Who and why did you start playing World Of Warcraft?

When i first started playing world of warcraft i signed up with a my best friend, we had both watched the South park episode "make love not warcraft" and despite south park's mockery of it, we still thought it looked like an interesting game.
So that is why i signed up to play wow :).
My question is: Did you start playing with friends/family and what made you start to play?

I started playing WoW because my boss wanted us to learn the game. I stopped even after the WOTLK release because the game is very expensive to maintain. I started playing it with co-workers, friends I shall say they are to me. We were in the same server and was playing even during office hours. It was a very fun game for me, sadly I can't pay for the monthly subscription and the expansions as well, I have to stop.

ah it is a shame that you cannot afford the monthly subscriptions and expansions, i know it does add up to quite alot!- Luckily i have a parent pay for mine muhaha the pleasures of being young!.
That is very cool that your boss played it and wanted to get everyone at work playing it, i bet the profits from your department dropped in that month haha!.
all jokes aside it does sound like a really fun and relaxed working enviroment, and i beileve that is one of the great things about world of warcraft, the huge social aspect really brings people together; i have found that people that i wouldnt get on with in real life, i actually enjoy their company alot more on wow.

Also keep looking in this interest for more discussions based on wow, even if you dont not play wow anymore, i know sometimes people stop playing but still enjoy reading/watching videos on a game!

I do always look forward to responding to WoW discussions here, that's if I can still relate. Years of being inactive does make my brain dull about this game. Haven't read much these days since I am very busy. good you have your parents to support you with this game, financially that is. Sales was high already those days that was why our boss gave us a free vanilla key so we can all start playing. Really enjoyed it, me and my co-workers were much closer in-game actually than in real life. Sure will let you know if ever I could come back in the world of azeroth

I did start playing with a friend of mine. It was a good way of sending time together. I ended up with a high lvl 80 healer druid before my account got stolen and I haven't played it since.

my husband, now stbx, played it first
he liked it and invited me to join
I did but along the way I don't like it anymore
it's not the game, it's the people we've met
we could've switched to different realms but at the same time life took a toll on us
so we just stopped playing altogether
this was 2008 - 2009 if I remember correctly
I don't miss the game. but I like the musics and lores.

I started to play because my boyfriend was playing and he was talking about it all the time. At first I was kind of annoyed cause he was playing often and he was telling me some stuff like I was supposed to know it. I was angry cause I was clueless. So I just started playing and now we've been playing together for 4 years. I play more often than him though. :) Well he plays LoL more than me so I guess it compensates. :P

I started playing WOW because I wanted to try out this game.
It have been on the market for a long time and still, players and statistics are giving positive feedback.
However, I did not play on WOW's battlenet server, instead, I played on a private server called Molten. It's quite a champ in the WOW private server. Stable connection speed, highly maintain. Best of all it that it provided a variety of choice towards servers. Some are in insane rate, one a in Blizz-like x1 rate, one are only for PVP only(everyone reach LV80 after created a character).
I can't say I'd started playing the game with anyone though.
P.S.: The gameplay's good, much better, only problem is that I am quite addicted to it's Battleground, and never had enough time for the original storyline.

I first heard of WoW from a friend. I had never heard of it before he told me what it was. He practically forrced me to buy the game. After i played it for a bit, i got addicted. I just stoped playing recently, after 6 years of the addiction. damn what an amazing game.

I started because a friend heard it was going to be fun - we'd played EverQuest together (I was in that one for about 5 years) and both enjoyed the Warcraft games before WoW.
Since I as writing content for a gaming site at the time, I got into the WoW closed beta (i.e. before it was released) on US servers. I played 'til about 2 years ago, then couldn't afford it any more so sold the account (oooh, naughty).
After 6 months or so, things were better so I rejoined on EU servers where I've been ever since. I may stop soon, since it's lost the appeal after so long in the game. We'll see.

I started playing 2 years ago with my ex-husband. I started playing cause it looked fun. Haven't been able to play in two months due not having a computer that can handle WoW since Cata came out.

i start playing world of warcraft with my brother and the owner of a computer shop.. when i see wow as my first time for online games, my interest didn't get in. but when the owner said to me why don't you try?.. it has free trial and i will give you free 2 hrs playing.. and then i become addict on it till now.. Then i discover that i can make money on it, so i make a many accounts that have already good gear.

I actually started wit my friend as well, and it was after i saw a review on it on the G4 channel that i started to play wow. I was a newb and started with a human warrior xD lol
