I was playing badminton in the garden with my daughter today. She is 9 years old and i am the dreaded competitive father. We all know how that works. I have to win at everything to teach my daughter some valuable lesson in life that i am not to sure what that lesson actually is.
So i am 47 years of age and i am thrashing my daughter 5-1 by the virtue of power as i smash each shot as hard as i can, thus reliving my youth and feeling superior over a 9 yr old.
Now this is when i think god, or some greek or roman god like Revengious, god of racquet sports, steps in. I lunge to take another overhead smash and trip in a hole, fall flat on my face and pull a calf muscle. The pain is excruciating, my face is grassed stained and my daughter cannot shout my wife because she is laughing to hard.
Do you believe in fate?
Do you refuse to accept old age creeping up on you?
I have to hobble away now, i need some more pain killers.

Have you ever heard of "kismet"??? Kismet may refer to: Fate or Destiny in Turkish and Urdu, a predetermined course of events, from Persian qesmat, from Arabic qisma, lot, from qasama, to divide or allot.
Well life loves taking stinkers like you & showing them where they belong!!! IMHO, you were teaching your daughter how to be a poor loser. There is a LOT MORE to life than winning!!! Technically, you should have been able to win without all the drama & without buillying a 9 year old!!! Being a gracious winner should have been your daughter's lesson for the day...NOT being bullied. You really need to tell your daughter that you were showing off out of fear of growing older & that she really won fair & square!!!! Then followup with an apology for being such a stinker!!!!

And I think you missed the apparent humor in the response!!!

That's not fate - it's Karma!
Serves you right!
How dare you think that the best way of teaching a child to learn badminton is to make them think that you are an Olympic champion?
I'm sure if the neighbours were watching then they would have been laughing with your daughter too!
So was that match abandoned and to be repeated?

So that rules out a return match then
Boxing? Are you recruiting the pom-pom girls?

I know what you mean, I'm also 47 and most of the time I don't feel like it at all.
I sure don't act like 47.
Sometimes my body tells me that I am though when my back is starting to hurt and my feet are killing me.

There is only so much a father can do to show the daughter his superiority and as he ages whether one likes it or not it is time for the roles to change. But nothing like experience to become aware of the situation. I think the saying 'Mind is willing but the flesh is weak' would be apt here.

Did you ever watch The Fast Show when it was on ? You remind me of competitive dad lol.
Fate I am unsure about, some say everything happens for a reason, I am not so sure. Old age does creep up when the years seem like hours, just enjoy the time you have my friend. Hope the pain is not too bad, just don't mix the meds with the JD

As soon as I get old I will let you know which for me my friend.
Serves you right trying to compete with a 9 year old, ha! lol
Do ice the calf and keep it elevated and I suggest you buy a X-box here on in and not risk another fall. Although I think the thumbs might get
sprung.

I started working so early that I lived close with lots of 40 year old women, 35, 60...So they always kept saying when I was 14 to me to enjoy cause this time never come back, I started to enjoy and I saw how scarring it was for them getting old. Then when I turned 16 I decided never to worry about it, since then I don't feel years are passing by, and it's funny there are people that think I'm 12 years younger then what I am. Even I don't feel like I keep enjoying each age. When I turned 28 for example, sometimes I forgot how old I was and almost told people 26 or 7. I never think about it, I think it's a great way to go my dear, believe me I really don't have stress in this area.
