Tension is a very important cause of hypertension, especially of the idiopathic variety. If you are a patient of hypertension and visit any doctor, he will definitely advise you to reduce tension. But if you ask him how to reduce the tension, he will never be able to give any good and effective advice or to guide you properly to this effect. Can anyone suggest how to get rid of tension or at least how to reduce tension?

Hi! The best way to reduce tension is to watch comedy films. In other words, you should laugh. Studies show that laughter is good for your health. Gelotologists say that we're all better off with laughter in our lives. This simple motor reflex provides relief from daily pressures. Another way of reducing tension is to do a 30-minute brisk walking. We have to be effective in our time management so that we can get rid of ourselves of work stress, which leads to tension. Lastly, vitamin supplements such as ascorbic acid, may also reduce everyday tension and stress.

Yes, I also know that laughter is good for health. There have been now established a good number of laughter clubs in every big towns and cities and the feed backs I often receive are also pretty good. But I am sorry to say that I have not so far heard of any action of vitamin supplements such as ascorbic acid in this regard.

Hi, DoctorDidi! Yes there are researches that say vitamin supplements can effectively counter stress which is one of the causes of tension. These vitamin supplements contain anti oxidants. As I mentioned ascorbic acid or Vit. C helps to counter stress especially if combined with Vit. B complex and Vit. E. I just visit my doctor recently. I heard a patient with a hypertension. The doctor told him to eat moderately. That is the keyword! MODERATELY... You are what you eat. If you feel hungry then eat just the right amount of food. Lots of water will do.

In hypertension, control in food intake is a must because obesity is an aggravating factor for hypertension. But I am talking of tension that means mental tension.

One of my favorite ways of reducing tension is "meditation". My full time job really is very stressful at times, and by the time I get back home , I feel so tired and stressed. I would then sit down and practise meditation for an hour. That very much helps to be relaxed and to get rid of the stresses.

There is the Train Your Brain Method. First set a goal for when you will release the tension, then talk yourself through it, visualize being without the tension and finally bring your bringing down to a steady rythm. And, ofcourse, there is the resting in a dark room with soothing music. All of these help.

My parents had hypertension history, so i am really extras careful as not to get hypertension in my early age. What i do is, i tried to make sure that i don't over stress myself everyday. Whenever i am under stress, i will listen to music. Music makes me calm and stayed focus to my work without over-stress me. Besides that, i am trying my best to get enough sleep everyday, at least 6 - 8 hours per day.

Just let it go,let it flow. Accept the existence of an issue that is giving me tension and then..I concentrate on the solution and not on the issue. I might go to my corner for a while to cry, think or shout at the top of my lungs. But after a while, I think of good things more worthwhile my time.Anger is really a bold feeling and u just feel like breaking someones neck. But if I try a little harder to leave my mind off it and think that the number of wrinkles that might grow in my face...that is enough for me to slowly get over that tensed feeling and move on. It's not easy sometimes, but practice makes perfect. (^_^)

But too much tension may precipitate a hypertensive attack. How can I prevent it unless I can reduce tension?

Exercise, eat right, make it a point to sleep enough. The basics of good health will also help your body rid itself of excess tension. Learn a few simple acupressure techniques to relax critical points in your body and remember that mind and body work together, so meditation or prayer will relax you.

To relieve tension, you need to calm down. Undoubtedly you have learned that when you are feeling pressured you need to end your work and count to 10. This seems to norm, however, there is plenty of reality to this approach. Component in the reason why this method functions is the fact that, through stopping and counting, you're in fact slowing your inhaling and exhaling down. That is the vital thing in order to decrease tension. Through slowing your inhaling and exhaling down, you're relaxing yourself. Quickly, after a couple of instances, your stress levels may purely melt off. The methods to decrease tension with your physical body is much like maintaining your automobile. If you decide to don't maintain normal servicing, or deplete the tread of the wheels, you might chance harming or reducing the life span of the vehicle. The body functions similarly with tension. A powerful way to decrease tension during your entire day would be to create an agenda of your everyday routines. This does not have to get very comprehensive, however take the time the day before to be able to organize everything you will have forward next day.
