The world is going to end! This is creating fear.

Hey, the world is going to end in 2012. Jesus is going to come. God will judge and will separate and place some in heaven and some in hell.
This drama has been repeated for 2000 years. I wonder how people are not getting tired of the same drama.
It is amazing how people cannot see through the tricks of the priesthood. The world has not ended all these years and the religious authorities go on giving new dates.
Their aim is only to create more and more fear in people's minds. Now the world is going to end and the Lord will come. So, repent of your sins.
They want create more and more fear because those who are afraid will not question the beliefs. They do not wnat us to be courageous, because courage will questions. Courage will see right through the tricks and masks. They do not want us to be true to who we really are. If al of us become our own self, then who will bow to the religion authorities? Who will pay money to them? How would they control anybody?

The reason that many people think the world is going to end in 2012 is because the 'Mayan Calender' ran out on the specific date. Mayan's have also apparently foresighted every solar event in the last 20,000 years, I believe this is false as the world as I believe is a maximum of 10,000 years old.
The next thing. How can people possibly think that someone knows the exact day the world is going to end? Isn't that ridiculous? Harold Camping has been proven wrong twice and will be again. In the bible, it says that no one knows the time or hour that Jesus will return, that it will happen when we are sleeping (metaphor: when we don't expect it). I also hope you're not attacking Christians saying that we believe in this? What you said is not the case, they didn't 'make-up'
a date to put people in fear - a couple of scientists were studying the Mayan calendar and happened to notice that it stopped at some point in time, therefore just called it 'the end of the world' as the Mayans thought anyway.
So you're wrong, it's not a religious idea. Christian's are against it.
Hope this clarifies things a bit :)

Well yes, it will change - but eventually it will end. The know history of the earth is little over 6,000 years old. The pyramids were built around 2500 BC, give or take, making them approximately between 4000 - 5000 years old. I'm not sure where you got your source from but I'd like to know.
On another note, do you believe that something is going to take place on the specific date set in 2012? A cataclysmic event of some sort? What is your reasoning? I'm interested in what you have to say, why you believe so :)

10,000 years old.
BlackAmaranth IS wrong about age of the pyramids, but still . . .

The world isn't going to end. Will just change. And will start in 2012. And how could it be 10000 years old whaen the piramids have more than 15000?

Very true, and of course we end up being more sorry than safe afterwards. I completely agree with you about the similarities between religion and war when it comes to fear-mongering.

And I guess that's why we often fight wars in the name of religion. We get confused and start thinking that our brothers are enemies.

I think there can be a number of contributory factors to wars. Having a large proportion of young men in your population is thought to be a major one. However, I think the main thing is one group insisting on something that another group thinks unacceptable. Often it's laying claim to some resource, which may be religious (as was the case with the crusades) but could just be territory.
I think nearly everybody would prefer not to have wars. However, if somebody finds something that you insist on to be unacceptable or insists on doing something you think is unacceptable (perhaps they think it's unacceptable for you to exercise free speech by criticizing their religion or insist that everybody follows their religion which requires women to be second class citizens and wear burkas), are you going to give into them or fight them?

Hi Gratopetalum,
So this time he will be a fighting warrior as per your interpretation of the Holy Bible. But what about your
personal thinking what is going to really happen. Have
you ever thought about it for yourself? For example the
new heaven and a new earth and after the meek (Jesus and
Moses and some others) inherit the existing earth what will
they do with it?
Think, think, for yourself and tell me your findings.
Regards,
efc

Adam and Eve were meek. What they needed from God, they asked for. But they made a mistake and went to the tree. That tree made us want to be like God. In this strange, mysterious, and dangerous universe, we now think we can survive it without a god. We are now the gods. Think for ourselves. So we have earthquakes, tornados, etc. and people still die. Apparently we are a long way from being gods. God made the Garden of Eden for a reason. All we have to do is depend on Him. So the world will end and those who depend on Him and follow His commandments through Jesus Christ will live on.

According to the Bible, Jesus will return to fight the anti-Christ at the Battle of Armageddon and then reign on Earth for 1000 years before the end of the world. However the meek (Jesus and Moses and some others?) will inherit the earth and there will be a new heaven and a new earth.

In the Bible, it says that Only God knows when it will happen. The Angels in heaven does not know when the end will happen. Let us just have faith and believe what the Bible says. God will come when we least expect it. He will come like a theif at night. No stupid thief will announce when they will come. No other people can tell other people when a thief will also come to a house to steal. What we can do is just wait and also be ready.

God isn't the only one that knows. Many entities around the universe came to see the big event, a premiere in this universe.
About how it will happen: it will stard on 21.12.2012 and will end in march 2013. Don't know what will happen, but in this period more than 3/4 of earth's population will die. And will go on the new earth and will start all over, while the ones that will remain will live in a new reborn world free of wars.

