I have to admit, I am a bit of a shopaholic. I work hard and earn my money honestly, but I have no honest mind of saving it. I am trying to start a family and live happily with the man I love but I can't stop spending! Would you have any good suggestions that could encourage me to pull myself together please!

I also have a problem with saving. I figure if I work hard for my money I should be able to enjoy it. But I have realized that I buy things that I don't really need. Then when I really want or need something I can not afford it. So I started thinking before I bought something. Do I really want this? How many hours work is this? Most times I don't buy it after all.

I don't really go for things that I can't afford. I usually look at all the little things. For example, if I had ten dollars, I would go look in the dollar section at Target. It's ridiculous! I tell myself that I don't need them, but then think that I might want them later and that I'd regret not buying them. I'm like a hoarder but without all the junk. I just buy a bunch of stuff that I don't need and then either throw it away or give it to someone in the end.

I just responded to your other discussion about you getting an apartment. I think this would help you manage your finances better. To know that you have a steady rent to pay off, and a security deposit on top of that, might make you think twice before spending.
Specially if you consider that the other alternative is to be kicked out in the streets.

discipline. That is what you should practice, if you want to save, do not buy stuff that you do not think you will use or need. As someone with a family, i really find it important to have savings. If you don't have any, then think about it and start. It is not easy starting a family with problems financially, it is tougher and from what you describe yourself, you are someone who can splurge anytime..so do start savings and i believe it takes time but you will not regret it spazz.

Buying stuff for yourself isn't really bad. Buying an excess of those stuff is what makes it not good :) You just have to strengthen your willpower and try to resist the lure of shopping for things that you don't need at the moment. Ask your hubby to help you out as well as your friends. You have to tell them that you're trying to control your crave for shopping and for them to help you out like by stopping you when you feel the urge to buy something unnecessary :)

Nothing wrong with spending money and I think this is a problem lots of women have. You will just have to be stern with yourself and set aside an amount in a savings account that you can't easily withdraw from. Put away what you can afford each week or month and you will soon see it grow and you'll feel a sense of achievement in no time.
Good luck!
P.S. Your last sentence made me think of a joke....
Patient: Doctor, doctor, I feel like a pair of curtains.
Doctor: Pull yourself together!
Well, it made me laugh. lol
