Watching the same movie more than once in a theater.

You know, one thing I do get is rewatching a movie. Just to see if it holds up. However, when it is out in the theater, watching it twice, it might be a bit much, but whatever. Then there are those folks who watch the same movie five, six, seven, eight or whatever times in the theater. That I really don't get. I mean, just wait for the DVD. The turnover between the movie and the DVD is not that long. By then, you'll be able to go into it with a fresh perspective. I think one time is the most I'll ever watch a movie while its in the theater. Two is really pushing it, but I can understand that but after that, it becomes kind of absurd and not to mention costly.

A lot of movies do seem to have a pretty good replay value. Then again, it just depends on how long they can be sustained. The experience of seeing them in person at the theater, is one that I think is only special once, at least to me. Other people will in fact disagree, and that is fine. After all, everyone is entitled to their opinion, with their different experiences.
I think that in the end, movies are going to really be as good as they connect with each individual person. And if they connect with someone again and again and again, it really just shows you how great something like that is. At least these things do make a great connection with an individual or maybe individuals. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

I am a movie fan myself so I've also watched movies in theater more than once. You can call me insane but I used to do it a lot when it was not that expensive back then. Now I can't afford to watch a decent movie even once since going to the cinema turned into a luxury in my country. I rent DVD's or download free movies from the net. In case downloaded movies have no subtitles, I just translate them, do the timing and watch them as many times as I want.

It is becoming rather costly to go even once, indeed. Still there are little tricks that are used, to pull us into the movie. Of course, a measure of a great movie is one that does try and force us to go many times, instead of waiting out for the DVD. Many, many times, I have been sorely tempted. Yet, I have managed to fight off the impulse. Again, I can see why people would do it in one sense, but it does baffle me in another sense. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

There has been only one movie that I have watched more than once in the theatre and that was Titanic which was down to the fact there was nothing else worth watching the 2nd time and so watched it again.
Actaully that is a bit of a lie as a few years back a local cinema did a Godfather movie-a-thon showing all 3 movies back to back and I went to the cinema twice to watch the movie-a-thon. But that for me is different because I rate The Godfather movies highly and are hugely better on the big screen.

I think that there might have been a couple of movies where I gave a thought or two about watching them once again. However, my instincts got the better of me and I decided to wait for the DVD(or the VHS if we are talking about years back). I think that the fact that it got me to consider at least watching the film a second time does speak many volumes.
Then again, these days, my movie watching going has been cut down. It has to take a really good film to get me out of the house. Just nothing that much interesting me enough to go. Some films that I'd like to see, but I'll just wait for the DVD. Its a different time these days for sure. Experiences may in fact vary. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

I have to admit that I have seen movies multiple times in theaters. I think I saw Titanic 5 or 6 times because my best friend loved it so much. I know I saw Tangled 3 times...once was for a friends birthday the other two were just because lol. However, i had a friend see Inception 10 times in theaters. WAY too many times...I only saw it once and I was good. Not one of my favorites but I don't even go see Harry Potter that many times and I love those movies. I just gave her a weird look and shook my head lol.

The Harry Potter example, I've heard many frantic Potter goers. Never mind the fact that the movies personally are not my cup of tea(then again, most movies based on books are not something that I enjoy, because I spend most of my time grumbling about things cut out or changed for no good reason, as opposed to actually watching the movie). Still ten times, that's absurd, but I could have sworn that there was someone who saw the movie a couple dozen times, which has swung so far past insane that its well insane. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

I have done that before when I really liked the movie. But now the ticket became more expensive, so I just watch once if at all, then if I want to see it again I just wait until it comes out on DVD and rent it.

Very true, the cost has become rather steep to even enjoy a movie once. Therefore it is just best to wait for the DVD. Sadly, I think that it is only going to get more costly from here. Making the movie going experience one that is going to really take a toll on the old pocket book. Sad but its unfortunately true to say the least. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

surely buying the film on dvd would be alot cheaper, that way you can watch it as many times as you want.

That is my line of thinking as well. I mean, DVDs, you could watch it, two or three times in a row, or as many as your heart's desire. With no extra cost, just a one time purchase. Then again, there are people who like the experience of seeing it on the big screen, but it never really mattered to me one way or another. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

Hi megamatt, i rarely go to theatres, but if i like the movie and my friends will accompany me then i watch 2 times, but not more than that, i can't watch a movie in a theatre for many times.

It does seem like excess to go more than a couple of times. I can really understand a second viewing. Maybe even a third viewing on sometimes but if you get up there past a certain number, I don't know, I just feel like it is repetitive. Not to mention it can be a potentially wallet draining experience to say the very least. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

This would make me wonder how much moviegoing has changed since the arrival of movies on VHS and DVD..Would people have gone many times to see a particular Movie in a cinema back in the day before home viewing was possible?
Fans of a Movie might argue the Movie screen is the best way to see and get the full benefit of the moviemakers work, not to mention one of the best ways to show their appreciation and give positive feedback on how good a job was done on the Movie..
Box office takings still decide if say,the first movie in a series will get a sequel (or not!),not how many DVD's it sells afterwards..
Yes,DVD sales are important for revenue, but the movie industry does still seem to regard "bums on seats" as the benchmark for how popular a movie has really been..
I personally never really did Multiple cinema visits to see a Movie I enjoyed, and that's covering a moviegoing "career" from Me being taken to the Cinema as a Kid before VHS was launched...I've recently wondered "What if?" about Movies I've enjoyed and only gone to see once that could have had sequels (I'm looking at You,Serenity..) This Movie was based on a TV series that got cancelled, but had enough fan support from its short run and subsequent availability on DVD for those who missed its airing, and A Movie company picked it up for a big screen version..but it seemed to have just gone out to the Fans who remembered and treasured the series, not finding the wider audience it might have deserved..

