Listening or chanting devotional songs early in the morning is quite a refreshing experience. Those who cannot recite those stanzas or scriptures could very well prefer to listen to music being played on the music channels or on hi-fi system or Mp3 players. In any case such a practice quite early in the morning creates an austere aura of delight.More over your prayers would also get answered too. So why not begin such a nice habit right now within the confines of your household. After all nothing is lost in trying to be attentive in good thinking for sometime first thing in the morning. Let the day begin in an elegant mode of pure thoughts.

Your suggestion is excellent sukumar.When i was working in Muscat 3 of us were sharing a room in our office quarters.Since our ofiice timing was at 8 am we would get up very early.Since i was the first to get up i would after my bath switch on my tape recorder an listen to devotional cassettes.My colleagues would then get up and after my cassette was over they would put their devotional cassettes and listen. So our day would start on a very devotional note and we would be humming the songs even when we were in our office.That was a long time back.Unfortunately now because of circumstances i am not able to do it at present.However i keep humming mantras and sometimes bhajans to myself so that my day begins on a good note.And when i am on my computer i listen to devotional songs while doing mylot as i am doing at present while responding to your post.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about praying and singing in the morning. I do enjoy singing hymns any time during the day, and occasionally wake up with a song on my lips at the time I get out of bed. As a semi-routine I say "Thank you God, for bringing me through the night and into a new day." I don't say that every day...just most days. When I don't say it it's because something else is on my mind. On occasion I read from a book of devotions. Now that I've heard from you about the subect, i'm going to start following through more conscientiously.

Singing a hymn for the Lord is part of my daily devotion with God. Before praying and reading my Bible in the morning, I sing a song for Jesus to complete my quiet time with him. Listening hymns in the morning is also good but I prefer to sing the hymn myself because it is one of my ways of praising Him.

Hello my friend sukumar794 Ji,
You have advised a very nice concept to start our daily routine. I bring out following few lines after your Puja to recite.
"GAYATRI MANTRA - ITS MEANING
AUM BHOOR BHUWAH SWAHA, TAT SAVITUR VARENYAM
BHARGO DEVASAYA DHEEMAHI DHIYO YO NAHA PRACHODAYAT.
Summary of the Gayatri Mantra
Gayatri Mantra (the mother of the vedas), the foremost mantra in hinduism and hindu beliefs, inspires wisdom. Its meaning is that "May the Almighty God illuminate our intellect to lead us along the righteous path". The mantra is also a prayer to the "giver of light and life" - the sun (savitur).
Oh God! Thou art the Giver of Life, Remover of pain and sorrow,
The Bestower of happiness,Oh! Creator of the Universe,
May we receive thy supreme sin-destroying light,
May Thou guide our intellect in the right direction.
Gayatri Mantra in Sanskrit
Gayatri, the five-faced Goddess, is said to have domain over the five senses or pranas, and protects these five life-forces of those who chant the Gayatri Mantra. In her role as the protector, Gayatri is referred to as Savitri.
Word for Word Meaning of the Gayatri Mantra
Aum = Brahma ;
bhoor = embodiment of vital spiritual energy(pran) ;
bhuwah = destroyer of sufferings ;
swaha = embodiment of happiness ;
tat = that ;
savitur = bright like sun ;
varenyam = best choicest ;
bhargo = destroyer of sins ;
devasya = divine ;
these first nine words describe the glory of God
dheemahi = may imbibe ; pertains to meditation
dhiyo = intellect ;
yo = who ;
naha = our ;
prachodayat = may inspire!
"dhiyo yo na prachodayat" is a prayer to God
Hence the Gayatri is unique in that it embodies the three concepts of stotra (singing the praise and glory of God), dhyaana (meditation) and praarthana (prayer).
The prayer form of the Gayatri be used to pray to Lord Shiva is called Rudra Gayatri. Similarly, one may sing Ganesha Gayatri for Lord Ganesha, Hanuman Gayatri for Lord Hanuman, and Saraswati Gayatri for Goddess Saraswati.
Origin, Benefits and Chanting of the Gayatri Mantra
The Vedas are widely considered to be the source of all true knowledge, the word "Veda" itself meaning "Knowledge". Gayatri Devi also gave to mankind the "Gayatri Mantra", also known as the "Guru Mantra" or the "Savitri Mantra". It is one of the oldest mantras, and generally thought of as being amongst the highest and most powerful mantras of all. This mantra is therefore often referred to as "the Mother of the Vedas". In the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna had proclaimed to Arjuna - "Among all the mantras, I am the Gayatri".
Thanks.
May God bless You and have a great time.

This is actually something that I've been doing for quite some time and something that I think has helped me out a lot during the past couple of years where we've been going through some tough times in our family. I've several church songs that I really enjoy and though I don't always listen to them, I use them very much as a form of prayer for myself. In fact, now that my children are getting a little bit older, I'm teaching them the lyrics to these songs and it really warms my heart to hear them singing them.

You have a nice post! Yes, listening to devotional music a refreshing experience.
I usually read one verse in the bible, followed by playing guitar and singing devotional song in the morning.
I listened to devotional song before I go to sleep.
