Hey Mylotters.
I was in Manhatten about two weeks ago when I stopped to ask the traffic guard a question. I tapped the person's shoulder saying sir but when the person turned around and spoke I realized it was a girl!
she was so mad at me despite that i said sorry like 3 times.
anyhow now I'm wondering have you guys ever mistook a woman for a man?or a man for a women? Was the person angry?

I've mistaken a lot of women for men, but never men for women. One particular event had me making this mistake nearly ten times in one day. We were inspecting tickets for this concert in our university. The men and women had different gates to enter and part of our job was ushering the people to the proper line. We told a number of girls to go to the boys' line. It was a good thing none of them got mad at us.
Ever since I got my hair cut, people have been mistaking me for a guy, too. I never get mad though. I just laugh at them and correct them if they haven't already figured it out by the time I turn around to address them.

Well, my bangs/fringe is cut just long enough to cover my eyebrows, but not a severe straight cut but gets longer from left to right, but not appreciably so. It reaches the nape of my neck at the back. My sister and brother tell me I would be pretty good looking if I were a boy. XD
As for those girls, they were in pretty good moods to begin with since they were going to see some of their favorite singers in that night's concert.

I always do that in my mind because it is quite a common situation in Hong Kong but I have never called it out like what you did because I just want to avoid such an embarassing moment to occur. I think it is not your fault to have make a mistake like this. It should also be the person's own fault because they do not dress up in a proper way. I hope you understand what you mean.

Sometimes, yes but most of the time before I say something I will make sure who that person really is..There were some of them who did not mind about it while some will stared at you in confused while we will feel the same about him/her huh??. People always get confused about my nephew. They always thought that he is a girl while he only a cute boy.

ummm well here in my country , there a lot of gays who dress up like girls. sometimes i even mistake them as real women and there are even some who are very pretty hehehe.
there was one time my boyfriend and i saw this pretty girl. she was so sexy and just so pretty. but then after that when SHE talked, ohmigosh! the voice was even deeper and bigger than my boyfriend's voice
during college, when i was so stressed and so tired in school, i would sometimes call my male clinical instructor Miss, and female clinical instructor as Sir.
hehehe well you already said sorry, just forget about it. i know it must have hurt her but what can you do now, it's already done and it's not like you did it on purpose

There have been times it has happened, and it can be quite frustrating and disappointing but then there are the times you are not sure which they are even when they speak. All I can say is when it does happen, is feel a little embarrased at first, and then just apologize and move on, and hope they will forgive you. Since most of the time you will never see them again, or hope you don't in the end it was just a lesson to be learned.

I have done this a few times. They all got offended, but not really angry. I have been mistook for a guy before, which was really hilarious since I had makeup on, long hair, and I my voice is girly. I wasn't offended at all. I was wearing a hoodie and baggy pants and the man was real old, so I don't think he could really see very well. I actually saw the confusion on his face before he said that. He spent a few long seconds trying to decide before he guessed.

Yes this happens quite often. This woman got mad because I called her sir, but it wasn't my fault. I mean dress feminine. She had on baggy pants and the shirt was too big. All her hair was cut off and she expected me to know she was a woman but she looks exactly like a man. Then gone say to me Do it look like I have an Adams apple? I apologize but she kinds pissed me off so i told her its her own fault for not presenting herself like a woman. I mean if you don't want yourself to be called a man dress like a woman and if a man don't want to be called a woman stop dressing feminine. It happens everywhere. Honestly sometimes you just don't know.

Oh gosh this happened to my girl, friend one time. We were at a club and went to the ladies room. At which time I was behind the stall and she was in the next one beside me, when she said not loudly did you see that man. All of sudden the woman began to scream who the H you are talking about. I froze for a few minutes, kind of scared to come out of the stall. Then finally I did and my friend would not.
I told her I was apologizing for my friend, but that it was an honest mistake. The woman appeared like she was going to be beat up my friend, so I immediately went and got security and the woman was escorted out.
Whoa that was a few years ago, and my friend although it truly was an honest mistake because the woman appeared to look like a male, should not have said so out loud. However, I yelled at my friend because I told her why she had to be speaking out loud because if it were a man and he was in the ladies room, there had to be a reason to fear either way.
That has been the only time and although it was my friend I have learned to be careful. lol

I have before but I didn't talk to them. I was talking to my boyfriend so the person didn't know. I'd feel offended too if I was mistaken for a male and I'd be embarrassed for thinking the person was a male and turned out to be female but we're all humans- we make mistakes :P

hello,
Yeah, I also do that to a man but he is happy to called him a mam because he was a gay. ha ha, but i dont like to be rude so that i also say sorry. What happened to you is funny! maybe you explain to her why you misinterpret her being a man because her back is look like a man. (just joking)

yes I have mistaken a woman for a man several times. One that I remember was a security personnel that was a woman with short hair and the other was a store cashier. The latter was so funny because I already knew she was a girl but I don't know why I still said Kuya. I said sorry but I said kuya again when I talked to her. @_@

I haven't met a person who looks like a guy but is actually a girl nor did I met a person who looks just like a girl but is actually a guy. I've seen pictures, but not entirely met the person. But really... it'll be hilarious if I am to meet someone like that. Hahaha! Happy mylotting to all of you! :]

I have experienced being mistaken for a guy.
In college, I got this short boyish haircut. And I was walking along with my brothers and we meet two boys along the way. My brother overheard that one boy said to the other "Oh I thought she was a boy!". Oh I got a lot of teasing from my brothers.
Often we mistook a woman for a gay and a gay for a woman.
I remember we have a debate over a person who was beautiful but we were in doubt if the person was a woman or a gay person. For a woman mistaken for a gay, it could be quite heart breaking but for a gay person to be mistaken as a woman it could be quite flattering.
