Writing daily diary

Since 1958, while I was reading in class VIII, my dad told me to write daily diary and since then I am writing. I complete it before I go for my shower at 10pm, next pray and sleep.
I don't write much, note down my activity, what I did, what to do next day, also note down the daily expenses there. On the last page I note down my user name, passwords etc.
It feels so nice to read them back.
Yesterday I was reading one of 1968, at that time I was getting a salary of 345 rupees only per month, and I was able to manage family with just 300 rupees, my parents were alive, my first daughter was born, but now even 28, 000 rupees from pension per month is insufficient. Prices have gone up many folds.
Do you write diary daily, keep it update?
Reading them, you must be feeling something.
Please respond, thanks in advance.

Cheers have a lucky day ahead.

I have never written a diary for more than maybe a few days, and that was only because it was required for a class. Most of the time, I don't even think about what has gone on in a day. Now I recently started a blog on my life since being diagnosed with ovarian cancer. I summarized the beginning (2003 to present), but now I will try to add to it at least weekly if not daily. I would like to use that to educate people on what to look for in themselves or the women they love. As far as prices go, I remember my first job in Alaska in 1980 I was making $1475/month that went up to $1675/month by the time I quit 2 years later. When I moved to North Carolina in 1998, I was still paid about the same, but most things were much more expensive, like food and gas. I can't picture trying to survive on the income with all my health issues now. Have a great day!!!

I forgot to mention that minimum wage went from about $3.45/hour in 1980 to over $7.25 last year.

Hi Professor,
Actually I never have written a dairy because growing up I did not have much privacy, actually it was a difficult childhood and nothing would have been safe to keep.
But just last year I had decided to begin, I figure better late then never because my thinking is that if I could include some of my past memories my children someday will be able to fully read on how the life of their mommy was such a big task but one that although difficult she on her own was able to overcome many obstacles to be able to raise them as well as I did.
Which one day when they are raising their own they realize that life is worth and about fighting for. So I thank you for reminding me and giving me the idea that if I set an exact time each day I may be able to do so long term.

Hi binggaling
Awwh you are too kind. My true intentions here on myLot is to somehow allow people to get to know me simply by my writing. Not with the intent to display my life but more so that people can read and really know the person I am. I study the words of many and am also inspired by many. It also gives me a glimpse of what life behind the avatar/picture may actually be like.
Oh and you are not nosy my dear more like caring.

When I was younger I did keep a daily journal. However, in the last several years that has been something that I have fallen away from since I've been a mother because I honestly can't find the time in the day to keep a journal. I wish that I did still have the time to write in one on a daily basis because I think that keeping a journal like that would be able to tell my children a lot about me if anything should ever happen to me.

That is such a nice thing to do,all those memories written down,to be able to go back and read them.In high school a group of my friends and I ,we developed an alphabet of our own and kept journals, and coresponded.I was a lot of fun.I kept a journal for years after, but when I left my native country I could only take certain things, and not too much.So that is when I stopped writing. Now ,when I think about it I regret not starting up again. But now I am busy with reading on the net, painting, etc.

I used to write a daily diary but I don't anymore! I ended up not doing it every day. When I would try to catch up I found out it didn't pay! Now a days I just write down stuff in a journel when I need to vent about something or problem or whatever. My life is so boring! I used to complain all the time on how lousey life could be, and how much I felt like I was the only one going through this situation in my diaries! I remember being qiute the complainer, winer and feeling so depressed! I have alot of those diaries around but I rather not go back in visit! It would make me sad!

hello professor,
as i read the responses to your discussion, it seems that diaries about life's events is slowly fading. it seems that people nowadays are more concerned about finances and updating about prices and the like.
i too, as a young girl, love writing diaries.
as of late, what is getting popular is blog.. which i dont have online and i hope to learn making one of these days.
what i have now is a little journal notebook where i write the beautiful things only that happens in my life. but i have not been updating it everyday now. guess am too busy and when at home.. i am already very tired and i want to just rest. anyways, this idea came from a very popular celebrity and i saw her talk about it and then, i thought, why not. so it all started from there.
she said "when you are down, read all the good things that happened in your life, and you will feel better".
have a nice day.

I don't write diaries although writing everything happening in your life must be terrific. I mean it's like reliving that part of your life, right.

As a high school student, I often write a daily diary so I can have a remembrance on that day. I started at around 2004 till now. Every time I read my old diary I can't get over with it. The first note in my diary was about my friends who migrate to another place.

Well, I still keep writing diary today, but not as that daily.
Back to the year 2001, when I got graduated from Junior Middle School, two of my 2-yrs long diaries were burned by myself. Inside that, full with a boy's names and all my puppy-love? about him...
But I burned them in case that someone would read them someday and made fun of me..
Now, just a little bit regret for what I have done..and the boy has become a happy married husband with his wife and family.
Bless all the past and pray for the future...
good day~~

It is a coincidence that I am reading this post today, because I am going to start writing Dairy from today. I almost forgot, but when I read this post, the first thing Iam going to do is to write the diary. Thanks a lot professor2010 for reminding me.

I just started keeping an online diary again after a long break. I know I'm good at writing, but I've never really enjoyed it, so maybe this will get me motivated.

I remember I have my diary way back in my high school days.
I update it daily.
I write my daily activities in school.
I write about my love story too.
But over 20 years now, I can't remember where I put that diary.
I can't find it anymore.

Wow Professor you have certainly kept your diary going for a long time! It would be so enlightening to read back to entries dated so long ago. I love to write and it is one of my favourite things to do yet I have never been able to stick to keeping a diary or journal. My guess is that, because some of my childhood events were very painful and I still have issues with my parent, I would find writing about my life very difficult although I am sure over time it would be healing in some way. Who knows I may be ready to deal with everything one day….Isn’t it funny to look back at the cost of living a few years ago? I recall my mother doing a weeks’ worth of groceries for $11 during the seventies; nowadays the same amount of groceries would cost around $150!

I have never liked my handwriting. These days I blog on four different subjects in hopes I can help other people by talking about what I've found out that works for me. Sometimes I know I have when people respond to a blog. Most of the time I don't know if I've made someones life better. Perhaps I'll never know. I just have to believe. On the other hand I know how much I made in the beginning of my career, $6 an hour. Now I make double that. I also know prices have risen 5 fold. Gasoline for our cars have gone up 7 fold. I don't know how I'd raise 3 children in today's economy.
