Is Laughter the best medicine?

Well not in my case!
I have been suffering a severe case of man flu for about a week now and I have been taking every concoction there is to try and clear it up. Nothing has worked, so I thought I would turn to laughter. Nope, that has done nothing to shake off my symptoms of feeling miserable and yuck. I have had my favourite comedy DVDs out and even such classics as Fawlty Towers and Dad's Army haven't sorted me out.
If laughter isn't the best medicine, what is? I'd appreciate any help here.
Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Bluedoll
I posted this what seems like eons ago and I guess it is about time I posted a new one, especially as my time is limited. I will have to think quick, but if I don't appear again, I guess you'll know why.

I applaud you first off, in actually admitting you get man flu. This is a rare occassion, men refuse to admit such and it should be noted aha!
My nan always gave me a glass of warm lemonade when I was growing up and would get a cold. I think the logic was along the lines of lemon and honey. I think she actually believed it work though.
I don't think laughter is the best medicine, I do however think it makes the journey a more plesent one.
Get well soon =)

Hi tiggerific :)
I see you too have reached 100 and gained a magnificent 8 star rating. Well done!
Yes, I admit I had man flu, but although I am rarely without pain, I hardly ever complain. It's all cleared up now and I did honey and lemon a try. Whether it was that or it had just run it's course I'll never know. :/

As the romancing sage said, Its all in the mind honey!
Well, mister what you need is a complete makeover of your mind. And maybe lot of rest will help? Give it time to reboot while you're in cloud cuckoo land?
Often a good rest is the best cure, and then try healthy supplements like laughter, maybe a little bit of the dirty old man bit?
All de best, young dirty ole man!
No offense intended (But what the hell, even if it's offensive can we really do anything about it except complain to the mylot authorities?)

Aw, shame, you did have a bad case of man flu. I will give advice for any future bouts @Orson_Kart . Vitamin C tabs, drink lots of fluids and chicken and veg soup.

@bluesa Do you have a favourite episode? I love them all, so it's hard to choose. The one where he thrashes his car with a tree branch is tree-mendous.
I might have to watch them all again to decide. Difficult.

I know I am almost thirteen years too late with responding to this, but I have unsuccessfully tried laughter, too. I think there are certain viruses we simply must ride out until they have run their course.

Hi Chelé,
It’s never too late, especially as I thought I was dying 13 years ago. I am still here, so that can only be a good thing. I’ve got through a number of viruses since then, including covid, so I must be a tough old soldier. I still like to look for fun in most things, but it’s getting harder. The finding I mean

@Orson_Kart Yes, it has been getting harder, and that would stop if people would get over themselves, stop being offended and cancelling everything they find offensive.

Hi Hatley!
I had forgotten about this and thankfully I am well over my problems. I am sorry you have been suffering, but at least it's not man flu which is far worse, as every man knows.

take vitamin C, fluids, fruits, and rest... though laughter really makes one feel 'good' inside, it is considered as the best medicine since it is free, stimulates circulation, releases tension in our face muscles..

Sounds like good advice and I have been following it bar the rest. I have a 4 day break from work so I will chill and hopefully it will do the trick. Ta!

Laughter lessens pain, increases job performance, connects people expressively, and improves the flow of oxygen to the heart and brain. Laughter establishes an optimistic emotional climate and a sense of connection between two people, In fact, some researchers think that the major function of laughter is to bring people together. And all the health benefits of laughter may merely result from the social support that laughter stimulates.

A temporaly change in life style might help, redecorating your home, sports, a holiday,..... If Fawlty Towers is your -or better, was your favorite comedy, how about getting hold on to one of the Monthy Python's classics? That might cheer you up sufficiently to drag you out of the self-distructive down swing caused by flu. If nothing helps, get drunk with your mates. A night out with them might put an en to your influenca.

Aparantly Laughter uses less muscles that a frown by 5x so it is healthy for us. Perhaps rather than seeking the true comedians we should attempt to laugh at ourselves, simply by looking in the mirror and pulling strange faces at ourselvees. It may help to imaging that we are trying to make someone else laugh while we do this, so the focus is taken off ourselves.
It might be worth a shot just make sure you don't let those frown lines get away with it.
Good luck!!!

Man flu? Never heard of that but laughter is ment to get you in a better mood, not to treat you fully.

Yes, man flu is a terrible affliction we men in the west have to suffer without any sympathy from the womenfolk. They might consider it a touch of the sniffles, but we know it's worse, much worse and we need loads of tlc.

The thing is when you laugh at that moment you don't remember any problem
