Hello Friends, recently I have opened my new SBI bank account and also got my ATM + DEBIT CARD . Now in respect to verify the paypal account I added my bank account. But now there is also a option of adding credit/debit card. And i want to do so. But the problem is whenever I am going to add the debit card details, the fields are coming for credit card. Like in debit card,I have to enter that the card id valid from _______ ? But there is no option of this in paypal, it is coming the card is valid till ______ ? (which is filled in case of credit card), but i have a debit card,so its creating a problem for me . Has anyone from india still added their debit card to paypal ? If yes how? If no, still do you know how to solve ?

Actually it is because the payment processor behind SBI's debit + ATM cards is Maestro (the red and blue intertwined circles at the bottom right on front side). Maestro is not approved by Paypal so you can't use it with paypal. Some of the private banks now offer visa and master card verified debit + ATM cards. Those cards can be used with paypal or otherwise the credit cards approved by visa, master card and American Express.

May be that's true. Indian Paypal does not allow Debit Card of any kind. I have tried to enter my Visa Debit card details, it will not accept. Only thing that works is credit card.

@raj_gupta, but as far as i know Maestro is a part of Master Card only, means it is backed up by MasterCard International. So if master card is approved by paypal, then why not maestro? And does it mean that I can only connect my bank account with paypal and not debit or credit card unless until i get it from VISA,MASTERCARD or AE ?

@zralte , so you must be withdrawing or verifying your account by your bank account only ?

Indian Paypal does not offer Debit Card Service. It does not matter what kind of Debit Card it is, Funding through Debit Card is not offered. Why do you want to put your Debit Card details anyway? You can verify easily with your Bank Account and withdraw it too. The only thing you will need to use Paypal for buying things online would be Credit Card. That is the only funding system that works. You cannot fund it with Bank Account.

Okay . But still i donot need to fund my paypal account. I just also wanted to verify with debit card. Now if it is not allowing , so no need to worry. I am verifying with my bank account and that will work. By the way, thanks for your reply !

I don't have a credit card ...so I have added my Debit card through SBI. I just followed the steps mentioned. I'm not sure if they changed it after March 1st. I did it a couple of weeks before that and it was quite easy. If you have any queries, you can write to Paypal. They have an option with a button for that. They will guide you through the process.

Though I didn't know it at the time, mine is a Visa card. Maybe that's why I didn't have issues.

Paypal accepts debit cards that only have either mastercard or visa logo's on it.It doesn't support maestro logo.SBI is having maestro logo. So,you can't link your SBI card to paypal. However, you said that you linked your bank account. So,it's ok.
