Either they go out or we all get out!

My landlord came by on a routine visit and noticed the animals had been in the house. He nicely and firmly reminded us that all animals were to be kept on the outside of the house and none were allowed inside. I guess I knew this, but I was just so happy to find a place that allowed animals at all that I guess I forgot about the conditions. This is so hard. I never see my youngest cat any more, maybe once a day. When I do see her she's causing havoc with all the neighborhood cats. The old cat is just too in-dignified by this whole outside thing and the dog won't stop barking. It brings me to tears...he don't understand and he just wants his spot by my bed back. What to do? The landlord made it clear that either they go out or we all get out. This is torture!

I have never rented where a landlord does a routine check. I honestly don't think you even have to let him in. A lot of rentals do allow cats more so than dogs. i agree I would either offer the landlord more money or move. I know moving isn't always easy.

Yes it took us a long time to find this place! The landlord had called ahead and made arrangements to come by. He was a check on pipes and maintaince around the place. I never thought twice about the molding. Thanks

oh ok..well at least he fixes things. I just moved out of an apt where you can call them slumlords that don't like to fix anything.

Sounds like you will either pay a bit extra and or eventually move out. Either way it appears you care for your pets very much so I am sure you will do the right thing. Unfortunately some landlords do not want pets and sadly when there are those like you who absolutely loves them end up with the landlords huffing. Best of luck and hope you can resolve this soon.

Hi devideddi! I feel bad for you. I would never be able to do that to my animals because they are my "babies". I have two cats and I would never put them outdoors no matter what! I know that alot of places don't take animals. Where I live they don't allow dogs, although some people have them anyway. I would keep looking for another place to live until I found one that did allow animals.

I guess this means you have a furnished property? Here, we can rent furnished, unfurnished and part furnished and to me, it's not my home unless it's furnished by me. Plus, any damage my Frodo does - it's just my stuff he's tearing up. If you can put up with bare boards for a while I'd suggest you kindly but firmly ask for your deposit back, take out a loan and visit a few second-hand furniture depositories, and find an unfurnished pad you and your pets can call home. They do exist, believe me. Find a landlord who's a pet lover, like you!

Its an unfurnished home. The cat scratched the molding on the door using it like a scratching post. We told landlord we would replace the molding. I do need to find a new place.

That is not good. I suggest that you better find another place in which you can freely keep your pets the way you want them to be. I know how hard this is for we had a similar experience many years back and the painful memory still haunts me like crazy, and which has made me vow that it will never happen again. I hate neglecting our loved pets or making them feel like we don't want them anymore. I really feel bad when certain things happen that make us change the way we take care of our pets. That is why in the place we are live now, we have to make little sacrifices, like suffer the small space of the house just so my pet dogs can have a big, big yard in which they can freely run and play around. We have chosen to live in this small house because of its big yard. I do not want to repeat the bad experience we had in the past which made us lose our pets for no reason. It still hurts to think about them.

you have a heart for animals like mine! I am sorry for what you had to go through, very sorry. Don't be so hard on yourself, I'm sure you did all you could do at the time. As for me, I won't let anything happen to these animals. (I've been sneaking them inside some and cleaning up real good) I wish more people were like this when it comes to animals.

Aw. Give your landlord a little bit of extra money maybe? Try to persuade him, show him how you'll clean up after your pets and always make sure the place is clean and tidy. Explain your situation and try to get him to sympathize with you. If he really doesn't relent, try looking for other places you can rent in your neighbourhood that are more pet-friendly. Best of luck to you ^^

I'm so sorry. I understand why the landlord doesn't want them in the house. There are so many pet owners and renters that don't care what their animals destroy. There are also lots of renters and pet owners that take care of where they live. Maybe your last place that you lived can give you a good word and also maybe you could pay an extra deposit in case something got messed up. Its worth looking into. Good luck, all my animals have always been inside critters. They can go out when they want but can stay in when they want too.

I would move. My pets are part of my family. Finding pet friendly rentals is somewhat difficult but they are out there. An extra deposit is usually required but that does not deter me as I just budget for it.

I think I might at least start looking...don't know if I could afford it though.
