So sad that they were overthrown by Facebook. they used to be THE social networking site just a few years ago. they tried to upgrade, add games and put up a wall also but people weren't interested anymore because all those are already available in Facebook. I feel sorry for the owners but at least they have already made a lot of money from it Another thing that's sad about it's closing down is that I cant take the pictures that I have on that site and I have no back up of them. Do you know how I can save those pictures?

I had a feeling this would happen sooner or later. I stopped going there for some time , but then again.... without Friendster , I wouldn't be able to Facebooking ... another site which I used to be frequent on is Multiply. Don't know what's happening to it but last I check , it is still around. R.I.P Friendster , you've been a good social networking site so far.

According to Wikipedia, Friendster will change its content from social networking to social entertainment, focusing on music and gaming. All user accounts will continue to exist, although other content posted by users (messages, photos, blogs, etc.) will be deleted.

It doesnt create as much noise as Friendster but yep Multiply is still kicking. I guess what keeps it alive is because of all the online shops created there. Multiply was the best platform for small-time online shops before Facebook came into the picture

Hello Ddaguno, It's really sad that things are not looking good for facebook. i just couldn't believe after all these years, friendsters is about to loose it's seat in teh social networking.time flies by and i think they made a mistake when they tried to compete it with facebook. they should have considered becoming more like MYLOT and Mypage5. they might have the chance to be more attractive.

Yep, it only shows that people appreciate original ideas. Their 'almost-gone' status also makes me think, If Facebook overthrown Friendster, then what can overthrow Facebook.

Personally, I've stopped using that site like two years ago. Facebook is better and by the time that Friendster upgraded, everybody was into Facebook already. My friend told me about it because she told me to save my pictures. I have wondered about the same thing since you can't save or download the photos in there. Luckily, I mostly have copies of my pictures there in my Multiply site.

Lucky you. I lost all my back ups in a huge storm more than a year ago. I hope the suggestions the others gave would work.

Yes, it is really a very sad thing that Friendster will close down this end of May. It's just around the corner. About the pictures. There is an application in Friendster that allows you to export all your pictures and albums to either Flickr or Multiply. It depends on your choice. I think it is the Friendster exporter tool. Try to find it in Friendster. I have already exported my pictures to Flickr. However, the problem about I had with it is that Flickr has a maximum capacity of 200 photos for the free account members. I had to delete some of the photos in order to maintain the maximum allowed.

too bad flickr is blocked in the UAE. For what reason? I don't know. the govt just dont want that site here. But i'll search for that extract option and try to transfer to Multiply. Great tip. I hope it works!

the only thing that a Friendster can be the best to Facebook is to have a mini video chat on their main page.... without permission you can instantly view who's online...
@ddaguno (3107)

That'll be good but it probably require some expensive software. so it will be like facebook plus skype in one?

true, that you can instantly view who's online video without asking permission just like facebook that you can immediately send a message unto who's online....

Yes. It's very sad that only days to go and they have to close down Friendster so that the new reinvention can come through. What I was saddened about when it comes to the reinvention of Friendster is that all the testimonials cannot be revived. All my testimonials are real treasures because friends and family have placed so much effort in writing something about you. I just hope that the next time Friendster resurfaces, they will still allow users to give a testimonial. It will be so much fun and brings warmth to your heart and soul.

i probably wont use Friendster anymore even after they come back. Most of my friends are now on Facebook. But who knows, they may come up with something really cool that will make their users come back

Can't you download it from the site? If it's closing down, meaning it is still is up and running, right? Download it before it closes down.

dear friend, Open the site now and grab those pictures. I am not sure how does Friendster works,if you can downloads the photos that you've uploaded there or not. Now,if the site won't allow you to download or grab those photos, the least you can do is do it thru "printscreen"

I have heard of Friendster but have to admit that I never used and or signed up to the site. This is sad for you and so many who have used it. Sorry to hear of this, maybe all will join facebook and or here where you can interact routinely. I was also going to suggest screenshots and or how about photobucket to upload via html. Best of luck and sorry about the site closing.

Aw, man, that sucks. :( Friendster was memorable for me as it had bits of my high school experiences. It's so sad they're closing down! I can't believe it. I know, Facebook did overthrow them. But I guess they should have seen that coming, huh? I think you can't download them anymore, too. I've tried and it didn't give me the opportunity to do so! Maybe you can try taking screen shots?

It's a shame, really. I don't think Facebook is THAT great. I'm mainly there because my friends and family are...
