I have been told by some people that one should not eat fruits after breakfast, lunch and dinner. I really wonder why this is so? because most of us have fruit or dessert after a meal . I have been eating fruits all through the day , after meals, at bedtime etc etc and whenever I feel like without having any after effects so far.
But seriously peaking is there a right time for eating fruits ? and if you think so what is the reason ? Please share your views ...

Hello Kiran, it is season of fruits many fruits available in these days. fruits are full of vitamins, minerals. For good health every one must be eat fruits. But it is not means that we eat whole day. I passed some time in naturopathy hospital. There when I was on fast, they give me 200gm fruits in the morning and 400gm. in afternoon and night. I think it is the right quantity if we are not eating any other food. In routine 100 to 200 gm fruit is enough. Fruits can be eat at every time but I suggest before meals.

Hi anil, I know that there is such a lot of choice regarding fruits now. Summer is the best season for fruits and see how nature has planned it.When the weather is hot we get plenty of natural things that keep us cool.By the way, I too had gone to jindal naturopathy clinic once for a week and thoroughly enjoyed it. I lost 2 kgs of weight, which I put back within 2 weeks again lol...thanks a lot and all the best

I did anil ! We were given a diet of diluted fruit juice, vegetable soup and raw vegetables and had to do exercise and also some other activities. The only solid meal was for breakfast when we were given 2-3 idlis or dosas with as little oil as possible...

Hello Kiran, it is surprising you lost 2kg in one week. I think it is not possible in naturopathy. They use some other therpy. I lived in a hospital of Rajasthan. They required at least two months for loosing weight, and fifteen days for a minor problem , I lived there 4 months.

Hi Kiran!
I think, do not bother too much about conflicting reports, you can have fruits, whenever you feel like eating them. If at all they are going to benefit our body system less due to time factor, fruits will not cause any harm to our body. Fruits like water melon should not be taken at night, I understand.

Hi deepak, I have fruit all the time whenever I feel like, but sometimes I have relatives and friends telling me not to eat so and so fruit at so and so time etc; they come up with so many explanations that I get confused lol...As you say it is best to eat when you want , and we are the best judge of our constitution and its limitations ...all the best

I've read a lot that fruit should be eaten on an empty stomach. But don't ask me to explain why...

It's because the fiber will help fill you up more then other food items so you will eat less on a whole as well as eating less empty calories.

Hi dawnald, thanks a lot for your response. I too have heard some people say that fruits should be eaten on an empty stomach, but as you say no valid reasons have been given..
Hi Olady, That makes sense , but that should be reason enough to encourage one to eat fruits - thanks a lot and happy mylotting

there was a reason, I just don't remember it, something about how fruit is digested....

Hi. kiran8. I am not sure, but when I usually have fruit it is when my stomach is empty. I don't have any other foods that is being digested into my stomach at the moment. Last night, I got a craving for a cold fruit and I ate two black plums on an empty stomach before going to sleep.

Hi cream, Thanks a lot for your response I too eat fruits and vegetable salad at night.I have been advised by many not to eat only fruits and raw vegetables at night , but they fail to give any reason that is convincing so I carry on since I have found it very beneficial for my health - all the best

Hello my friend kiran I miss you..about your habit of eating fruits, I envy. I like the way you do it..keep it up..there's no wrong of eating fruits as long as it is not too much at a time, i mean, everything that is too much is not advisable. Eat moderately wherever whenever you feel like to and no problem.
Yeah, as what I know which is the right way, eating fruits after each meal is not the proper way, the best way is before, so the nutrients of the fruits you eat can go in first to our system before we would eat whatever next...
That's what am always doing whenever I would eat meals (but of course if there are fruits)...
Enjoy eating "bat girl" (bat are fond of eating fruits)
(Just kidding...)
Mobhomeir here..

Hi mobhimeir, thanks a lot for your response ! I agree that we have to have a balance in everything we do in life including eating fruits - I have always eaten fruits after meals without any bad effects so far ! But I have heard many people say what you say, to eat fruits before a meal - all the best and have a nice weekend

I have also read conflicting reports about this Kiran. One important reason why they say that a fruit should not be taken along with a meal is because it contains more water content and is easily digestible. When this accompanies a meal it takes the time taken by the meal to get digested and assimilated in the system. It can also lose its natural properties.I find this valid.
However, some fruits taken on a totally empty stomach induces acidity and I have personally experienced this [depending on the quantity taken].]
I feel the best time would be some intermediary time say between a breakfast and a lunch or between a lunch and dinner[ late evening when people normally tend to have a go at deep fried snacks].
However , I also feel that the system of each person is different and if some habit suits a person, agrees with the system then that is best.Night time , however, is not advised because once again the logic here appeals to me. Anything gets absorbed better with a bit of physical work rather than sleeping.

Hi kala, yes what you say makes sense .It is absolutely true that people have to choose according to their constitution and their likes and dislikes. I have known some people eating only fruits at night . But fruits and vegetables are health food and s such one feels that they can be eaten at any time of the day or night - have a nice week ahead kala

There is a lot of Science out there about eating fruit. Some say by it's self others say with something. Like with eggs it seems always contradicting it's self. Pretty much unless you have diabetes or hypoglycemia (low blood sugars) I don't think you really need to watch out about when or how you eat fruit unless it is covered in doughs and sugars. Fruit has so many healthy points.

Hi Olady, I agree that fruit being natural food should be eaten whenever one feels like it.I too have heard many theories about eating fruits and often one contradicting the other.I guess we should eat fruits without actually planning it, going only by how our constitution and health permits .I know some people are not able to eat any kind of r fruits , they break into rashes or have an upset tummy ...all the best and enjoy your day

The right time to eat fruits is at a time that suits you. If one has had no complaints whatsoever following a particular schedule that should be the time when one should eat fruits. There are always bananas on the table and whenever I feel hungry I go for them. Citrus fruits do not agree with me and so I avoid them unless they are very sweet.

Hi allknowing , I too would agree with that view !I love citrus fruits a lot and a couple of variety of bananas only !My favorite fruits are Mangoes and melons...I know that some people have some allergic reactions to certain fruits, like my mother cannot eat Pine apple, she gets rashes all over her back and hands...Thanks a lot for sharing your views

As per my knowledge there is no harm in eating fruits after meals or breakfast. Recently I have read somewhere that eating fruits on empty stomach will provide extra energy and helps in loosineng weight.Ayurveda also supports this concept. So we can say that eat fruit whenever you want, but for better health and fitness eat them empty stomach,

Hi sunayana, Thanks a lot for your response ! I have seen that there are contradictions even in what Ayurveda says ! But personally I too feel the same way as you do, that fruits are very beneficial for heath and being natural food stuff can be eaten at any time .
