Old monitor?

Anyone still have the old monitor type, the one with a curved screen and box shaped.
I was wondering if there are private schools that still uses that. Because I've heard from my sister that they still use that on their computer subject. There were researches that said the light emitted by those type of screens are 10x more harmful than flat screen led-type of monitors.
Is it worth investing in new monitors for the sake of eye's health?
So far I know there are no more box-type monitors that are sold in most computer hardware stores.

CRT/Cathode Ray Tube monitors or those curved screen types have lots more radiation than new monitors (LCD, LED, plasma). I remember during the 90s that we even used those protectors hanging down on those monitors. It sure is a lot better to invest in new monitors for the sake of eyes' health. Monitors can be easily changed while eyes cannot. Also, you'll save a lot from electricity bills and you'll also be able to help the environment with new monitors that consume less energy. I suggest you either buy LCD or LED (although I like LED more, less risk for the "burn" effect in LCDs where there are images left on the screen because it was displayed for too long. In my opinion, LED displays looks a lot like CRTs more than LCDs). I've read somewhere that the plasma monitors consume more energy and they're more expensive so it's best to not buy them.
I hope these would help, have a nice day!

You're welcome, I'm glad to be of help.
I've been searching about power consumption online and so far, LED saves more energy than LCD. I've also read that LED bulbs last longer than LCDs so that is a plus. The only downside of LED is that it's more expensive than LCDs but in the long run, LED will still save money because of lower electricity bills.
Yup, plasma consumes more energy because it makes use of heat or something like that to create the images/display.

Thank you very much on the details, hopefully the recommendation on using LED screens would be convincing for those computers in my old high school. It has been around eight years since I saw those computers, and I'm sure there are funds for those improvements. I have little knowledge about techie stuffs so I'm really grateful for your help.

Thank you for the terms, I was driving myself nuts remembering the terms.
Which saves more energy, LCD or LED? It would be nice to give an opinion to my sister's school so that they would change those CRT monitors.
Thank you also for the advice about plasma monitors, I'll tell my dad later so that he'll think twice in buying tv and monitors.

In my school, we still use those old monitors. I hate them to be honest...
I remember those old dinosaurs, they were sometimes so heavy.

Oh I remember having them at school too. But I don't know whether they still have it because they don't allow guests to enter the main building. I lost my very old ID on that very old elementary school so I can't really know what's inside that really old building anymore. lol, I feel old already T.T..
Anyway, I hated them for being heavy too because there are broken monitors that needs replacement. I always wondered why it isn't the teachers that did that difficult task (we were only ten by the way..)

Why do you keep them unused? There are parts that can be sold at a reasonable price and can be recycled into something better.

Oh, I didn't knew that cellphones are more harmful than computer monitors. I'll inform my friends so that they'll focus less on their phones.

hi oxyde_gyabo... I heard a lot about the danger of new monitor instead the old monitor. new monitor is absolutely worse for eyes healthy. BUt, on the other side, old computer feel like not comfort anymore and had a lot of weakness compared new monitor. I prefer new monitor, because I feel more comfort use it and have good appereance. However, to keep my eyes healthy, I will take a break every 1 - 2 hours and rest my eyes -I close my eyes and massage it with my finger softly. It's help!!

Hi redvakaurvaki! I never heard that new monitors are worse. But I do agree that it's good to rest once in awhile. I rest every half an hour. It is said that eyes gets more rest when you look at objects afar because the eyes are free from focusing short-range. Also, don't wash your eyes after straining it because it dries the eye's surface.
