Do sit-ups really flatten your belly?

I've read some articles online and they're telling that doing "sit-ups to flatten you belly" is a myth-- they won't really flatten your belly.

I agree with Wiggles and LaDeBoheme, sit ups will not born fat so it will not gonna cause a flat belly. As you said it is a Myth.
For flat belly you need to have low body fat %.
5% for a male, and 11% for a female..
To burn fat you need to do mostly aerobic exercise, long exercise on medium power, like jogging swimming or long walking.
Sit ups is ain't a good drill any more, cause it heart your back, the best is to do it with straight legs and to lift your body only until your scapula are leaving the floor, hold for 5 seconds and relax.
Enjoy :)

I really don't want to do sit-ups because it hurts my neck and back. Thanks for the new technique in exercising. I'll try that.

Most of the people says that sit-ups only build muscles but won't actually flatten the belly. Proper eating habit and doing cardiovascular exercises are the best way to burn fat (eventually flatten the belly). :)

Sit-ups/crunches strengthen the ab muscles, but don't remove the fat layer on top of them. You have to incorporate proper diet and aerobic exercise to help burn the fat off.

You're correct. Doing sit-up alone won't remove the fats from the abs. Happy lotting :)

True, it is impossible to burn fat in only one targeted part of your body at one time. Your body burns fat all over your body at once- so, the best way to burn fat from your belly, would be to do a bunch of cardiovascular exercises and what-not- stuff to get your body burning a lot of energy.

Yeah, you're correct! Doing cardiovascular exercises (with proper diet) is the best way to burn fats.

It's ok. Based from the answer of most of the myLotters, sit-ups just build muscles and won't really burn the fats from our belly :)

Sit-ups work a small portion of your abdominal muscles the only way to "flatten" your belly is with a calorie restircted diet
