i used to have AVG and it was ok, now i tried ESET NOD32 but it seems to slow down my pc. i cant download a torrent movie and surf the net at the same time, it's that slow! i had a new internet connection and i changed my anti-virus software as well. i dont know what's causing my pc to slow down. the speed of my previous net connection and the current connection is just the same.
have you guys tried the anti-virus softwares that i have mentioned? how do you find them? and for you, what are the best anti-virus to use???

I agree. I have been using Avast too. Free and good enough. With Spybot S&D, makes it hard to beat.
Way to go.

I have used AVG antivirus software before and I liked it very much because it was efficient and it didn't slow down my computer at all. I would suggest that you stick to AVG because I have never heard of eset nod32. The name sounds weird to me. I think AVG should be sufficient for you so you should stick to it.

If you go for free antivirus, AVG is probably the best choice.
If you want to pay for it, choose Kaspersky, it is very strong and efficient against viruses and spyware.
ESET NOD32 is quite good too, it has not caused me problems for months, so I doubt this is the reason for your computer's low performance.

On my experience, Avira is the only one who satisfies the criteria of not slowing down the computer during its processes. AVG, Eset and several anti-virus software would eat up your resources during a scan or an update. I have been using Avira for several years now and not once have I experienced any latency on the computer. My first hand experience with AVG proves that Avira is lighter than AVG.

For your information, all antiviruses will slow down your pc to some extent. Not all antiviruses are made the same. Some are resource-hungry programs which will make your system crawl, while others have light footprints which provide little protection.
In my opinion, ESET NOD32 should only slow you down a little bit in contrast to AVG. I have used both and there's a 5-15% difference in system resource savings in favor of NOD32 while still providing top-notch protection from viruses available on the Internet.
With regard to downloading torrents and surfing the net at the same time, please check first if your torrent client allows you to limit upload and download bandwidth and if so, put a limit on your download and upload stream. Torrent downloads generally will use up all available bandwidth of your Internet connection and will leave you dry for Internet surfing due to the very nature of the bittorrent protocol.

I just posted a discussion of much the same thing. You may want to go to it and read the responses. Alot of positives on AVG. I haven't heard of this one you mentioned. It may be that it is large and takes up alot of room on your harddrive. That would slow down your computer. Do you do a regular maintenance on your PC?

To start with, downloading a torrent is a very high demanding activity, and a burden on every internet connection. The high speed and multiple and many simultaneous connections the torrents client typically do may clog your internet, specially the slower ones. But often don't cause much more troubles outside that, and the computer runs smoothly otherwise.
Now to the antivirus. AVG is crap. It's not that heavier and with a nice interface and everything, but when it comes to catch viruses, it often fails and let some viruses come though. NOD32 is not free to begin with, but I'm using it at work and it's not resource intensive at all, and may not give you great problems. Kaspersky is possibly THE best one, but it's quite demanding on CPU power and you may notice a significant slow down mainly on slow computers.
I haven't tested them, but you may try Avira or Avast.

I have already used both of them so i can relate to your post, i have tried AVG first and it was really ok, the only problem i encounter is that AVG detects and delete my games executable files as if they were virus, but they are not actually, as a result some of my game was unable to run, then i switched to ESET NOD32, this time i did not got any problem with my games... the only thing that bothers me is that ESET NOD32 or maybe any anti-virus software works in background and eats up my memory... that ekrn things on my task manager etc. now i use avira anti-virus, me and my computer are having a good time now. Avira was referred by my friend, and i recommend it too.
And now for you internet connection speed, what mbps are you using? cause right now i have 2000 mbps, and its really fast.

im using kasperky anti virus and it works fine to me..the only problem is it is also heavy and in scanning it tooks so long. But its nice to me my computer have no problem regarding the virus and trojans. But it depends to the PC performance.
ESET its light but there,s a problem in one of my friend. He is using ESET but sometimes the browser crash. If he tried to access facebook, the browser will crash and have some send error report.

Hmm isn't nod32 a paid antivirus? AVG is the best for the free ones and next is avast but i don't have any experience with avast.

NOD32 is a paid antivirus its is much better than avg and avast as both are free one
i have a friend who has NOD32 installed in his pc and he hasn't have a problem ever since
if you looking for a free antivirus then i would suggest avast its much better than avg and with many more features for free user too
i have tried AVG few years back but has not used it since years as i like avast very much

i have avira installed on my pc right now. and i didn't notice any problems with it. not that i have tried the other anti-virus softwares.
as for your download speed, there are several factors that could have an effect on it aside from your anti-virus. one is the size of the file, another is the traffic on the site. and another would be on the amount of free space on your system disk.
hope you could figure it out.
