Tonight, Our beloved Peanut got hit by a car and was killed. She was a good dog, and will be missed oh so much. As the tears stream down all I can feel is sadness and anger. The person who hit her didn't even stop!! If it wasn't for our good friends coming by I wouldn't of even known she was out there on the road. Our pets are like our family, and it is a great loss to our family. It truly amazes me how heartless people are! My husband is at work so I am home to deal with everything right now. I think the saddest moment is going to be when my daughter asks where her puppy is. It just breaks my heart that this happened. I blame myself because I was the one who let her outside, and now she is no longer with us. My heart is broken.
How do you deal with the loss of a pet? If you hit someones pet would you stop?

Hi tib0822
I'm sorry for your loss. I know how it feels like losing a pet cause I have experienced it before. It really is sad. When driving, I would always slow down whenever I see something in front of me, even pigeons because I don't think I have the heart to drive over them. Don't blame yourself too much because accidents happen.

We have always had pets and somewhere deep down we know they will be with us for a short while. The parting is unbearable but life has to go on and time heals everything. We have had so many pets who lived with us up to their life span but some went early due to some ailment. No regrets as we always do our best to love them care for them and return their unconditional love. You too will get over it.

Hi, tlb.....I am so sorry for your loss of your Peanut. I know what you are going through. I have had many pets over my adult life. This happened to me also when I had one of my first dachshunds. I let her out in the community where we lived. Everyone around the area knew BeBe and that she went out occasionally. Some guy came around the curve and hit her. I heard the thump and immediately knew what had happened. I went out and she was lying in the yard. The guy did stop and asked if there was anything he could do. I was so shaken and angry that all I could tell him was for him to just go away. She had been with me for over 10 years and I was devastated. It took me a long time to deal with the loss and I finally did get another dashchund, four of them. They weren't allowed out of the house without my supervision.
I don't think it does any good for us to blame ourselves. Things like this happen and we just have to deal with them and go on. Hopefully you will be able to someday get another pet. I've lost several pets since BeBe and always get another even though I say I won't immediately after they're gone. Our pets are part of our families and the grief can be immense.

You have my full sympathies on the loss of your puppy. I had the same thing happen to me with a lab pup in MT. I let her go to run and she instead heard a car and went to investigate and I heard it..........it was our neighbor and he was kind enough to stop and tell me and he even brought his back hoe to bury her.
To this day, I blame myself and have taken precautions on the new lab we have to keep her safe.
It's hard to do when they want to run and play.
Yes, if I hit an animal I'd stop and tell them. This has happened and there is no explaining the incident but it was an accident.
The people who hit your dog should be shot..........I doubt you'll ever know who it was tho.
Just take time to grieve like you would a person cuz animals do become our family.
You might consider haveing a small ceremony for your family to understand that the puppy is really gone and she /he is in Heaven with other dogs romping and playing.
It really does help esp. the kids.
God Bless you and take care,
quita

I am so sorry for you and your familys loss. I am sure Peanut was a wonderful pet. I loathe people that were so heartless that they couldn't even stop to let you know.
