Bugatti Veyron Speed

Does anyone know how much hp is actually outputted from the bugatti? I know they say its well over 1000, but I have never been able to find exactly how much it comes with. This franchise is very well respected and keeps their traditions. Does anyone know anything else the Bugatti likes to keep on the down low?

The BBC "Top Gear" Programme mentioned it as having 1000 HP..and Presenter Jeremy Clarkson,driving it from the south of France to London (Racing the 2 other presenters in a light aircraft!),tried to see how much it would cost to insure the beast for his personal use on the way..he couldn't get a quote for it! (Btw..the Veyron got to London first..)
