakistan, India got a really good start, but was unable to maintain the momentum. I saw they wobble in the preliminary matches as well. Batting is the strength of this Indian team, Sachin and Shewag are their trumps. What if they fail?
On the other hand, Sri Lankan bowlers led by Murali, has this wicket taking ability better than Indians. And Our Openers has scored two double century partnerships during this world cup. One against Zimbabwe and the other against England. Sangakkara and Mahela are also among the runs.
It's going to be a real challenge for the Indians. They could not ask for a better opponents. The best two teams have made it to the finals. So watch out India, here we come...

Moksha, SL won the match against New Zealand, comprehensively, in this world cup, at the same venue. So your information is wrong. And, India were beaten by SL at the Test and ODI series they last met.
... And the crowd... I hope they won't be as bad they were in 1996 at the Eden Garden, The Semi final we met India.... Hope you guys remember the black mark..

India were beaten by Sri Lanka Test and ODI series they last met?
In 2010 India toured Sri Lanka and lost at Galle the first Test. But drew the second test and won the third test at Colombo. So the test series was drawn. Not won by Sri Lanka.
And one day matches, India lost two and won one, it was 2-1. So it is close and not as if 3-0.
But the last time Sri Lanka played in India, India defeated Sri Lanka 2-0 in three Tests, two innings defeats and one draw.
And India defeated 3-1 in 5 match ODI series where on was No result.
Happy Mylotting!

Hi Ranbanda!
Good to see your optimistic and confidence on your team. But you have just listed Indian weak points and struggles but forgot to mention your team's weak points.
You mention only New Zea Land matches but forget Sri Lanka's match against Pakistan in league stage. What happened in that? Sri Lanka lost to Pak. India beat Pak. So it is on that day who plays better and what works that will decide the match and not what one has done in the previous matches!
If India struggled against England, England lost to Ireland but India defeated Ireland. So any thing can happen.
Surely your openers have performed well. But If they fail what do you expect the score to be? You think of Indian openers failing but just think of Sri Lanka openers failing. Then what?
And New Zea Land players are not good players of spin bowling so they struggled to keep a good run rate. Remember New Zea land defeated South Africa. Or else Sri Lanka would have had trouble to beat South Africa. At least not as easily as they did New Zea Land. So it is all about what works on that day.
Over all it will be a close fight no matter who wins.
Just another two days and we will come to know what happens.
Happy mylotting!

Ranbanda,
I added Pakistan and Ireland and England because you were mentioning about India's struggle in the league matches. But you didn't mention Sri lanka's struggle against Pakistan.
Yes, Malinga was not playing against Pakistan but that cannot be an excuse for a loss. In that game Pak played better than Sri Lanka.
Where did I say that, Pak beat SL, India beat Pak, that is why India will beat Sri Lanka? I never said like that. Just go through the post. I said, Pak defeated Sri Lanka but India defeated Pak. England almost defeated India but Lost to Ireland. So what I am saying is who plays better on that day wins the match irrespective of how one has performed in the past.
Good Luck and Have a nice time!

Wismay, Yes SL lost to pakistan, at Premadasa, they scored 275 odd, and Not a single team scored 260 under lights at the history of that ground. And remember, Malinga was not playing.
And Pakistan is a way better team than England.
Yes, I agree with you NZ should not be at the semis, they should have beaten by SA, which was not to be. But SA has this psychological thing as they never won a knockout match at world cups.
At the beginning, SL didn't expect to our openers to perform this way. Our batting strength was at Sangakkara and Mahela. The openers have eased their job.
Why do you add Ireland to the equation?
India beat Pak, Pak beat Sri Lanka, so logically India Beat Sri Lanka, right? At cricket, you don't make those kinds of equations. These two teams were at the top of the list for the world cup, as so they made it.
Yes, we can't say who will winn the match, let the best of the best wins. You want India to win adn we want Sri Lanka to win, and that's the way it should be. After all, we are relatives by history, and neighbors. So we both should be happy that we can keep the world cup at the sub continent.
Good luck.

I agree with you Srilanks is prospect winner of world cup. I read today that Murli is not fit for the match. In Indian team batting line is good one Sachin Shewag, Gambhir, Youvraj singh are all in form. so we can't tell that India have not any chance to win this tournament. Wait and watch.

Srilanka got a very good bowling line up compared to India, so this will be an advantage for Srilanka, whereas for India, we have a very good batting line up compared to srilanka, so it is the battle between a great batting line up and a good bowling line up.

Well i do agree that srilankans have performed well so far ... what really matters is can they sweep in the indians as they did against teams with meagre bowling attack?
Either teams have played each other numerous times...therefore,each of them are pretty much aware of tactics to halt batsmen and bowlers who were on a roll until now!Fingers crossed as of now...this is going to be one heck of a game though.Great day.

Well, It's going to be a cold war. These two teams were the favorites for this world cup. And both of them prove that they are capable to hold the cup. India has the luxury of playing at home, but Srilanka is not far from home either. The ground support will be all India.
I also remember that match way back in 1996, and I still remember Vinod Kambli crying on the way to the pavilion. I think both Murali and Sachin remember that game as well.
I'm also a Srilankan, and I wish my team win the match.

who can forget that match when India collapsed dramatically after Sachin's dismissal. Kabli was in tears as Clive Lloyd had to step in and award the match to SL.That was a long time ago and since then both teams have progressed very well and today we are face to face again and this time it is a final. India is th leading ODI side and SL is just behind it so the competition will be tough.
Murali who caused all the damage back then is still there as is Sachin. This battle will bring a smile to their faces as both teams will like to win it for their super star icons.India was chasing then. I believe the toss will be crucial.
Both teams are being coached by the best two gentlemen in the business.
SriLanka's bowling is more varied and your spin attack is indeed formidable. Herath has bowled very well.Malinga is awesome as usual. we also know your weaknesses. This time around you won't have it so easy, you will see. The tables are turned. The win against Pakistan was haed earned where as you guys thumped your opposition quite easily so the intensity of the Indians will be that much more than your boys.

Both teams able to win World Cup. Sri Lanka had good bowling attack than India. If indians got the wickets of Sri Lanka openers early then Sri Lanka will be trouble. In my point of view in Batting India is strong, in Bowling Sri Lanka is stronger than India. But Indian batting lineup had the capability to face Sri Lankan bowling attack. So saturday's match will be very interesting. Sachin is playing in his home ground, I hope Sachin going reach 100 100s in international cricket and to kiss world cup.
