For ages now, we've all heard that "The Number of the Beast," said beast being Satan's Anti-Christ, was 666. Now comes a newer, "more accurate" translation that says we've had it all wrong, that the actual number is 616. All this time, the number was inflated! For details, click on this link: http://www.religionnewsblog.com/11134/beasts-real-mark-devalued-to-616 I am the last person who takes God trivially, so I really don't mean to offend, here, but, I dunno...I just found this whole thing a hoot. Anyway, 666 or 616...what? Sins the A-C will have committed before he becomes known for what he is? Laws he'll break? Churches he'll destroy in one week? Hat size? What?? Anybuddy know? Hi, Maggie....This new 'revelation' now actually kind of upsets me. If the earliest translators got this wrong, makes one wonder what all else has been mistranslated. If a person doesn't read Greek or Hebrew, how are we to trust what we're reading as a true translation? And I wonder why this little anomaly is just now coming to light?

Interesting article, but it left me in a little confusion. Like you, I wonder what they think about it. Was it Nero? Is the Book of Revelation a political statement? Is the number of the beast a Greek puzzle? Or, as others have said, a Hebrew puzzle? There are many, many theories and teachings, but I don't think anyone knows for sure.

Maybe, maybe not. Ultimately, I can't see that it matters if one simply believes in God. The "Evil One" loses end the end. I know. I read The Book! Maggiepie "Science without religion is lame, & religion without science is blind." ~ Albert Einstein

TYPO: That should have read: "IN the end"...not "end the end." Maggiepie "Science without religion is lame, & religion without science is blind." ~ Albert Einstein

LOL. Who really knows what the numbers truly are? Sometimes I think things are made up or changed so many times that no one really knows anymore.

Maggiepie, I just read the article and at first I thought it was a joke. I also think about how many things have been changed over the years in the Bible for political reasons, or just errors. And Revelations being written in such coded texts. I don't know what to think, but it is definitely interesting.

The article is a great read. Its really interesting that the book of revelations may be coded in such a way. I for one believe it as the most illustrated portion of the Bible. It would seem like it is another Da Vinci code for us. But 616 or 666, Nero or not the main lesson that we can pick from it will never change. It portrays the beginning of the end of human time, and a grand clash of good and evil will start. It is a manifesto of the good and evil that we experience day to day in our life. It is a dramatic way to say that if you choose evil nothing ever good will happen for you, and that you would be punish in the end. The only thing we can do is believe in God. The rapture may never come in our lifetime or it may come tomorrow. But as long as we believe. 666 or 616 it doesn't matter what the number of the beast will carry. As long as God is number 1. Great Read. It makes me want to read the whole book again and look for the codes myself.

Well, I don't buy into codes & all that. Most of the books, letters, poems, genealogies & other texts of the bible are fairly plain-spoken, & those which aren't only need the Holy Spirit to understand. There's no need to make it complicated. That said, I agree with your statement re God being Number One. That really is the most important thing we must learn!
