One Sided Love

I have this rooster who is getting on in age. He is about 10 years now but in these 10 years he has not shown any affection towards me but a lot of cooing and wooing will go on when he sees others around. It is I who will be doing all the chores. Being old he is not so mobile. I do some physiotherapy for him, carry him in and out of his pen, feed him and do all that is required to care for a pet but alas in return I get nothing. Yet I love him so dearly. His mere sight gives me a lot of happiness. Have you had any 'one sided love' experience may be from pets, children, parents, et al?

I don't think chickens have the brain capacity to do anything other than eat and reproduce. You sure chose the wrong sort of pet there, allknowing, if you were wanting love returned.
All my pets have been cats and dogs. (I did have a parakeet when I was a kid but he didn't live long and definitely was not capable of 'love'.) And cats and dogs can certainly return affection.
I think we've all experienced a one-sided 'in love' relationship with another person. I did and finally decided to let it go when I saw that it was doing me more harm than good.

I should have explained about this particular breed in my topic. This breed likes human company. When my maid used to sit to study for her exams this guy would jump on the table and sit on her books and be there till she finished. I can quote several examples how he has preferred others around him and not medespite all the care I give him. And incidentally I am a pet lover and have had several dogs and cats in my life. I now have a dog who as you say knows how to show love.

You have a ten year old rooster? You must be amazing with animals! I'm sure he does love you, just that he knows you will put up with the way he is. He is different around others because either he doesn't think he can get away with antics with them or doesn't know. Of course chickens are capable of expressing love. An animal does not have to be particularly intelligent to feel love.

But I love him and enjoy doing those chores every single day. Here is a video clip on him. I have quite a few on him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OuF91R21Ko. This was taken when he was younger. Now he limps and he needs to be carried around!

Sorry this just made me chuckle. how exactly can a rooster show affection towards you? Alto physiotherapy for a rooster? :)
I guess the rooster just doesnt think you look enough like a chicken to coo and woo over. I wouldnt take it personally.
I've experiences a one sisded love exprience once. i was stupid and desperate for affection. Seems like I could be in the same situation again now though...

The very way it shows when others are around. In my case he even comes to attack me. But that does not deter me from doing my duty towards this pet. I have to physically move his limbs several times so that he gets some exercise.

Laugh and the world will laugh with you. Cry and you will cry alone. Those who have not had pets will certainly find this funny! What I wanted to know was whether you have experienced any one sided love!

Hi there, i don't have any experiences with rooster, so i don't know if they are able to show their affection like other pets. We had this dog two years ago. She was a German shepherd. I really loved to play with her, take her out to the park and even feed her. Her name was 'Timmy'. Every time I called her name and asked to come to me, she would just turn her head and go to my sister. This used to really piss me off. She never came to me when i called her. I always felt she never understood my love.
Then i left my parent's house and came to Australia. When i went back to home after two years, I was so happy when she actually came to me running without me having to call her name. She played with me and remained with me all day. Awww, she is so adorable. I thought it was a one sided love but now i realise that she loved me back equally.

This particular breed is capable of showing their likeness by the way they behave. In the above box I have explained it all. So in your case if was not one sided love. Good for you. All my other pets have always shown that they care but only this guy despite the lot I do for him he ignores me!

Yeah its a pain and as well ecstasy in a way for having to love someone even when you know they can't love you back the same way. But, what i feel is, its good that you atleast love someone.
