In my childhood going swimming in the stream is one of the most enjoyable things. But sometimes there would be something unforeseen for us.
At a section of the stream that we used to swim there, there was a short cliff about 3 meteres along the opposite bank,my playmates and I usually dived from the top of it into the water to enjoy the unique feeling.
One day we went there again,we played diving as usual. But the first jump I dived to the bottom of the stream, luckly my hands supported on some gravels in the soil. That was a call!My head wasn't injured!
"The water is too shallow."Someone said, and he told the others that some days ago one of the playmates knocked his upper lip open while diving!...
How about you,my friend?

I haven't personally experienced this, but my younger brother was down by the river one spring day and for some reason fell through the ice. I don't know why he was on the ice, but his friend got his mom and I guess she fell in too. Someone finally handed a limb out to them and rescued them. I was at school on that weekend day making candles for a fundraiser so I only heard about the incident, but didn't actually see it.

Sorry about not being around so much, but I had to get a lot of work done for school. I finished my final paper and turned it in last night and I started going through the old messages of discussions started by my friends. I just had my second round of chemo yesterday so I expect a few bad days coming up. I hope to be a lot more active again at least until my next class starts on the 26th. Have a great week!!!

I really don't know how to swim to date. I took swimming classes as a kid but me and my friends were scared of the water so we just hug around the pool and played with water. Now when I think of it, I regret and wish I'd learned swimming =(
Anyway seeing my friends having fun in the beach doesn't make me feel any better. Every summer I always almost drown trying to learn how to swim. I can float but nothing more than that LOL Maybe i'll get better this summer LOL

When I was 21 years old in Australia at the Great Barrier Reef I hurt of leg whilst climbing into the sea to go snorkeling. I scrapped it on a metal piece of the boat by mistake. I had my most scary time in the sea when I was 29 years old in Samoa. I was in a marine reserve snorkeling and I must have gone out too far. When I looked up I was near some boats out at sea. I was far from the land which made me feel terrified. I realized that the tide was pushing me even further out to sea. I decided to swim in a semi circle to stay out of the way of the powerful tide. Eventually I managed to get back to the shore and I was exhausted. Another very scary time was when I was 34 years old in the Maldives. The sea water was really choppy and the tide was really bashing me around. A few times water went down my snorkel and it really scared me. I was lucky that a German guy got hold of me and helped me back to the boat. A few days before that I had suffered a really scary attack and I suppose I was still quite shaken up for that snorkeling trip.

I am a good swimmer and swam both in high school and first year in college teams. But as a child one day I was in the pool with friends and thought I show off while having fun. Yikes big mistake I dove in a pool that clearly was too low in feet.
As I dove in I immediately felt the bang on my head. It was not a full force dive because at the time I was still learning to dive but it hurt so bad and I had a headache for days on end. I did not need emergency care so I suppose I was very lucky. From then on only dive in 8 feet or more water, to be safe. lol..lesson learned.

Diving into shallow water is how people become paraplegics or quadriplegics.
Caution should always be taken when swimming in natural places.
I used to love to go rock hopping both at the beach and near rivers. I'm sure when I was young I cut my foot on more than one oyster but I cannot remember specifics. I was a tomboy and rarely wore shoes so it was inevitable.

Yes,it's rather dangerous swimming in the shallow water.but cutting foot was very often while swimming in my childhood.

Hi. Oldsix691418. I am glad that you was not hurt at all. I am sorry about your playmate's accident though. This was a very scary experience for you, I am sure! I almost drowned when I was about 11 years old. I went into the five feet level of water. I think that you all just need to be careful about diving into the waters. Sometimes there is just not enough of water to dive into. I used to think this whenever I thought about taking a dive into any waters. Stay safe and take care!

Yes,he had to needle compensate in the hospital.sometimes we were too excited to remember being careful of the danger in the water, that's the reasons that led to incidents.

I don't recall ever being hurt badly when swimming as I am pretty cautious of those sorts of things. However, one time we were tubing down the river and I didn't see the rocks just beneath the surface and I hit one right on my tail bone! Very painful...

Thanks you are not hurt!
I have few experience with swimming.
When i was 5 years old,i accidentally fell into a deep well that is newly dug and no covering yet, luckily my uncle sees me so i was rescued.
When i was 7 years old,and stared my swimming lesson,i dived with confident but the water level is too deep for me and i almost drown, luckily my swimming instructor quickly come to my rescue.
When i was 9 ,by this time i knew how to swim already.
Me and my cousins go boating in my grandmother's hometown (it's a summer vacation)
It's around 8 people in the boat and 6 were children about my age.
We are giggling so much and boat turned upside down, and hit my forehead (i small cut was there) i feel dizzy but managed to swim and grab the boat (luckily i did not passed out )whoa..
But i never had fear of water,i mean,no trauma at all.
I still love to swim, love the beach and love swimming.
happy weekend

I'm glad i'm a girl, so i won't attempt those dangerous stuff such as jumping off cliffs, or somersaults, just to show off. I'm a quiet, non attention seeker. I will enter and leave the pool silently because i'm there to relax, enjoy myself, but not attracting unwanted attention. Furthermore, when it comes to depth in the water, it's not easy to gauge, and i don't want to risk any lives.

Let me see.. I have been bitten by jellyfish which hurts. They say you need to pee on that part to ease the pain. I never usually go to the deep but it didn't prevent me from knowing how it feels to be drowned. I drunk a couple of salt water that left me coughing and coughing I thought I would lose air.

Each of us has his/her story to tell. For me, I experienced somersaulting in a nearby river where I spent most of my childhood and growing up years. I remember a time, after a strong typhoon struck our place, rapid flowing water with strong current was evident everywhere. Water level grew and many children like me then enjoyed fresh cool dip in its waters. At one point, I lost control of myself and was carried by the flow around 50 meters away. Good enough I knew how to swim upstream which then brought me to its banks. Thank God His guidance was always evident even in the event when I was disobedient to Him! =)

I almost injured myself while swimming. I was in Florida on a beach where the waves were very large. I was swimming very far from the beach and I was near a large rock that stuck up above the water. Then, a huge wave came and I was being pushed towards the rock. Luckily, there was a smaller rock that I passed and i grabbed it and held on to it. Never swam that far out since that day.

i have almost drowned when i was abut 12 years old. i have not noticed that while i was swimming, i am already at the deepest portion of the pool and i was already tired... too good i was able to drag myself to the shallow portion(though i had cramps already). Thank God we are not in a sea so it was less dangerous... hehe

I remember one day, while child, that I jump into a pond, it was in the rainy season, and, current had carried some sort of old tree´s roots, but they were not seen from the rocks we were jumping to. In one of the jumps, my foot got stuck, in those roots and could´d go out, it was frightening, I do not have a clear picture of this in my mind, but, my father jump into the water too, and managed to dig me out, with nothing but a few bruises.

Back in my teens, my friends and I went swimming at a river near our place. I was always so scared of drowning at that time. And when we were just crossing by the river to get to the spot where we were supposed to be swimming, I slipped while on walking underwater on one of those hard slimy stones under the river. Luckily, one of my friends was behind me and she helped me out. I remember losing my slippers back then. My toe got hurt a bit but that was it. We still had so much fun after wards.

I've never done this. My mom was a nurse and she would tell us stories of kid that got brought in from diving accidents. Thank goodness you had the arms straight out. Best Wishes!
