I just saw a news flash, where it was mentioned, that Shane Warne, has mentioned, that he will be very happy to work with the Indian team as their coach. I was also very excited, when I heard about it, and would certainly welcome such a move.
But my son was against the idea, and he says that the Australians are a crafty lot, and they may try to spoil the Indian team.He cites the example of Greg Chappel and how the Indian team was humiliated in the last world cup, when he was the coach of the team.
Your valuable inputs on this?

Hi Ramesh!
There is no doubt about Shane Warne's coaching capabilities and motivating factor and ability turn guys into champions.
But I have some reservations about him becoming the head coach of Cricket team.
First thing, he is a legend! A magician with ball! and adding to that he will be in limelight no matter what he does. So he ll get more coverage in media than Gary Kirsten did. He ll be under scrutiny from all quarters. And he doesn't shy away from comments and controversies. I think all this might affect to an extent and take away concentration and focus of Indian cricketers.
No doubt Shane is an exciting prospect as a coach of Indian team but it will be having its own positives and negatives!
Happy Mylotting!

Quite right Wismay, that is the main problem. But one plus point, we might get a very good leg spinner, if Warne teaches some of our bowlers in the art of leg spin.

Hello ramesh,
I too saw the news flash on TV on the possibility of Shane Warne becoming the next coach of the Indian Cricket Team. But it is not finalized as yet. There are many faces on the line. And i=until BCCI sits for a meeting and chalk out the final thing nothing is solid now.
They are also thinking of appointing Amarnath as temporary coach for the forth coming Test series against the West Indies.

Mohinder Amarnath is a good choice, for the time being, but I feel India needs a much younger Coach. Someone who is in the early forties. Amarnath should be nearing sixty years, and he may be quite wise, but we need a man who is quite good in technology also, and only a foreign coach will be well versed in technology.

Yes, you said right. Mahinder Amarnath is wise man but so far in the chair of a coach he would not feel so comfortable as he feels as a critic in the studio.
We need people with new technique and novelty.

I personally feel that we should not appoint any Austrailian as a Coach, after the bitter experience of Greg Chappel.

I just want to say it is better for us is to avoid bringing any Australian for our team's coach. Not only Greg Chappel, John Bucchanan in KKR also gave us horrible experience. So better bring someone who is like Gary Kirsten or John Wright who loves to work behind the curtain and less publicity in front of media. Warne himself got included into main controversies regularly so his inclusion will bring controversies as a bonus. He won't able to work politely. He surely get himself into some scandals and also guide the youngsters like Raina or Kohli to lead those life. Even he can destroy the dicipline maintainers like Gambhir or Zaheer Harbhajan. He can clash with ego problem with Tendulkar to whom he got harrashed so many times in his career.

If Shance Warne joins Indian team as a coach it will be great. In my opinion two people are best suited for this job , that is Dav Whatmore and Shance Warne.Shance Warne has a brilliant cricketing mind and i think he was extremely unlucky in not getting to captain Australian team.Actually Indian team needs good coaches both for bowling and batting to maintain their top position in the world.I dont think him being an Australian will not prove to be good for Indian team or any other team. The case of Greg Chappel is special.I am sure many people dont know that before coaching Indian team he was coaching a domestic Australian side who gave their worst performance in Aus domestic competition when Greg was the coach. After his debacle with Indian teams shocking exit from 2007 world cup ,Greg joined Aus as consultant in series against India in India when his presence was all hyped up but ultimately Aus lost the series 2-0 and never looked like winning against India in any of the tests so it was one of their worst performances overseas. Now he is the chief selector of Australian cirkcet and they have lost both Ashes and world cup.So we cannot judge Aus coaches on the basis of Chappel ,Aus bowler Bruce Reid did coach India in the famous series where India managed to stop no 1 Aussies team at 1-1 down under.Shane Warne has already given two players to India in form of Pathan and Munaf, they were average players before joining Rajisthan Royals IPL team but under coaching of Shane warne they were transformed into very good players espeically Yusuf Pathan.Shane Warne always had this great ability to find amazing talents and then to groove them and also he is very intelligent cricketer who used lots of useful tactics to win lots of matches for Aus.I think he is perfect man to take Indian team to next level, that is complete domination just like Australians did .

Thanks for the extra information about Greg Chappel, I did not know that he has failed with so many other teams. Let us hope the Indian board takes a wise decession.

Shane Warne will find it difficult because he cannot stay in the back ground and his approach will alienate the shy and diffident members of the Indian side.Plus his colorful persona will keep him pre-occupied and the team may suffer as a result.
I mean India has had very great coaches in Wright and Kirsten and may not be in a mood to suffer another bloke from Australia.

Shane Warn as India coach is a very good idea. The team India will definitely prosper under him. He will develop the team as he did Rajasthan Royals in first IPL. He has got very good record in developing an English county side also. He may also be able to develop some young leg spinners. India team requires one very badly at the moment.
