can one work online if they are on h4 visa in US?

I think she should be able to join, earn and get paid. I am not 100% sure about it but it seems to me like she would be able to do it without any problems.

She can work online as far as she has the site requirements. I hope that that visa type restricts casual working alone.

Unfortunately, your friend's husband correct. The law clearly states that family members in the H4 Visa category cannot engage in any form of employment. Now she is allowed to get a driver's license and she is allowed to do volunteer work without pay. This is something that could keep her occupied during the day AND if she does a good job it could possibly lead to the agency she volunteers with wanting to hire her. In that case, she and the potential employee, acting as her sponsor could applied for an H-1B visa which would allow to work in the U.S. There is a "gray area" she could possibly play in dealing with these "pay-to" sites but it's probably not worth the risk of getting deported and separated from her husband over something stupid. There are also plenty of chat forums out there that don't pay she could join to keep busy as well. One last piece of advice to pass on. Never, NEVER keep any secrets from husband. Tell her to let him know how she's feeling. Tell him she's bored sitting around all day. If I was her husband, I would find something legal for her to do! Maybe he would feel the same way. Cheers!

hello akan sis, If you have checked about the situation and nothing it wrong,then maybe your friend can open an account without her husband's knowledge. I know this is not right,like keeping secret with the husband or not following husband's rules or words. But,she's too bored and the only means to have some inter-action is joining here in mylot since the time zone difference in her home is also a problem that she can't talk with her family. I am not sure if this is right,but it there is nothing wrong...i guess she can join without her husband's consent... just my opinion.
