Shockingly microsoft is consuming 20% of our bandwidth to make the performance of the system better, They use to consume it even when automatic updates are switched off,Isn't it shocking. There is a way to prevent them consuming our bandwidth.I found this in youtube and wrote an article about it.
Here you go for the tutorials to prevent it:
Youtube video tutorial:

Computersight.com pictorial tutorial:

Hope this info will be helpful to all
Happy mylotting.......!

It is incorrect to say that "Microsoft is consuming 20% of our bandwidth".
Windows limits your bandwidth to 80% of the theoretical maximum. It isn't used by Microsoft (or anyone else)!
Changing the setting might theoretically make your PC run a little faster but, in fact, you will very rarely use the full bandwidth available and will probably only see a noticeable - though minor - change in the smoothness of streaming video or audio and only if your bandwidth is marginally sufficient. If you have ample bandwidth for that kind of activity, changing the Windows default setting will have no noticeable effect.

You should read Microsoft's explanation of QoS and the reason for bandwidth limitation (essentially only applicable to slow connections) here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q316666

such a nice correction by a wise member of mylot in a novice member's discussion,I think i messed it up in the title isn't it, k any ways thanks for ur correction, But i do believe that it can increase your bandwidth to few more..!

I agree that it looks as though you might gain some speed but, in fact, you don't. You would need to run some carefully designed tests to prove it, though: just 'feeling that your PC is running better' is very subjective (and mostly imagination).

So what if they take 20% of my bandwidth?
Bandwidth wouldn't matter a dust to me if malicious entities would compromis my system. Isn't the security of my computer a world more important? I'd rather leave it to Microsoft and let them do their job with 20% of my bandwidth.

I whole heartidly agree with scrumpy. The antivirus does as it says. There are many ways someone can gain root access to your computer if they know what type of security that your running. This is why I also keep upto date with internet security. So if microsoft decide to set your bandwidth allocation to 80% I'm happy with that as the microsoft updates do indeed help out and filter out the unwanted pests.

krisnan235, i know AVG is quite effective even for just a free version, but take note that AVG is just an antivirus.
If I was a hacker, I could takeover your system easily knowing that all you have is an antivirus.
Antivirus systems, especially those that are free, cannot BLOCK malware and spyware attacks.
AVG doesn't even have FIREWALL protection.
I'll bet that AVG does not even tell you something like: "A connection attempt by an unknown port to your Port ### has been blocked! Your system is safe.."..
As long as you are connected to the web, there are more threats than virus alone.