Well, the price of watching movies has gone up a lot in the years. It was most certainly a different world before VHS came out. Before VCRs and later DVD Players became a staple in the homes of many. I wasn't around in the time before VHS, but I imagine it was a very, very different world. Who knows what movie going is going to be like in another fifteen years. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

Well someone else will pay for the second time LOL..... I agree with you one time in the theater would be enough for me also.....then if I wish to watch again I will wait for dvd or tv...... It does not take them long at all to come on the STRZ channel anymore and I would not even pay for it from my tv if I have seen it in the theater

I think there are many things in life, where if someone wants to foot the bill, I'll happily play along. However, if I have to pay for it myself time and time again, that is really something that I am not going to do. I think that there might be just a little bit better of a turnaround to DVD or on television then there has been in years past. Still a few months wait, but I think for many movies, its worth it. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

I had this college mate who used to watch his favourite actor's movie in a theatre for atleast 5 times ... irrespective of it being a cr@ppy one story wise.Such a great fan he was...kinda crazy from my point of view.I have never watched same movie in a theatre twice ... however i do revisit few classic movies which have been saved in my hard disk.Great day.

Well there are fans and then there are fanatics. What can I really say. Still I really have no problem revisiting movies years down the line. That is actually sensible. It does allow you to get a fresh perspective, to see if they hold up over the years. It is a very intriguing little study to say the very least. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

I go to cinemas a lot...but it's normally only once per movie. I am not excited about the idea of watching the same movie all over again in the theatre but i have watched Spiderman 4 twice. I watched it for the first time with my hubby(then boyfriend) and second time with my little niece. The movie was good, so it was fun.

Yeah it does seem a bit repetitive. Waiting for the DVD to come out. It does seem rather fresh again to say the very least. The same movie over and over again, there are some movies that I can only watch so many times and I don't want to see them ever again. At least for a couple of years, no matter the experience. Then they are fresh again. Such is the cycle of life. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

Yeah some people are like that. As long as its out on DVD, I do see them a lot of the time more. However, not really paying all that much more more than once. Especially if the trip is as far as it tends to be for me. Got to pick and choose my spots rather wisely, like I have been saying throughout this thread. Still I can see why people would watch a movie over and over again, even if I do not really agree with it. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

I agree with your point. Yeah, I think these people just love wasting money on theater. I would wait for the dvd if it isn't really that big of a movie though. But I guess that's just compulsion when your watching it on theatre over and over again.

Yes it is a lot of money after the first couple of times. Depending on your budget, it could be a lot of money for you with the first couple of times. Therefore, see it once, if its good, I'll be sure to get the DVD and be able to watch it again and again, for years to come, with no added cost needed. That just seems like the right direction to go for me. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

I seldom go to the cinema because I enjoy watching a movie in small space with some friends. Many people say that the mood in a cinema is much better, but I prefer this small space that we can pour our heartily sorrow and happiness. Besides, the cinema costs much.

It does cost a lot, well to go anywhere, but also to go to the movies. I think that a lot of people do appreciate the experience, but it is a different experience. I think when I go and see it new, I just get a general idea of the movie, but when its on DVD, I get a different experience, really soaking in the movie and what it is all about. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

Yeah, it happened to us before. Long time ago we had to go to the cinema to watch movies. There were no more other entainment. My parents and I went to watch Superman. It was a great mmovie. We just loved this movie so much and therefore we went to watch it again:) But today we seldom go to the cinema because the ticket is expensive. Besides, today we can have a lot of different entertainment.
I love China

It is a rather costly experience. That is one of the reasons why I don't go all that much any more. Unless it is a movie that I really feel like I have to see. Which tends to vary a lot, from a few movies to not that many at all. Therefore, just got to pick my spots wisely and everything should in fact be okay. Still it does cost some money. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

Yeah theaters tend to be a scattered at best in a lot of place. There used to be a theater really close by here, but it had to close due to business reasons. The next closest one is a bit of a drive and therefore, I have to decide whether or not its worth the trip. There are very few movies that really are going to be worth viewing more than a handful of times. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

I think it all depends on the movie. there are some movies that are not worth the first viewing let alone a second or a third. if the movie is something that captures my interest whether it is storyline or character, i would be willing to watch it in the movie theater more than once.

I think if a movie gets someone like me to even think about it, it does something special. Then again, thinking about a second viewing, thinking about viewing something that you have seen and thus know what's going to happen, it really does say something about how great said movie is. Of course, one must not get carried away. Also, buying a movie on DVD that I already seen in the theater, that is another thing all together. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

Well, maybe that who watch a movie several times in the theater is because liked a lot the movie and is not able to wait 3 or 4 months until the DVD is released. I've watched several movies several times at the theater, and recently I've seen The King's Speech and I really liked and I'm considering go to see it again, I'm not going to wait 3 months for the DVD...

Indeed that does seem to be the case judging by some posts of this subject. I also think that I am really a lot more patient than most, a thought that really does frighten me just a little bit to say the very least. Then again, combined with the fact that the theater is a drive and the need to choose how I spend my money wisely, yeah. I think in the end, I was pushing towards those who are seeing a movie an absurd amount of times. Exactly how many times is absurd, well experiences may differ. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

There is no way I could ever do that. I will go once, and if the movie is good, I will buy the DVD. I think that going twice or more is just wasting money that you could use somewhere else. I would lot rather see every movie in the theater once each, than see one several times, no matter how good it was.

Yeah there are times where I consider it but its not a serious consideration. The movie is good, sometimes there is a great movie or an okay movie that is a fun waste of a couple of hours. After that, if I wanted to check it out, I'd get the DVD. That way, I can watch it again and again, for years, as long as I am going to desire. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.