The world will eventually end...all worlds end. All suns die. That is the way of the solar system. Any day we could be hit by an asteroid or comet and be wiped out. Don't be foolish. We are very fragile. The earth has been hit many times and all forms of life have been wiped out before. It can and will happen again. It just will not be an armageddon ending and the minor christian god christ will not come and save the "believers" and there is no such thing as a 'rapture'. If you are here, you are fried.

Adoniah, how do you know that the Biblical version of the end of world isn't correct? I know Christians, and some others, argue about the details, some believe in a rapture and some don't or have the rapture at different times etc.. However all real, knowledgeable Christians agree that Jesus will return and have a big battle with the anti-Christ.

besides, faith has nothing to do with fear. It is an inate feeling do do right by oneself and to find our higher purpose in life. Anyone who uses fear to promote religion or any type of following is a tyrant, not a religeous leader. Faith is what is needed for religion, not money, fear, or standing. People worry about the purity of their faith because it brings them closer to god. I feel bad that you think of fear alongside religion. I pray you find your faith and find peace

I agree these doomsday predictions are the handiwork of tricksters and con artists out to exploit fear of gullible folks in order to make big bucks. Time and again these doomsday predictions have been proven wrong but this does not in anyway stop these tricksters for making such dreadful forecasts again as it is a lucrative business for them.
I think concerned authorities should ensure such antisocial elements are discouraged and punished severely. Moreover, common man needs to be educated on these issues so that he can control his irrational fears and not fall prey to tricksters evil designs.

Unfortunately I see some problems with your idea of punishing doomsday predictors (although it is Biblical). What exactly would qualify? A religious leader saying that the end is near but not given an exact date? An astronomer claiming that an asteroid is likely to hit the earth? A doctor saying that a certain virus could cause a deadly pandemic? A novelist writing a book about the world being destroyed? You could end up banning the Bible or preventing people from warning of genuine threats.

Yes, my friend there have been predictions in every century that the world will end. Well, so far it is still here. I take issue with a lot of your other statements though. You are maligning the "priesthood". As far as I know the priests and pastors, rabbis, imams of mainstream religions do not predict the end of the world. It is always extreme individuals or groups or extreme sects. Do not underestimate the intelligence of the majority of the people either. The majority of people usually does not pay attention to those predictions. It is lost, insecure troubled people who flock to those doomsday preachers who will usually relieve them of their money. People of mainstream religions support their religion because their faith tells them to not fear.

We are getting interpretations of the writings of an ancient people of whom we really know very little. They do not have an alpha bet, they use pictures. We have to interpret these pictures which do not just tell a story, they also invoke emotions in their meanings. How do we interpret these word, pictures and emotions and come up with a reliable interpretation? We don't. We simply try for the word part....Big empty holes are left in the interpretations. We will never have the true story until 2012 gets here...lol

The people who wrote the Bible did have an alphabet. I think they Mayans did also, that's what the pictures were, rather more like ancient Egyptian or Chinese than the Hebrew and Greek alphabets of the Bible. I know the Bible is open to interpretation and I've heard this is also true of the Mayan calendar but I don't know as much about the latter.

The predictions of the ancient peoples do not actually say that the world is going to end. They just predict a drastic change. It could be a polar shift...this year the sun came up two days early in the arctic...This marks a drastic change in the poles. Scientists have been mapping mini magnetic poles all over the earth in recent years.
Tectonic plates seem to be moving more lately which cause bigger stronger earthquakes, everywhere. These earthquakes in turn cause tsunamis. Much more destruction is then possible.
We are also heading for an 11 and 1300 year convergence of Solar Sun Flare cycles. The 11 year cycles are bad enough, but when two cycles converge it should be be really interesting. These two cycles have never converged in man's history. Solar Flares can knock out all modern conveniences. Multiply this by who knows how many times and it will get real interesting.
None of these things are man-made and none of them can be controlled by man. We will just be along for the ride.
One thing that is true is, It is not armageddon. The christian minor christ god has nothing to do with it as it is just nature. No Messiah, not even the True Messiah is coming. It is just the earth going through growing or dieing pains.

Hi. Frederick42. I don't believe in any of Harold Camp's or other false prophets false predictions. I only believe in nothing but the Bible. Everything that Harold and other false prophets have predicted thus far has never came to pass and it never will. God has all of the cards in his hands, and as Christians we are to live by the Word, his Word. Nothing else, nothing less. The world will not end in 2012. God already knows how things will take place. Man can come up with solutions, thesis, examinations, hypothesis, predictions, and calculations, but God is the only person that is on complete control. I just wished that Harold and all of the other false prophets out there will learn to realize this.

Indeed! History repeats itself. It's hard to understand why people still believe the same prediction.
The scriptures says " even the angels, nor the Son of God knows the end of time, only the Father in heaven".

valleyofberaca, I think there are several reasons why people still believe in such predictions. It's got to happen some time. The last couple of centuries have been unlike anything that's come before and it should be obvious to everybody that there are going to be huge changes in the near future - either a disaster that will at least end civilization and stop technological advancement if not wipe out mankind, or we will have androids filling the streets, cheap space travel, nanites making us nearly indestructible, Islam taking over the world etc.. Some people are stupid, mad or ignorant.

