While listening to a radio program, the announcer asked her listeners if anyone can still remembers when was barbie doll introduced to the market.Barbie became the favorite doll of most young girls all over the world.Maybe your mother or grandmother have one or a collection before.Up to the present I guess it's still the number one doll preferred mostly by young girls and even teenagers. One listener answered 1959 was the year it was born. This is for women members but I guess there are men who also have likings for dolls.Do you still have your barbie or you kept it in the cabinet so that you can pass it to your children or grandchildren.A girlie talk maybe...

Yes, it was introduced in 1959 by Mattel inspired from a German doll called Bild Lilli. So your Mother have Barbie doll too when she was young and kept it when she grew up and pass to you.Your Mother may have loved the doll because she kept it for you to enjoy the doll too. Thanks for your time my friend.

The Barbie doll was first introduced in March 1959 (so that listener was correct). Barbie was, however, inspired by a German doll called Bild Lilli, produced from 1950 to 1964. The history of the 'fashion doll' goes back to the 19th Century but, whereas the 19th Century dolls were very expensive and available only to the more affluent classes, Bild Lilli and Barbie were designed to be mass produced and available to every little girl. Here is information on: Barbie: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbie Bild Lilli: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bild_Lilli_doll and the Fashion Doll: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fashion_doll Barbie was accompanied by 'Ken' (a male fashion doll but still for the female market) at a later date and similar dolls, in a military and sporting vein, such as Action Man, were produced for boys. My children had their Barbies and Action Men. I think my son still has his 'Eagle Eyes' Action Man somewhere but the girls' Barbies are lost, I believe. I remember digging up a Barbie head in the garden once!

Good day owlwings, Thanks for the detailed information you have given. So the listener was right about the year.Yeah, the creation of Barbie was inspired by a German doll Bild Lilli and up to the present it is loved by young girls and not to mention too the male counterpart of Barbie which is Ken and the next is history as more dolls are introduced which targeted the boys, as you have said Action Man.I'm not so familiar with this doll because we have none during our teen years. Thanks again my friend for the time..

I do remember when the Barbie Doll was first introduced. I was just a kid. I asked for one for my birthday or Christmas but never did get one. We did well to have food on the table so the price of the Barbie was too high. I did eventually get one of the first 'walking dolls' but not a Barbie.

welcome to mylot Nitu27 My daughters loved Barbie dolls too, but now that they are all grown up, they just gave aways their dolls to younger girls who would now enjoy playing with them.
