Keeping files in the recycle bin usually isn't a good idea if you believe you may need them again...I suggest you create a file to move the things you feel (today) that you may want to revisit then after a couple days go over them and delete those you won't need or don't want. Usually what you immediately think you will need again ends up never being used the second time. There is also the option of moving files to flash drives, which while can be a bit time consuming, would free up hard drive space and help keep the computer clean.
I dump my recycle bin when ever I remember it, probably not often enough, but then I have a large hard drive with lots of memory space so it doesn't matter too much.

Hi youless,
I used to think that way, but I just get tired of all the junk in my computer. So now I empty my recycle bin everyday. Heck even a few times in a day. When I delete something from my computer, I make sure to delete it too from the recycle bin, so that I won't use up my precious computer memory. lol. You see, the programs I use need a lot of space, that's why I'm very particular with keeping the computer junk-free.

If it's something like an excel or word documents, then I'll just keep it in a folder. I never really send file to the recycle bin, as when I'm positive that something is really useless, I'll just Shift + Del (permanent delete)

The bin in my computer--full of stuff I do not need (if 'I might need it later,' it does not go to the bin)--gets emptied by my cCleaner (a program that runs automatically every time I startup.)

it's not my computer, so I don't want my dad to get upset with me filling up his recycle bin with things that aren't his.

Hi youless, I don't bother much about my bin as the stuffs available there don't give any trouble yet. May be I don't have much rubbish in it. When my internet connection is interrupted I then go through all the stuffs available in my pc randomly to pass my monotonous time. Yeah, that is the time I would like to get rid of some of the rubbishes in the bin, but not to empty all of them completely, for some of them might be restored again.
I did resume songs and pictures which I had dumped in the bin for quite some time Experience tells me not to get the bin cleared totally since it doesn't affect the speed of the pc at all. More over I rarely visit my recycle bin.
Happy posting

I delete my spam folders right away. As for trash. I get to it about once a week. It is rare that I delete a needed mail but at least it goes to trash and not spam.

It is only recently when I was having trouble with my net speed I did it under instructions from my technician. I also ran the %temp% command to clear all my temp internet files, emptied the cookies, emptied history which did help increase the speed a bit.

I use CCleaner and I do clean out my cookies and cache 3 - 4 times a day. For which it includes the recycle bin as well. So as soon as I send something to the recycle bin is because I know I will not need it.
Reason why I use CCleaner is because it keeps my computer running fast and removes any unwanted cookies I do not need.
I use to be a heavy GPT user and the offers would only credit if I was a unique user and keeping the Cookies and Cache would not allow me to have the average 450 I use to get credited per month.
Therefore it is a habit for me to continue cleaning and I can always tell the difference when I do not clean them.
I guess it just depends on how careful one is, but usually I will not send something to recycle bin that I will need.

Hehe,my computer is a low end one,and the net speed is slow, too,so I empty the bin in the computer almost each time when I get online so that I can do what I want to do smoothly.Of course I don't put anything important into the bin,I can empty it without any hesitation.

I would empty recycling bin weekly or twice a month just to clean up my hard-drive. The ones that usually go in there: documents or files that are useless for me, files/software that I hardly use or don't really matter to me that much, things that I don't care anymore, or something along those lines.
For you, you should figure out which to keep and not to keep. It also depends on how you use your computer in general.

Hi youless,
I'm quite conscious of wasted space so I make sure I empty the recycle bin at least 2x a month. But you're correct about having deleted files that you need to recover. I've had some of those moments as well. One time, I even deleted a file only to find out that the file I did not delete was not the updated one . I panicked for a while but thankfully, there are available tools which can recover files if it's deleted recently. Now, I make sure that what I delete are those that I don't really need anymore. If in a week, I did not recover the files in the recycle bin, then it means that it's safe to delete these files already.

I used to empty it a lot more frequently than I do now. I think laziness got to me.