Yes these claims of a judgement day is aimed to instilling fear and guilt to all people. And unfortunately many still fall in this trap, this big lie...First of all there will be no judgement day, for no one has the right to judge another person but himself alone. There is no heaven and hell, its a big lie to keep people in fear and beLIEve in a certain religion. You are right, we should all become our own self, or if i will put it, go within yourself and know thyself...

goldenPlanet, how do you know there will be no Judgement Day and there is no heaven or hell? You shouldn't go round making such claims if you can't prove them or at least give good supporting evidence.
You are right that nobody has a right to judge another (but what about when you're on a jury or hiring somebody to work for you or looking for a spouse etc.?) but at Judgement Day (according to the Bible) God will judge us.

There is no hell in the earth's core and there is no heaven above the clouds. Plus it is those who claim there is a heaven and hell to prove it. Some one can claim you are something you are not and you say you aren't what they accuse you of. Who has to prove it? You or the other person?

It only creates fear in people who do not know God's word, the Holy Scriptures.
The literal earth is to be permanate. Ec.1:4; Ps.104:5.
The end is likened to the flood of Noah's day. Only the wicked were destroyed not the earth. 2Pe.3:5-7; Ge.7:23.
Wicked destroyed but a great crowd survive. 2Th.1:6-9; Re.7:9,14.
Only the wicked have a need to fear.

I think you're being unfair to "the priesthood". What do you even mean by this? Roman Catholic priests, Buddhist priests, Anglican priests, the Aaronic priesthood, Jehovah's Witness priests, Mayan priests (are there any?)? It's usually some fringe group that pulls this sort of thing, you shouldn't go lumping all priests together. You're also rather confusing 2012 with the Biblical Apocalypse.
I think people "keep falling for it" for a number of reasons.
It's got to happen some time.
There are a number of things that seem to suggest the end, or at least a big change, is coming soon. Some people think that God works in round numbers so the end will come about the year 2000. I suppose it could be 2000 years past the crucifixion so look for more hysteria around 2030. The Bible prophecies that Israel will be restored before the end, that happened in 1948. Also a new Temple needs to be built so the anti-Christ can desecrate it, this is being planned. All nations need to gang up against Israel, well look at the Muslim countries and all the inexplicable sympathy to Islam in the West. Then there are some things that have nothing to do with Christianity, like the Mayan calendar, I think Nostradamous (OK, he was a Christian convert from Judaism) says something about an apocalypse around 2000. Buddhism says that a sign of the end of the world will be men walking on the moon, hasn't happened for a few decades but probably will again soon. Then the signs of the zodiac have moved round a month since they were worked out and some people claim that this will mean an end to age of Christianity (Christians say that this proves that astrology is bunkum). It is kind of odd that all these things are rather coming at once though.
Then of course we're living in times unlike anything that ever came before: aircraft, antibiotics, the internet, the rise of Islam and China (probably likely to cause a huge war soon), nuclear weapons, genetic engineering and nanotechnology starting to step onto the stage. There are probably a whole bunch of other things I didn't think to mention and some things I (and perhaps everybody else) don't know about. I don't think anybody in their right minds believes that things can go on much longer without some huge changes.
Of course we're all going to die sometime, probably before the end of the world. We don't know when we're going to die although we may have some strong suspicions, perhaps with good reason. You might have a freak heart attack or get killed by a falling space station toilet or blown up by terrorist in the next few minutes. You might make a miraculous recovery from that fatal disease or get that last minute phone call from the governor. I suspect that many people alive today will have their lives extended a great deal by nanotechnology. This is annoying because while you'd like to make the best of what could be your last day, you're probably sill going to need friends, money, a home etc. and would rather not be in prison or hospital tomorrow so we're probably not going to live this day like it's our last. Perhaps some people would just like to have the last day blowout and that's why they believe end of the world claims.

It is also a business, just take a look to how many people wrote books about this, another thing to keep in mind is that, there's a very wide category of things that can be used to make claims of this type, you just have to make a simple calculation of the maya calendar, and the sequence of numbers of the dates will end in the combination of 2012, a pure coincidence.

Everyone has different views on this subject. For one because some believe in God and some don't. I don't judge people, but I believe in him.He is the one who created this world, heaven, and hell, with everything in it. Just because some man said the world is going to end, doesn't make it true. Either there will be a judgement day or their may not be.

I have read some of your other posts and notice your are quick to judge religion without apparently knowing much about it. People who arent religeous fear 2012 as the end of the world. People of faith who read and learn what the bible teaches us about the return of christ have learned of signs in which to look for his coming. We see certain signs, but we are still a ways off before the second coming. 2012 is just the end of the mayan calader. No one actually knows what is going to happen if anything. If you want to judge people based on your own unfounded beliefs about other peoples faith, you need to read up on your theology and understand what you are talking about
