http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/04/23/fbi-man-seeking-ohio-job-faked-army-general This news item really ticks me off!!! A 57 year old man who lives in West Virginia applied for a job paying $175,000/yr with a construction company located in Akron, Ohio. He didn't have the qualifications required for the job, so he falsified his resume...even going so far as to say he was a Major General in the US Army in the process of retiring who had served in several wars & supervised 17 multimillion-dollar construction projects around the world. He gave as a reference the Army Chief of Staff. He also wore a military uniform to one of his interviews & had the construction company flying him in at their expense. According to affidavits the company also received calls from people identifying themselves as Gen. George Casey, then Army Chief of Staff & Gen. Peter Chiarelli, Vice Chief of Staff. That's when the construction company became suspicious of his resume & contacted the FBI. He was arrested yesterday & charged with wire fraud. He has a hearing scheduled for this coming Tuesday. It just infuriates me when somebody pretends to be a member of the military & I find it exceptionally objectionable in this case!!! Personally, I think he should be charged with Treason as that receives one of the toughest sentences in the US!!! I don't think he deserves a break in any form or fashion!!! Now, I feel the need to ask, what do you think should happen to this man as punishment for his dirty deeds???

It seem as if you are really ticked off but from my perspective, I really don't believe he should get that much punishment as what you said. To me i feel he should have gotten the least amount of punishment. I believe people need chances for once. Then just giving a false resume shouldn't really require that much punishment. Here is the reason why I actually say such a thing. I have seen cases before where people I know also do that. I know it is wrong yes. But to my surprise the person went into a field that he wasnt really qualified for. It wasn't a job though it was just some studies. After going into that field, the person graduated with the highest score overall. What I am trying to say is that sometimes you need to be given a chance to excell. Business and school etc will look at your past to see how your charecteristics are, but they never look at you presently. For that reason I just feel that even though it is wrong, you shouldn't get no where near the maximum sentence for it. I hope you understand what I was trying to get at.

It seems to me that you are still young enough to think it OK to lie, cheat & steal...well I don't!!! I'm not upset because he lied on his resume. I'm upset because he lied about being a member of our honorable military personnel!!! I am PROUD of EVERY member of our armed forces & it makes me sick that he thinks so little of those who give their lives to protect us!!!! I do understand what you're saying about a young person trying to make it through school. However, this man is 57 years old & he got out of school a long time ago!!! He's old enough to know that what he did was wrong!!! He was being greedy & having NO experience in the job he was trying to get, it wouldn't have been long before he got fired!!! With all the people out of work here, I find it even worse that he was taking a decent job off the market for somebody who was qualified to do it!!! He lied on his resume & in his interview. He cheated when he had somebody place the phony phone calls pretending to be high military officials. And he stole when he had the company pay for his airfare & his other expenses. It's NOT acceptable here to lie on a resume & you shouldn't just accept that your friends are liars either!!! It is WRONG no matter how you look at it!!!!

I can tell you are pretty ticked off about this. I agree what the man did was absolutely wrong, and I feel it is very unfair to the other people who need a shot at a job. However, you have to consider the fact that the economic times are very tough. People are losing jobs here and there, and people need money. He did, however, get greedy and went too far. There are two sides to every story, this is no exception. What he did was definitely wrong. I think he should get in the ballpark of 20 years in prison. That is just about the rest of his life since if he were to get 20 years, he would be 77 when he gets out. So 15-25 years is reasonable in my opinion.

YES, I'm ticked!!! I'm totally PO'd that he felt it was OK to dress as & pretend to be a member of our fine military in order to steal a valid job. I know how bad our economy is & there are MANY honest & deserving people looking for jobs; but he is NOT one of those people!!! It's MORE than unfair to others needing a job. It's stealing plain & simple!!! I feel he should get more than 20 years for betraying our military & our country!!! He's old enough to know better!!!

