What if death is really the end of your existence.

Yesterday I read an article about Stephen Hawkins theory about death as the end of our existence. It got me thinking about the possibilities if what he mentioned is real. If someone or some article will convince you that death is the end of your existence, will it change you, will you be a different person if you'll be convinced on the belief of death as the end? As for me I think it would drastically change me as a person if I will be convince if there wouldn't be an afterlife.

That would be a load off, kind off- you mean I don't have to work mah' but off after I die, phew. But, then again you wouldn't be able to experience any good things. Pretty balanced out either way if you ask me.
None of this sort of thing bothers me though, just go with the flow :D

I read that, too.
My life would not change if I knew there was nothing beyond this life. I would still live as I do and have the same interests. I believe that we can do good for others and every decent thing we do radiates out to affect lives like the waves a pebble makes when you toss it in the water. In that way, we will never die as long as humanity lives because our actions can affect generations. Your picking up a piece of litter could save the life of a woman who gives birth to a great peacemaker, for example.
No, I would not change a thing if I knew there was no Heaven.

You should also read some Richard Dawkins.
There is likely no afterlife (at least not in the heaven/hell sense of it) and there is likely no God. So basically we have just this life on earth and since our minds are linked physically, chemically, and biologically to our bodies when our bodies die we die and cease to exist.

What a waste of life-experience that would be! Richard Dawkins and all the other scientists who think we only live ONCE are in for a very pleasant surprise when they pass and find themselves in The World of Spirit. I bet, because they are teachers, they will want to come back in spirit-form to tell us that they were wrong! That is exactly what a Spirit-visitor told our Open Circle one evening, after he had been so against the idea of an afterlife. He told us that he was so happy that he had been mistaken all through his Earth life!

If it is true, I guess I'll change too but I don't really know how. I mean, no afterlife most likely means no heaven and hell, right? I might change for the worse, actually. The only reason why I'm being good is my belief of God and heaven.

I don't want to think that way. It is somewhat a means to removing hope in life. If that would be my thinking, then I may end up being selfish and do things that would keep me happy. But that is not the meaning of life. We sacrifice, even our own happiness, so that in the end, in the afterlife... we will have better things or gifts compared to what we are experiencing right now. The difficulties we encounter right now is bearable because we have hopes.
As for your question, yes it will change me. But at this moment, I have a strong faith that there is something more after this physical life.
Live a beautiful life.

First of all, I'd like to be honest in saying that I did not read the posts before mine. Very honest huh.
Back to business. :) It doesn't really bother me whether I'll have a soul/spirit to still live after I say goodbye to the world. The most important thing for me is thinking about what's right now and living life to the fullest. Easier said than done (about the latter) but that's how we are supposed to handle our lives.

If there is no afterlife, what, then, is the purpose of your existence? What would be the motivation for doing anything except to satisfy one's personal desires?
