Talent Show Auditions tomorrow

I'm going to audition for the talent show tomorrow with my band that includes a drummer and a bassist along with myself (I play guitar and sing). We're going to perform "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana as it is easy and fun to play. There is one problem though: this will be our first time playing in front of others. Are there any tips from experienced mylotters who can help? Where do I look during the auditions? I don't want to stare into the director's eyes (the woman who decides who makes the show) but at the same time if I stare at my guitar I'll seem like an introvert who can't focus on an audience. Any ideas?

Well good luck and I know you're going to do good. When you perform, you need to focus your eye contact to the audience as well as in your guitar. You need to make sure that your eyes does not move in every direction because somehow it will affect your performance. You just need to think that that is your moment and nothing's going to steal it from you. Also when you play the guitar you need to always check if you are hitting the right chords because it happens sometimes when you're really nervous, you are just messing the chords around so be careful especially when you are also singing at the same time. Try practicing it in your own room when you are alone and just feel the moment. Just believe that you can do it! Good luck!

Power to the Power Trios!!! All I can say is, you've practice, you know your song, you know your "act", so don't sweat it tonight. Tomorrow, let the butterflies have their way with your stomach as they please. They become energy when you hit that stage. Don't worry about where to look, just be the you you're great at being. Most of all though, treat the audition like it really doesn't matter. Because in reality, it doesn't. Yes, you want it more than life itself, but what's the worse thing that can happen? You don't get in. Wow, that's it? You still get to live, play and do what you love... you just have to do it somewhere else. Remember that you are "playing out" not "working". This is what you do for fun and what you love. You're not asking them to evaluate you, you're only asking them for a spot in their Battle of the Bands. So don't take any of it personal, because believe me.. they aren't going to care enough to make their decision personal. You got into music to play the songs you love... So play them and love it!

I love "Smells Like teen Spirit" ... it's really fun and addicting at times. Good luck on your audition. You can stare at your audience's foreheads, so it seems like you're looking at the crowd, but not in their eyes, they can distract you. Just enjoy yourself.
