We're All in This Together

A mouse looked through a crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife opening a package; what food might it contain? He was aghast to discover that it was a mouse trap! Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning, "There is a mouse trap in the house, there is a mouse trap in the house." The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, "Mr. Mouse, I can tell you this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me; I cannot be bothered by it." The mouse turned to the pig and told him, "There is a mouse trap in the house." "I am so very sorry Mr. Mouse," sympathized the pig, "but there is nothing I can do about it but pray; be assured that you are in my prayers." The mouse turned to the cow, who replied, "Like wow, Mr. Mouse, a mouse trap; am I in grave danger, Duh?" So the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected to face the farmer's mouse trap alone. That very night a sound was heard throughout the house, like the sound of a mouse trap catching its prey. The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see that it was a venomous snake whose tail the trap had caught. The snake bit the farmer's wife. The farmer rushed her to the hospital. She returned home with a fever. Now everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup's main ingredient. His wife's sickness continued so that friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig. The farmer's wife did not get well, in fact, she died, and so many people came for her funeral the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide meat for all of them to eat. So the next time you hear that someone is facing a problem and think that it does not concern you, remember that when the least of us is threatened, we are all at risk. Author Unknown I've been thinking about the divisions in our country today. And about the weather related disasters in the south last week. I wonder how we can all feel so differently about politics & religion and still come together when there is a need to help someone who is hurting. Americans are an opinionated bunch, but we care. So, I'm wondering if we can all put aside our pride and do something to save our country in 2012. It's vitally important that we do. What do you think? Can we?

Talking animals! Whatever next? haha Save your country from what? America is in much better shape than a lot of other places and still lead the world (until the Chinese take over), so I expect things to get better for all of us. We have just had a very expensive Royal Wedding and that is supposed to give us all a boost. Maybe you need something similar to put a smile on everyones face. :)

Now by extension apply that world-wide and your on to something, applying it only to Americans is still being the chicken, cow, etc. all the best urban

I obviously already do think of people in other countries Urban. What was on my mind when I wrote this is America. Is that so terrible? Check out my response to the first one to respond. I guess I just don't think of myself as a New World Order citizen yet. Don't worry, Obamba will re educate me soon.

Awesome story with a great lesson in unintended consequences. Yep, we can do something. Expose the frauds and enemies of our great country and encourage everyone to vote conservative... not just republican, because there are many liberals there, but absolutely conservative and who we know will follow the Constitution. Above all we must vote... everyone of us.

I think if things get bad enough, we can band together and do something in 2012. But there are many, many people who don't understand the concept of sacrifice--sure, they're willing to cut a state's entitlement budget but not their own. We absolutely have to have most people convinced that a little pain for a few years now will allow our country to survive later, that frugality is not cruelty. I'm not optimistic. Whole lifetimes of deeply felt opinions and convictions will have to be overcome on both sides.

I'm not very optimistic either. And for the same reasons.

I love this story. I think people all over the world should take the lesson from this. We are all involved . We should be sensitive enough to notice everyone. We should be concern on whats happening around us and to others.

Not only think about what the consequences for our own actions are, but who we support, who we listen to, who we ignore, who we make heros out of....it matters.

Interesting story, and Yes it does bring some light to everything. So many times people often think everything going on around them does not effect them, and everything is OK. Then bamm something happens in their life to make them have to change some things, and do things different and they wish that things could still be on the other foot. So in reality if we take time to enjoy what God has given us daily in time even in the Bad times, everything will be OK.

It's all about perspective. A door closes and another opens. Sorry it took me so long to respond, I've moved and am having trouble getting back online.

Good story. This can go for people in the same country or different countries on states or towns or neighborhoods and schools. This is good advice even for brother and sister. Good reminder for all of us.

First of all, thanks for the story. I never imagine that simple story can be used to motivate us to learn what empathy is. It's hard, in fact, to do something for others because we are not on their shoes. But, to listen to them, to see them, and to feel them, will at least help us understand their position and come to help them as long as we can do it. May this story inspires others.

We can feel what others feel. If we love them as God loves them. Without reservation or fear of loosing our pride.
