Yup! Got up on St. Patricks day and quit...The thing that bothers me the most is that it hasn't bothered me that much to quit! I mean I thought it would be harder! I have smoked for 42 years and maybe I just got plain sick of the smoke and cost, I don't know but what I do know is that now I will not go back! Have you ever quit something you thought would be very hard to do then found out that it wasn't? Have you ever been a smoker?

I am not a smoker but I am happy that you already quit smoking. Smoking is really bad for our health and I have seen a lot of my relatives got sick because of that bad habit.

I currently am a smoker. I just enjoy it way too much to quit right now. I want to congratulate you for your month without smoking though. That is wonderful. I could quit if I wanted to but right now, that is just not something I want to do yet.

I am amazed at how easy it was....I have not desire to even have one.....but it's tough to change all the habits and I did that before I gave them up...like not lighting up with the phone rang...things like that! I hope you do find the courage to just give them up!

How did you quit? I have tried almost everything and can't quit. Been a smoker for many years and really don't have any health issues as a result even though I know it's not good for me. Good luck and hope you continue to do well and not go back to it.

Am so happy to hear you successfully beat the habit. I haven't tried hard enough or maybe I am just not burned out yet.

I started by cutting back...and cutting back and cutting back until I was only smoking a pack every four days or so....I also changed my routines...like I brought a book to work and now on my break I read as I used to go outside. If you don't change the way you do things it will still trigger your cravings....I don't think I will ever go back to smoking....I really can't believe how easy it's been.

I am a smoker. I smoked since I was in high school. A few months ago, I had quit smoking. I can only survive a month do not smoke. Now I'm back smoking again. I feel very difficult at all,to stop smoking. However, I am a little happy, at least, within one month I managed to not smoke.

No, I've never been a smoker before. My son and I are actually allergic to the smoke and my husband has asthma so he can't be around it too much or it agrivates his asthma. We went over to my cousins house and someone was smoking in their house and my son said, "Mommy I can't breathe. We gotta get outta here." lol He's just little so he didn't know to say it quiet so everyone heard him. But I knew he couldn't breathe cause I couldn't either. That's great that you quit. I figured it would be hard for someone to quit smoking if they had smoked for a long time like 42 years. It's good that it is so easy for you too. Good luck on continuing the quitting. :-)

That's awesome! No, I've never been a smoker. I figured I had enough health problems, I didn't want to add another. Maybe if my family had smoked I might have picked up the habit? I mean my parent's next door neighbors smoke, and I noticed when their kids turned 18 they started smoking too.

Yes..at one time everyone in my family smoked..my dad, mom, brother and sisters, then my kids etc. My one niece and my DIL are the only ones still smoking as of right now. I hope they can both quit!

Congratulations on quitting smoking. I quit around 30 years ago and found no problem at all. As a therapist, I have helped many people quit and what I have found, is that if the come to their own decision to quit and are not pushed by others, then they are ready, and it is these people who do it easily. It is when people feel pushed or that they have to quit when it becomes harder, because they are simply not ready to take that decision totally for themselves. _Derek

Wow jillhill!! That's awesome!! Good for you!! Wow!! I'm STILL a smoker but want to quit so bad but with my nerves as bad as they are, I just can't do it alone. I was on Chantix for a month and it was doing me a world of good till I got so sick and ended up in the hospital for two days. Hubby and I changed doctors before our old one killed us, and I was still getting well and haven't asked our new doctor for a prescription yet but I will. But during that month, I went down a whole carton! That's a HUGE jump start for me! So I want to get back on Chantix soon and I will. Now if my life would get a bit easier or lighten the load some, would be OH SO NICE!

Wow congratulations to you and this is really an achievement! I was a smoker myself and I started way back college. Though I only smoked for about 5 to 10 years but I actually had a hard time letting it go. My motivation is my husband and my daughter. Every time I look at them I kept reminding them that I need to be healthy not just for me but for them as well. I don't want to end up sick in the future and have them worry. It's an achievement that we were able to reach. Let's give ourselves a pat on the back! :)

Way to go! I've been a smoker since I was 14. I quit a few times, but always went back. I'm afraid to quit again now because of how hard it was last time and how much weight I gained. I guess eventually I will..

WTG Jill!!!! I've still not got up the fortitude to quit. I'm getting fed up with the cost now. Only thing is, every time I quit for any length of time, I always gain weight. It wasn't a huge problem but if I stay off of 'em forever, I'll have to find a substitute other than eating. Quitting smoking is the hardest thing I've ever tried to do in my life. When I was younger I quit drinking the hard stuff and that was a piece of cake for me. I decided that I didn't want to become a habitual user and just stopped. I drank a Foster's last week and it made me loopy so I'm not doing that anymore. Otherwise, my vices are none except my computer compulsion. Don't know how I ever went from day to day without it. Stopping that would cause me great grief and I'd probably go into withdrawal. Hmmmmmm....maybe even start drinking again.

Yea! Good for you for not smoking. Some people have a very hard time quitting....you were lucky that it wasn't too hard for you. I smoked when I was a teen, but not very much...and not enough to get addicted to it. I would like to cut down on sweets, but I find it hard if there is something sugary in the house...especially chocolate. Again....great going.

...Hi there jillhill, Congratulations on your success. that is a great accomplishmeent. It is very hard to give up smoking that is why many do not even try to stop. I wanted to tell you about a health food product that could help you as you go along with your goal, it is called DGL. It is a chewable licroce extract that is sold in health food stores. It helps to rid your body of the nicotine that has accumulated. Many people have used it to help them as they stopped smoking. Good luck to you and keep up the good work. Cheers.
