I have always loved to fish. I'm a cane pole fisherman, no rod & reels for me. I just like to sit out there w/my cane pole & watch the boober, very relaxing & enjoy it alot. My son makes fun of me about my cane pole. The last time i got to go he & friend took me. Of course they had all the fancy stuff to fish with. I out fished them big time, lol. They were on the other side of the lake but u know how sound carries across the water. I pulled up a big ol'bass & i heard my son'e friend say & i quote'who in the hell does she think she is, bill dancer'. I got so tickled but i never let on i had heard him. He & my son both were totally disgusted w/me & my cane pole. do u bait your own hook? I do. Needless to say i haven't got to go again.. do u like to fish?? Do u use a cane pole or a rod & reel?

Though I have never experienced Fishing I always long to fish. I just don't know if I have the patience to wait till a fish would bite my bait. When I was young though I was always curious about fishing and the people in my hometown would usually fish using only a cane. No fancy fishing rods at all since they are expensive.
It's rare to find women interested in fishing but I am though I never have any experience.

when i was 12 yrs and there abouts, my cousins would go into the woods with me and we'd take a cane or wood or some kind of pole and be fishing off the bank but i dont remember catching anything. i think it was just so we could play and goof off and maybe thats why. but im not sure id enjoy it even now because, i cant stand to just sit that long. id be bored. unless i had my laptop.

Oh sounds like so much fun. I used to do a lot of fishing as a youngster but not any more. Yes i always baited my own hook. I have dug a lot of worms as well. I love fish I could eat it everyday. We always had the old spin reels and rods. I have never heard of the cane pole method but I would sure like to try it. I agree with you totally sitting by the water fishing is so relaxing, I love it. Thank You for the pleasant memories of your post!!! Have A Great Weekend.

I have never been able to figure out if I like to fish or just be outside...my son is a big fisherman! And so is my youngest granddaughter! Maybe it runs in the family? Good for you with your cane pole. My grandpa always used a cane pole.

Personally, I have never fished although I have been n a boat where people were fishing. My boys were forever fishing off rocks in the sea when they were young, You never cease to amaze me with what you can do. I have a nephew who is fanatical about fishing, He enters all these kind of competitions where there is one fish in a lake and they have to hook it. When it is caught then they let it go! He was holding this fish on the front page of a National Fishing magazine once. My father also used to fish so I guess he got it from him. Have a great weekend.

Fishing is something I have done in the past with my son and my husband. I was never really interested in it.
But I really love what you wrote. Reading your discussion I thought that it is never the equipment and how someone does what he does. It is the attitude! The fancy equipment does not make a good fisherman.- It is the love for fishing and the peacefulness you feel when doing what you do.-
Oh, by the way I remember when my kids were still young we lived close to a small river in France. One day my kids and I were by this river for an afternoon to enjoy the sun and play in the water. When a couple of Italian tweens showed up. They quickly went into the middle of the stream and came out a couple of minutes later with a big fish they had caught by hand, the fish was cleaned right in the water. They made a fire and not long after that had a meal, enjoying a fresh fish. My kids were fascinated and never forgot this afternoon, still telling the story.-
Happy fishing never mind how you catch them.-

I love a woman who can fish! And show those men up! I've been fishing about three times. I was given the rods and reels the people who were with me had. I was six the first time I went fishing. My parents had brought me down to see one of my many cousins and his family. They liked to fish, so we all went fishing and my cousin decided to try to catch dinner. I remember thinking how fun it was. But the last time I went fishing was when I was fifteen. So it has been a long time since I've had the pleasure.

Good morning Ambie, thanks for responding. If u were close we would go fishing. My son has a friend that has a great lake at his house. He keeps it mowed & it's easy to get to. I think that would be sooooo nice to have a lake like that in your back yard.

I used to fly fish for trout and salmon. But never with a cane. I do know that women are supposed to be more successful than men due to their pheromones!! I have even known of one man that tied his flies incorporating a little of his wife's "down below" hair in order to improve his chances!!! It worked too. LOL. The Boss was having none of it.

Antiquelady - I have never fished for bass or other "common" North American fish. But one day...... I can dream. LOL.

Good morning Pike, thanks for responding. I have never fished for either of those, we don't grow those in Tennessee, lol. I have never heard of that but guess if it works that's great but i wouldn't want to be the women that shared w/him. ouch!

I never even heard of a cane pole! I have only used rod and reel myself. I didn't like using live bait either. I have always let someone else clean my fish as well. I like fishing, but I don't like the mess sometimes associated with it. Why haven't you been able to go fishing lately? No one to take you?

Cane poles have been around a long time, can't believe u have never heard of them. I have always used live bait. I have helped clean fish but wouldn't be good at it myself. No, i haven't had anyone to take me fishing in awhile. thanks for responding.

Haven't fished since I was a child. I used a rod and reel when I did. Only ever caught like 1 fish. I accidentally caught a rainbow fish once.. it must have tried to swim past the hook because I hooked it through it's fin. Poor thing. I would love to take my older boys fishing, but getting the equipment is expensive, plus I'm not sure my boys would have the patience for it, they're hyper little guys.

Thanks for responding. I had a friend that had a foster child that was hyper but he really liked to fish. He did better than her real son did, lol. I bet your boys might enjoy it. It would be good for them to be outside doing something. If they are like mygrandson & most kids they don't play out enough. It would cost some money to get started but if they are taught to take care of their things it would last them many years.

