ran away from a very expensive restaurant

Haha. I'm alreaady smiling and laughing a bit by just remembering the situation that I'm going to write about. Writing has become my passion these past few days.
So here goes.
After we had submitted our bound thesis on the last week of March, my adviser and all of her advisees, (which includes, me, thelaundrybuddy and madmarycash and other good friends of mine) decided to go out and celebrate. When we were all there, our adviser asked us where we wanted to eat for dinner. We couldn't decide until finally one of my friends suggested FishNChips (or something like that). My adviser agreed and so we went there.
When we arrived, we were still so happy and very talkative, excited to eat to our hearts' content. We even asked the waiters to put together the two tables so we could all fit in. Of course, after that the waiters gave us the menu.
Before this all, I actually had a hunch that our adviser would be the one paying for our food so I looked for something that wasn't really that expensive. During that time, I think others were doing the same. Minutes passed and we continued flipping the pages of the menu over and over again. Haha. As you have already guessed from the title of my discussion, there wasn't anything that was considerably okay in terms of price. So when our adviser asked us what we wanted, we couldn't give her an answer. Of course, we wouldn't let her pay for a very expensive meal. Just the soup alone costed around more than 100 php. Oh wait, actually, one of my friends didn't think that our adviser was going to pay so she casually said "something something salmon", which alone already costed 500 php and was good only for one or two people. We were kind of in an utter disbelief at her but we just kept silent (right the laundrybuddy?).
Deciding that I didn't want our adviser to pay for such an amount, I gathered up my courage to be the one to suggest that we go to another restaurant (less expensive ofcourse). My friends and adviser all agreed. The dilemma was, we didn't want to go out of the restaurant because there were only a very few people and it would be quite embarrassing to do so. We were kind of scheming on a plan about how to go out of the restaurant. Some of us even joked around that we would excuse ourselves to go to the CR one by one. haha.
Anyway, me and my two amigos decided to start it off and as we stood up, I kind of felt like my face was getting warm. Without warning, we sort of rushed through the door and ended up laughing when we reached the outside. It was kind of embarrassing to be honest, but IN NO WAY WERE WE GOING TO LET OUR ADVISER PAY FOR SUCH AN EXPENSIVE RESTAURANT.
Remembering it just really makes me laugh.
If you're wondering where we ate as an alternative, we ate at a Thai restaurant and the food was really really good and not much expensive. Haha..
Have you had a similar experience? Common, tell it and keep me posted! :)

Like the other responders, I thought that you ran without paying. I would certainly not have run away in your case : I would have just say that we have changed our mind. It cannot happen in my country, because there is always a carte outside, so you know the prices. But when the service is too long, and I have to wait a hour for a dish, I stand up and I go away without paying. It is not a custom, as I prefer to find a good restaurant, but I have done this three times in my life.

I've done that once. We were left waiting for more than an hour for a simple order, so I told them not to bother and I just left. I didn't feel bad about that. How can they expect a hungry person to wait more than 1 hour for the food?? Unthinkable

wow! THat's some guts you have there man! I salute you! I could never do the same thing. Sure, maybe I'd raise my eyebrows during follow ups but I don't think I have the guts to do what you did!

utter disbelief huh! come on! i was really just kidding around. hehe. i didn't think our adviser would pay and i was kinda ready to spend some money for that salmon and probably split it with someone else but come to think of it, it was overpriced.
a similar incident happened to us in baguio city. my friends nikki, linelle, eunice and joyce were looking at a nice place to eat lunch in. some restaurant that would complete our Baguio experience. and when we found one, we comfortably settled in and read the menu. then, due to overpricing or maybe lack of budget, we suddenly rushed out with eunice acting so sneaky and suspicious. we didn't turn back haha. good thing we ended up in a nicer restaurant, and the food was delicious and affordable.

Hahaha! Yep, utter disbelief! You looked way serious during that time. Haha. Anyway, I didn't know about your incident in Baguio. Haha. By the way have you decided yet?

Hahahaha! Our friend madmarycash here didn't think that our adviser was going to pay. Anyway, she doesn't need a treat cause she's usually the one to treat us.

When I read the title I thought you were going to write that you had skipped out on the check. Then I would have called you a thief . If I'm not too sure if I want to eat at a certain place I will ask to look at a menu first. Then if I see it's too expensive I will leave. I've never been seated then decide to leave.

It was a case where I wasn't the only one that had to decide. When my classmate suggested the restaurant we thought the place wasn't that expensive. Unfortunately, hahaha.. well you know what happened.

Like dreamy, my first thought was you had run out after eating!!! That would have been, yeah...really bad.
I haven't had to run out, but almost did. When we were students, we always pick a place we know we can afford. There were times when some friends insisted on going to a costlier place, but I usually tell them about my cash problem, sometimes they float me, sometimes we go to a different place.
Just a few weeks ago, I almost skipped out from a 5 Star hotels. Not because of the menu price, which I already know before; but after they seated us, they informed us that there was a new rule that they are implementing that there was a cover charge of Rs. 2500 per person. I hated that, and I told my husband we should just go somewhere else. But then we were with a guest and she was absolutely delighted to be able to dine there, and well, we were already there. That and the fact that our order would probably come to that anyway, made us stay. I hated when they do that. If they didn't tell us that, we'd probably order more than their cover charge. After they told us, we were really conscious of the cover charge, and there was the sort of mental thing that we have to order a certain price, which I didn't like. I don't mind the price, but I hated having to think about the price while eating.

hahaha. I understand what you feel. Most of the time when someone treats me, I usually consider the price because I feel like I shouldn't order such expensive meals.

Good thing you were able to go out of that restaurant. You all could have paid a hefty sum of money and maybe don't have enough with you that night.
Perhaps next time, you can more or less gauge how much eating in this and that restaurant costs, so you could setlle for one that will suit your budget.

We had a hunch that our adviser was going to pay for the restaurant and we thought our classmate knew the cost of the restaurant so we just settled for her decision at first. However, when we saw the menu, we became really skeptical.

HAHAHAHA! I remember it all too well! Our awkward silence while waiting for someone to bravely ask to go out or someone brave enough to actually order! Our adviser's face and her silence while looking at the selections and their corresponding prices.. Its all too funny!
Even funnier was our collective reaction when madmary blurted out that she wanted to order the salmon. Haha. Truly PRICELESS! (in all sense of the word)
