I just found out that my dog has heartworms

I have a 7 year old bulldog mix. He has such an awesome personality and is a great dog. Last week he started acting like he was not feeling good and over the weekend, stopped eating. I was very concerned because normally he is full of energy and love for life. When the vet told me yesterday that he has heartworms, my heart broke. It took everything I had not to burst into tears in the vet's office. The doctor said it is treatable but the treatment costs $1000. I am not in a position to pay that kind of money even if it is on a payment plan. I don't know what to do. Does anyone have any advice or similar situations?

Any pet is like part of the family. I have a cat and hamster so I know the love you feel for them. You should phone around and check the different prices. You may also be able to compare them on the Internet. Talk to friends and family about it and see if they can help. Or why not set up a page on the Internet asking people for donations. There should be some sort of help if you are on a low wage.

Try another Vet that maybe Less Expensive to Treat the Heart Worm. Maybe a Pet Clinic. If You can't Find a Cheaper Vet or Hospital for Your Budget. Maybe Give Up the Dog to Somebody who can Afford the Vet's Bill. But don't wait to Long. Maybe Look On Line for some Help or Advice.

I know what you mean. It sadness, the dog is like part of the family. I have three because I can't have kids. You, probably need to call around and see the different prices in treatment, not all vets have the same cost, well a least in Texas they don't. When you do find one, call or go get the dog's medical/vet records from your old vet, and tell them that you are switching vets. That they are good but the prices are in your budget not even the payment plan, the former vet may (IDK)might lower the price so he don't lose your business. Just find one that loves animals, and not the money.

I'm sorry to hear about that. I had cried so much for the loss of a pet too... Maybe you can ask some help from your friends or family memebers who love your pet too... Look for free veterinarians online too, maybe you can find someone.