Hi, lady....I love to fish. Years ago I lived in Murray, Ky and worked the night shift. When I got off work at 7 a.m. I would drive down to Kentucky Lake and fish at the end of the bridge at Aurora. Didn't have a boat. Didn't need a boat. I fished off the rip-rap right off the point. I'd usually stay til the fish quit biting around 2 p.m. then go home and sleep, cook supper, take a short nap and go back to work.
I used cane poles, rod & reel, bait casters, fly rod..whatever would work for the season it was. I used chicken livers as bait for the catfish during their spawning season and invariably outfished the men who were on the point close to me. I remember pulling in a 10 lb. cat one day and noticed a couple of them inching closer to me to see what I was using as bait. I fished there so often that I learned just where to cast for the spawning cats.
When I lived in So. Louisiana, I fished with an old guy whose wife was in the nursing home where I worked. He had a boat and we went fishing down in the bayou country. We fished for bass mainly down there. The bass fishing called for lures, flies or baits depending upon the season. Minnows were good. And, yes, I always baited my own hook when using live bait. Louisiana has some swell fishing spots.
I guess I've fished just about every place I've ever lived. I used to be that I'd rather fish than eat but did take some sort of eats with me when we went out.
I'd love to go fishing today but guess I'll have to wait a bit. Bass and cat will start biting around here toward the first of May (or when I can smell the honeysuckle; that's usually my clue that it's time to go fishing). So if there is anyone who wants to drop in and give me a haul down to the river or lake or whatever body of water that has fish, I'll be waiting right here for you.

Loved your response, thanks. Murray is about 40-50 miles from here. wish u were still there u could come see me.Sounds like u really love to fish to. I also love to eat them. Catfish is one of my favotites. I like bass etc. but catfish is the best, i think. doesn't everything taste good when u are out like that. I always took something to eat & drink. I don't even eat beanie weanies at home but loved them when i was out like that, lol.Hopeu get to go fishing soon & have real good luck.

We need patient here if you go fishing in a river. Because most of the fishing place is river...Before the river has plenty of fist. Now, due to some greed personality that abuse the environment. Fishing seems to go away and killed due to mines...

Ahh yes it's the start of fishing season. Now if only spring would actually arrive. I've only ever gone fishing once. Someone let me try out their pole but I really had no idea what I was doing and didn't catch anything. lol I can see how enjoyable fishing could be though. Seems like such a peaceful activity.

I have not gone fishing in a long time. I never really have been much of someone wanting to fish even. Now crabbing if my Health was better would be a different story though. But I have never been much good when it comes to catching something. I used to Love to throw them back because most of the time I just would catch the smaller fish as well. But as far as I can remember they were always Rod & Reel.
Sounds like someone is a little jealous is why they never bother to take you with them anymore. Maybe you need to throw in some hints from time to time and hope that he eventually gives in and wants to take you Fishing again.

There she blows! Yup, I can just imagine how you out fished them with their fancy fishing gear. I reckon experience works a whole lot better. Lol. Sounds really fun. Going fishing has been a dream thing for me, and for the life of me it is one of those things I have never actually done my entire life. I hope to finally accomplish that one day. I might take on using just a cane pole like you do. Any great fishing tips for me?

Well for one thing, being in a very small tropical country, our rivers are murky with mud and sometimes doesn't even have that much water except in the bigger ones and some lakes, and those are beyond my reach as they are in the bigger islands very far from me, it costs a lot of money to travel to these parts and yeah well not very safe with insurgents in these areas. lol.

This discussion is so good it brings up memories of my teens years! ...I remember one special Easter[ I was about 18] we went camping in the bush for 7 days...there we were my friend and I trying to catch a fish for dinner...when some one from the other side of the river said they caught this big fish last night[he was actually talking to my friend's father]and I who was hidden by the bush said "that is a lie we only got sardines yesterday! nothing was bitting] OMG we did get in trouble we were asked who said that! of course we did" not know" about any thing! talking about teaching a lesson the next morning I woke up to a big eel curled up next to me on my pillow in my sleeping bag! and yes I like pole fishing and I bait my own hook! I wish I could go back to those days!

Fishing! I never picked you as being into fishing Jo.
I used to like fishing when I was younger. My father had a boat and used to take me fishing sometimes as a child and I also used to go off fishing with friends at times. When I started working, I bought all my own fishing gear and got into it with friends. We used to go in the salt water bays, fresh water rivers and lakes as well as dams.
Then I realised that I was not really into seafood and later gave up eating meat altogether, so I gave all my fishing gear away. I only ever fished with spinning reels and rods, mostly with bait, but sometimes with artificial lures as well. I have never fished with cane pole! I still enjoy being out on the water and relaxing, but I do not fish these days.

Thanks for responding. I surprised u, huh? lol. U could still fish & just throw them back in. I started fishing w/my dad when i was young & have always enjoyed it so much. Haven't got to go much in a long time but this discussion has really made me want to go.Can't find me a fishing buddy, . I even ask the neighbor boy yesterday if he liked to fish & the famous teenage answer came out, lol. It's too boring. I love my cane pole hate a rod & reel, never could get the hang of them.

I would never fish just to throw them back as it still hurts the fish. That is the problem with teenagers today. here is so much visual stimulation around digitally that they never get the chance to just sit and reflect. To them, that is boring. Fishing is a great way to meditate by just taking in the surroundings and listening to the lapping of the water and birds. Great relaxation!