Wow!! This one is unreal. Why would someone go to an extent like this to lie about who they are, and what type of work they have done, etc? And to think there are so many genuine people out there needing work, who cannot find it. I really hope that they do throw the Book at him and that he gets fined with Treason, etc. I hope they also catch the others who were doing all the calling and lying for him and charge them as well.

He seems to be dumb enough to make those other calls himself thinking he could change his voice good enough nobody would notice. It bothers me that he took a job from a qualified person that he was NOT qualified to do; however, it really pissses me off that he posed as a General to give himself the upper hand!!!!

I cannot believe that anyone would excuse something like this as I've read in this discussion. I think it should be against the law to falsely claim military service as some politicians and many civilians have done but unfortunately, it is not. I would like to see a penalty for that. Perhaps attaching the person to a real soldier and requiring them to shine his or her boots, protect them during missions, act as decoy so the real soldier could be safe, bring them their meals and wash their laundry. I think a year of this might convince them that they could never be the upstanding person a soldier is, and perhaps inspire them to aim high. Falsely claiming military service is right down there with stealing purses from old ladies.

You & jyaegel think a lot alike!!! And I love BOTH ideas!!! Some of those who are so understanding are young & not from here, so they cannot possibly understand what I was saying as they don’t respect the military in their country!!! I believe the others are just very immature in their thinking. I do NOT understand how anyone from the US can even remotely think it is OK to fake a military career!!! I agree that it should be illegal to impersonate a military person, but our court system would NEVER let that happen…and that is one of the best & worst things about living in this country!!!!

Hi LadyM! I am definitely all for the most serious form of punishment they can give him and there are quite a few to pick from! You can be sure that this azzhole will spend a great deal of time in some Federal Prison! I don't know how the phuck he thought he could get away with something that serious and not think that someone at some point would become suspicious! He will be spending multiple sentences, if I still remember my days working for a "Criminal Attorney"!

That's encouraging Les!!! One person felt he should only get 20 years. Now I'm thinking 20 years on EVERY count he is charged with!!!!

Serving our country in the US army before and serving it honorable. I think we should give him his with. Dress him up in full uniform in the middle of Iraq or Afghanistan and then put cameras on the man from about a half mile away. Televise it on a pay per view channel and let us see how he makes it out. If he makes it out put him back in the 5 more times and then if he makes it out enlist him for a 20 year contract and then and only then allow him to go free. OH and by the way give him a weapon with only 2 bullets that way he can fire at them and well guess what he shoots twice and then has to see what it feels like to fight with no food and very little munitions.

Land of the Free & the Home of the BRAVE!!! - THANK YOU to our brave military!!!
SALUTE!!! FINALLY, somebody with good sense!!! Actually, I like your idea BETTER than mine!!! That's one Pay-Per-View I'd gladly spend my money on!!! I don't think that if you gave him a million bullets that he could make it out on his on!!! To jump off topic for a moment...THANK YOU for serving your country!!!! I see that you want to re-up but are a bit out of shape. Might I suggest you casually walk around the block for a few days. Then power walk around the block for a few days. Then do a leisurely jog for a few days. Then a power jog for a few days. Then try running increasingly faster & faster until you reach your goal!!!

He could face charges of Mail Fraud if he mailed his resume. He is facing charges of impersonating a military officer, I think that is a Federal Crime. He could also face theft charges for the cost of the trip and meals. He should serve his time just like anyone else who did such a thing.

i do respect army coz of them we do sleep in our home.while we are sleeping they do their job so we can stay fearless. i want him to punish but, there must be a reason behind his activity, coz every coin has two sides so we have to listen to his side too,why he did so ? without knowening anything we cannot give the judgement or hard punishment,he must be compell to do that or he must be in need of job to fullfill all needs of his family otherwise why someone will do like this crime in this age

So, you think it OK to lie, cheat & steal as long as you can justify it in your own mind??? With that thinking we would need NO laws nor law enforcement!!!
