does it tick you off when you go to enter a discussion...

...and it's been deleted! People need to get thicker skins.. and a life! If it's a debate, and someone has a good point, better than one's own, I think sometimes someone will try to get the discussion deleted, as for some discussions, I can't see any other reason for it.
- Why do you think there are so many deleted discussions? Answer at your own risk! This one, is certainly against the guidelines but I wanted to post it anyway 'cause I think about it every time I come to a page "discussion deleted".

Discussions are deleted ONLY by employees of MyLot. They cannot be deleted by members who report discussions and nor are they deleted automatically. EVERY deletion is the result of a considered judgement by someone who knows the Guidelines back to front and upside down (as well as the right way up!).
Since humans are human and fallible, occasionally mistakes are made (though remarkably rarely). It is always possible to ask for a discussion to be reconsidered and reinstated (only the discussion owner, really, has the right to do this, however).
So many discussions are deleted simply because people don't read and understand the Guidelines properly or have 'grown into' a misreading of them. This discussion, for example, is NOT (as far as I can see) against the Guidelines ... unless it be a 'duplicate topic'.
What concerns me rather more is that there are still MANY discussions and responses from years ago which really ought to be removed because they are clear Guideline violations. Because they remain, new users, especially, if they come across them, can get the erroneous idea that that kind of discussion is 'OK'.

The above two statements made are truly a matter for concern. I too have noticed this and so doubts arise. When it comes to myLot you are almost infallible and your observations cannot therefore be ignored. So what's up? owlwings? What is the criteria then that some topics glaringly wrong continue to thrive here?

"What is the criteria then that some topics glaringly wrong continue to thrive here?"
More often than not, it is because I have not seen it. The next probable scenario is that it does not violate the guidelines as I interpret them in my capacity as a moderator.

@ GAA - Why should the interpretations of the moderator and that of the user be different if the user also follows the given guidelines? This will discourage a user to report as reporting a wrong topic/discussion would certainly go against the user.

"Why do you think there are so many deleted discussions?"
Because there seems to be a disproportionate number of people who start posting with out reading the guidelines front to back.
"I think sometimes someone will try to get the discussion deleted"
Anyone can try and get a discussion deleted by reporting it. However, simply reporting a discussion does not guaranty it's removal. Every discussion that is reported is viewed by me for a determination. If it does not violate a guideline, then it is not removed.
This discussion is not a total violation, since you asked some very relevant questions that I do not mind answering at all.

Well, personally there are some here, including some I have started that end up getting deleted and it does make you wonder why. Sometimes it could be for it is a duplicate of another discussion, sometimes without the person even knowing it is, or it might be a touchy subject someone feels it not worth discussing in here as well.
Personally there are a lot of times here that I have wished that discussions were not removed here, and can understand why some are, but how can we help each other when discussions that often get removed end up sometimes chasing off some of the regular posters here as well.

If a discussion has been/is removed then it means that admin is doing his job and I am certainly not ticked off by it.
I usally know when I have responded on a topic which will later be removed due to it being a violation and am not surprised when that happens. Indeed I welcome it!
We are supposed to respect myLot surely and that means posting within their TermsofUse.

When veterans respond to a topic that is a guidelines violation it is possible that newbies think that it is not a guidelines violation and may attempt to respond to it. Even Admin may think on those lines. After all they want us to help them in picking wheat from chaff. A day comes when veterans' word becomes law!

A lot of them are deleted because people post referral links, they don't care how many peoples' earnings they hurt as long as they can get their link in there for even a few minutes.
Others are deleted because they are poll type questions.
I wish they would list the reason a discussion was deleted, it would certainly help.
Yes, I'm disappointed when I see something good only to find it gone!

If it's a good discussion, sure I'm annoyed. I've actually gotten a few restored that shouldn't have been deleted. If it's "what's your favorite color", I don't care. I probably tried to respond just to tell the person it would most likely be deleted anyway.

I just blow a deleted answer off, so long as its not offensive. I figure "it's probably not me that flipped the MyLot burger" that day.
~
There's any number of reasons that discussions could flip their burgers. It may not even have been a language issue, or an 'offense' issue. We do have some spammers and script kiddies floating around the community from which MyLot needs to keep us safe. One of them could have gotten into the discussion so MyLot clipped it.

For me, more or less I can pick discussions which will not be deleted. Of course, there are exceptions. I guess it is our choice and hence I am still able to accept that the discussion is deleted. It is still better than having to respond and then get notified that the discussion has been deleted.

Maybe they do try to get them deleted. For the most part, the ones I see that are deleted, are ones that are polling questions. I think if people thought more when they were writing the discussion and getting ready to post it. Why are there so many deletions of discussions? People aren't going by the guidelines!

MyLot administration has been very fair in dealing with my mistakes. I feel their input after the deletion of one of my discussions enabled me to learn and become even more 'successful' in my posts.
But I do feel your frustration. MyLot administration cannot be everywhere at all times. They depend on the eyes of the members to find guideline violations. They tell you this in the guidelines themselves. My opinion is slightly different from the administration, and I've discussed this with 'seasoned' members. I suspect that some members are a little quicker to report some discussion than others. I'm not saying they even do this conciously. It is human nature to go easy on friends and those you agree with. But the fact that some discussions remain, that clearly violate guidelines, while other discussions that address controversial matters get deleted, is a sore spot with some of us nonetheless. It is unavoidable that feelings get hurt over deleted discussions. But MyLot for the most part, more than any site I've used, tries to be fair and encourages those who post to abide by the guidelines. It is the owners perogitive to run the site as he/she sees fit. They pay us, and in my mind that makes us 'employees' so to speak...and them the 'boss'.
